Since an OEM display is an original display with a new glass, doesn't this mean it should have some OLED degradation or burn-in depending on its previous usage?
Yes, finding a pristine quality OLED refurbished one is not only uncommon, but expensive. Not as expensive as an actual brand new one, but still expensive.
Hard OLEDs suck. I had one on my iPhone X, and when I pulled the phone out of my pocket the screen was damaged really badly, but I didn’t do anything. The glass was undamaged also. After that, I went with an original panel. Colors and strength are much better.
I replaced the LCD on my iPhone 8, the first one I ordered was damaged, and they sent a free replacement. It was $32.99 on Amazon and I got good tools, and I got to keep the damaged screen, so the replacement front camera might be able to be reused. It comes with a screw mat, good tools, screen protector, and waterproof seal. Sadly, I broke the home button.
Keep in mind though refurbished OLEDs might also come cheaper if they come with certain burn ins. Finding one in A quality with no burn ins is indeed very expensive. Finding B grade ones can be a cost saving measure if small amounts of burn ins dont matter to you
This is the biggest issue I've found with refurbs. It has been very difficult getting an display with even and not discolored gray colors. 2/3 displays had big green tint. 1 of them was decent so I got it. Now I wonder if I should've pushed to see more panels or maybe gone for a good aftermarket one, since the one I got isn't good as the original one as well.

OEM is relatively expensive, but you know what you‘re getting. Since I don’t have a repair shop and just do this for my friends I‘ll stay with that option.
Unless it's from Aliexpress, because to their sellers "high quality third party" is what makes it "oem" and will advertise it as such. Already fell for it once, fortunately I got my money back. It's safer when they say the screen is "used", because then you know the screen is the original one that they refurbished.
I got an LCD display for my OnePlus 5 as I was tired of breaking OLED screens. If left on for a long time, the bottom of the phone gets really hot, only on the screen side, most likely when stepping up the voltage for the backlight and the backlight brightness changes in 5 steps and the screen seems to run at 30Hz. Good enough to transfer files to a new phone or something.
I had an hard oled on my iphone xs and I also noticed heavy ghosting on image (especially when changed from a dark image to a white one), terrible contrast and low brightness,at point of being unusable in low light and issues with touch recognition. In my opinion anything but soft oled or oem is a terrible choice you will deeply regret, given how much these phones costs
