This is not the official version. This uses an early take of the song and matches it with alt/rare scenes from the film. The finished song adds violins, cellos, recorded scenes from Shakespear, etc... and is a work of art. The official version syncs the song and the video much better.

You don't need to be a genius to understand that it's a smart guy who made a cover of this song by just putting the vocals on it and putting the video on top of everything. It works, he has plenty of views and likes and the people even ended up believing it, to the point of making reaction videos, which is a shame. I've been listening to their songs for over 30 years and as a fan, the "in progress" beta versions are known, this instrumental cover has nothing to do with them.
Do your own research and you will quickly understand that this version was never recorded by the Beatles.

"I Am the Walrus" was written by John Lennon & is from their 1967 TV musical film "Magical Mystery Tour". It is one of their more quirky songs. John wrote the song to confuse listeners who were constantly trying to make serious scholarly interpretations of the Beatles' lyrics.

John wrote this song and it’s not supposed to make sense. He wrote it that way because people were trying to figure out what their songs mean. Don’t think really hard about it, it’s supposed to be nonsensical

The lyrics are very British, very "tongue-in-cheek", so it really comes as no wonder if people from other countries (like me) have a hard time understanding all the innuendoes. A part of it is inspired by "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" (the walrus and the Eggman, i.e. Humpty Dumpty), and children nursery rhymes (the Yellow-matter custard stuff). Other parts are probably sayings or proverbs turned inside out by John Lennon. "Semolina Pilchard" is probably a reference to policeman Norman Pilchard, who had made a point of going after pop stars and get them for drugs possession. I've always found this song absolutely brilliant, in its own, psychedelic, absolutely quirky way.

I have a kinda funny story about this song. I worked for a big company that supplied all media to stores like Walmart back in the day. I got a call one day from a lady at a Walmart in the middle of nowhere with a customer who had a special request. She had gotten a letter from her son, who was in Operation Desert Storm, about his funeral if he was killed there. He wanted "I Am the Warrior" by The Beatles played. I sat there forever, trying to think of that song, but nothing. Suddenly, it dawned on me that the kid has been hearing the warrior instead of the walrus his entire life. I had to tell this woman that I could have it sent to the store, but she might want to check with her son, telling him the correct lyrics. I never heard back from anyone, so I assume the kid made it back in one piece. And that's my story....lol.

"yellow matter custard / dripping from a dead dog's eye..."
"Coo-coo a chew" like "crazy crazy and so on..."
The thing is, these lyrics are John's poetry. They mean what they suggest to each of us.
This song is full of suggestions. At one point he runs under the music quotes from Shakespeare's "King Lear" e.g. "I knew him well. A serviceable villain. As duteous to his mistress as badness would desire"...."What is he dead?" ..."Sit you down, father. Rest you."

First you have to remember that this took place during the 1960s during the famed Summer of Love in Frisco and psychedelics were everywhere hence all of the bright colors. The lyrics were found in the mind of John Lennon who was just in one of his moods and decided to write kind of a nonsenses song just to mess with the people who were writing treatises on the deeper meaning of his lyrics. He kept them going for quite a while until he was found out.

Greg, my man, it's simple...you don't understand cuz you're not trippin. Way back in the day, every time I tripped, I forgot to put on this song. So I never found out the meaning either. My acid days are long behind me, I think, so I'm gonna have to count on a youngster like yourself to drop the tab and have another listen so you can let us know what you saw and heard. I'll be waiting anxiously. 😬

It's interesting because the same thing happened to the Moody Blues during that era. People just starting making religious idols out of their favorite musicians then. They were getting high and constantly taking lyrics way to far as to make their life's mantra out of them. The Moody Blues had to release a song called "I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band" to tell their fans to stop digging into the meanings of their music. I guess the same kind of thing was going on with the Beatles and this was their way to respond to it. It's a cool song though. I really like the vibe to it. I'm glad it exists and wonder if they'd have ever written something similar to it with sensible lyrics if nonsense wasn't their mission.

That is not the official final version of the song, it's some kind of alternate take or unfinished mix. And I think that is a re-edited fan video, not the official one taken from the Magical Mystery Tour Film.

As the Beatles popularity grew more and more folks were trying desperately to interpret their music to what they thought the Beatles were trying to convey to their listeners. John decided to write this song to really drive these folks crazy while trying to figure this one out. John meant for it not to make sense knowing that these nuts were going to do what they could to make sense out of something that didn't mean to make sense at all. Trust me these idiots actually tried unsuccessfully mind you and they drove themselves crazy trying to. John and the rest of the band members got a HUGE laugh out of it. You should try listening to their early hits and then listen to how they changed and adapted to how the times and culture started changing in the music world.

If you want to hear a Way Out Song, Check Out Helter Skelter. Late 60's regarding the The Charles Manson Murders. They were at the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time. There's only 2 Beatles Left and Alive, Paul McCartney and Ringo Star. John Lennon and George Harrison were both killed by Sick Fans. Sad, but true.

You keep getting it right and then drift back to wrong again. What you said at the beginning, "I don't know what they're saying, but I know what they mean." That says it all! This is called "psychedelic music," from "psychedelic drugs." But like so many rock songs, the meaning is to be interpreted by the listener. When I was a kid listening to this and whatever song, you generally listened to it on the radio with no lyrics attached. Even many albums didn't include the lyrics. The lyrics are there to take you where you need to go with them. Even if, as in many cases, you get the lyrics wrong, you still paint your own picture from the tone of the music and the lyrics you think you're listening to. Your personal imagination comes first. Just sit back and go with the flow of the music and let your imagination add the meaning. This is hard to describe from someone who has always heard lyrics used in the literal sense. Rock music writes its lyrics from poetry. And if you've ever read poetry you know there is a lot left to the imagination and interpretation. The world of rock is a different one from modern music and requires a different frame of mind to appreciate. Rarely having the lyrics at hand and so much of the vocals difficult to make out, it's really remarkable that I was never that curious. And nobody else seemed all that concerned either. We all had our own wonderlands to drop into with our own meanings and visuals emanating from our minds whenever a song was cued up. Really, looking back on it, it was quite amazing that nobody back then even mentioned what I just explained. I had to think about it before writing this. Hope that helps.

The original track has much more going on sonically, and doesn't go so terribly out of time like this one does. I'm sorry you ruined your first time reaction to this song, but this track should be thrown in the trash in favor of the "real" version of this song that the Beatles actually released.
