    Pretty sure the blade is CNC milled and not ground on belts. Also North Arm knives is located 10 minutes from me so GO TEAM! Still not going on a wait list for one though.

      Yeah maybe in the future we can custom order our knives from 3D mill to our hand and mill our blade grind preference.
      More or less it’s a bit lazy way but grismo does it and no one complains.

    • @atomedgesharpening
      @atomedgesharpening 5 років тому +4

      @@WillEDC I wouldn't call it lazy.... Lot of thought and planning goes into programming the cnc. It takes less touch or physical skill than hand grinding for sure but....what are you paying for?

    • @WillEDC
      @WillEDC 5 років тому

      Maxwell Super they would have to do another hand polishing step. In my Tighe Breaker, they also mill the blade but it’s so fine that I almost missed it. As long as it works I’m fine

    • @darichard11
      @darichard11 5 років тому

      It is CNC milled. They could move the milling lines closer together, and have done this on some of their kitchen knives previously. I'm sure it's a cost issue.

    I've had my skaha 2 for 11 months and within 2 weeks sold every other knife i had and have never looked back... i did take sandpaper to the slipper jimping after a week and ive never had the issue you did with blistering. Ive beat the crap out of it at work cut up thousands of boxes taken it camping making feather sicks and battoning through medium and small kindling with it... its an absolute tank for how light it is.... plus the blade is so well ground it slices like nobody's business

    Pete, That was probably the most thorough presentation of a knife that I’ve seen. Adding numerical cutting performance and a comparison of knives aiming for the same market really sets this video apart from other reviews and discussions.

    Wonder if the gents at North Arms saw this review and decided to smooth over the flipper tab! Been watching a few reviews on it since I got my email earlier today to purchase my own finally! Noticed on Kevin's review over at Knife Nerdery it was something he commented on. It's almost a full polished finish all around the tab. Sort of a late comment but hope ya see it! Hope you're well buddy! Keep up the great work, love the content!

    I completely agree. Availability is huge for me. I like blades that I can order that day as soon as I see it. Just mass produce your knives already north arms! They are so well known that everyone would own one or two just like the rat knives! Hire some more workers and get it done 👶🏼! But if you can’t without killing the quality too much I understand. But there has to be a middle ground. Also why are Australian bagels missing the hole in the center?!

    It looks like there is a subtle finger groove near the lock release that could be holding your large finger in contact with the flipper tab. My guess is that people with smaller hands don’t experience the flipper pushing on the finger like you did because their fingers fit in the allotted space.

    • @CedricAda

      Joel Hansen yes, this is likely the case - hands are a bit like feet in that a shoe that feels good to one can have everything in the wrong spot for another

  • @HikikomoriZone

    My issue wasn't the jimping, but rather the position of the flipper when open. Jimping or not, I really dislike when a flipper tab protrudes into the space where my hand 'wants' to grip handle. It's otherwise fantastic, but I couldn't get past that and ended up selling mine.

    I put myself on the wait-list when I was more or less done with knives (and moved on to fountain pens :) ) - so the wait was not too much of an issue in fact I forgot about it. I got my email "Option to Buy" two days ago. I'm watching reviews to decide if I should get it. I suppose I will - the reviews are mostly positive, the action seems satisfying, and not getting it seems disrespectful to those who waited every second of the 14 months or so haha

    So are you getting a pretty good feel for when a knife will stop cutting paper after all these test?
    I mean do you chop through the rope with that final slice and think "that's it - won't cut paper now!"
    Or are you sometimes surprised when it won't cut?

    A positive about small batch knives is there ability to change the design. Hopefully they can fix the flipper issue. Piece of rope or ropes dust in the bearings, is why washers are better. Ot a fan of to strong detents or to weak for that matter. Knives in the 150$ mark should have perfect detents. As far as price and quality materials,meh. Quality materials on any knife are not that expensive .fit ,finish,function and most important design is where the expense is justifiable ,in my opinion. Thx for review.

    there's some masterful cheese-cutting on show here. the belligerent and militant lower-third of a cheese-block can call upon arcane magicks when threatened, distorting human perception and lulling the knife askew. some say a faint ethereal chuckle can be heard as the human surveys the piteous wedge they are then doomed to accept.
