I had the same reaction as Josh at the KAT not playing Center comment lol. I agreed immediately that it was a dumb comment, then quickly had the realization that this is Thibs coaching this team so who the hell knows? lol
When Mitchell Robinson comes back Towns could play some PF but generally I think he will be the center.
Lose lose trade. I think both Kat and Randle are devastated
Yeah impossible to know for sure but I'd imagine both locker rooms took a huge hit (but more so Minnesota's)
From a basketball standpoint, I like this trade for New York a lot more though
oh 100%, from a basketball standpoint i love it for new york (idk about contractually) but the fit is much better. i do not like the spacing of Randle/Gobert at all. I guess if we take into account payroll, Minnesota gains a lot more flexibility in the future for maybe the short term loss. but at the same time tho, Knicks lost Donte so both teams chemistry got compromised..

i think the fact they got an above average big man who can space instead of going into the season with jericho sims starting at center is big for them, also the knicks have elite perimeter and wing defenders in OG and Mikal so i think they can mitigate Kats liabilities, i agree with you tho, i also hate Kats contract. I honestly hate this trade for both teams, i wanted to see Minnesota run it back.

Have you run any projections on Towns already? In 2021-22 he was #9 (8cat). Looking at the guys who in 23-24 were 8,9,10th+ etc its actually not that hard to see Towns being top 10 again. Although I understand its best to be cautious.

Hart is a pretty darn good rebounder for the Knicks and for his position. He averaged over 8 a game last season.

There is slight possibility in my opinion for Donte to be the starting small forward for Minnesota and Jaden coming off the bench

I don’t think Donte is losing value at all. He’s better than all of the bench players he’s matched against, he’s now their best shooter, and Donte will be their 4th best perimeter defender
The third team is the Hornets (they got Daquan Jeffries) if I’m not mistaken

Then you replied and referred to BRUNSON being more ball dominant than KAT basically saying the situation is actually worse for KAT since BRUNSON demands the ball more than ANT. I’m saying that’s irrelevant because that wasn’t the problem, KAT is in a better situation because he can play the center role (his natural position) and isn’t playing next to a big man in GOBERT who is taking all of his blocks and rebounds and overall touches in the paint. Hence why I mentioned it doesn’t matter if BRUNSON is more ball dominant because KAT will now be the main center which means getting all his stats back regardless if BRUNSON demands the ball more than ANT.

The Knicks were big movers in the offseason. All we heard this summer was Lakers Lakers Lakers Lakers. We'll have to wait and see if purchasing Los Angeles hype is more helpful then spending cash on the Lakers roster.
I think Naz Reid is a winner here. With Kat gone I think Naz's minutes will go up. I don't think Randle/Gobert is a good fit plus Randle has been injury prone the past few years. I can see Naz's minutes go up to 28 a night.

Respectfully mate I couldn't disagree more with the Donte take. After KAT I see him as the biggest winner here and absolutely sky rockets in 6MOTY candidacy. Expecting close to 30 mins a night out of him now and I can see lineups where he replaces Conley a bunch and Reid replaces Gobert for a incredibly mobile, floor spacing, defensive minded lineup. Just my 2c mate. Love your content as always

Imagine if KAT doesn’t play center though that would suck so much for people who are going to draft him. What if Mitchell Robinson does come back in Dec/Jan and they try to start them together? Then it’ll be the Timberwolves situation all over again….this sounds kinda risky
I think Robinson is kinda cooked
they made this move specifically to address their lack of a center probably with hartenstein gone. Robinson will probably only be available for 18-20 minutes per night

Basketball reference says last year, he played 1% of his minutes at the 1, 77% at the 2.
He did play 52% at the 1 in his rookie season.
He's been over 50% at the 2 his whole career except his rookie season.

Because neither Donte nor Ant are point guards. And Conley was one of the main reasons this team was good last season

I’m not sure this makes the Knicks that much better, but they are damn good, still think the Celtics are slightly better but it’s gonna be close. I don’t hate this for Minnesota either, the Towns and Gobert combo didn’t really work. I’m not sure it makes Minnesota better either. It’s a good deal for both teams that makes both teams probably about the same.
