Get a unimog 6x6 or a Man 6x6 this thing is not offroad/expedition capable to climb cliffs/deep mud, it has air suspension and no portal axles for ground clearance. Although it is cool with 8 wheel drive.

I can tell you from experience that if a person needed a true heavy haul tractor, you can't go wrong with this beast, but you really gotta have a good use for it as it is huge and sports enough power to get the job done, that Detroit does not sling oil or reverse like the older ones, the interior lends itself to a wide range of customization possibilities, it's surprisingly smooth riding, great trucks coming out of Wisconsin.

@@facediaper4607 I am still not sure where you got your stats and info on how the military acquires equipment but as a real long term veteran I can honestly tell you that we never had a serious issue with this vehicle, normal wear and tare to be expected not to mention operator error, but as far as Oshkosh in Wisconsin, they are a specialized manufacturer of many types of heavy duty vocational vehicles and a long history with a proud reputation for tough vehicles, I still don't have a reason as to why you feel these are junk as you say, I spent a good majority of life in the USMC and spoke to many motor pool technicians and mechanics as well as operations of said vehicles and I've yet to hear any one say "JUNK", I was at faluja and a few other hot spots and can't tell you how many times these saved our butts.

These are old Army/USMC tank haulers. If you want one or more seriously, they're for sale by the US Government surplus sale pages, and they're all for the most part low mile and low hour vehicles. Your issue would seriously come down to making these legal for the road for DOT and the state you live in. And spare parts(so you'd be looking at purchasing more than two of these for parts, someone who actually KNOWS the trucks issues and how to fix em, and this one has some things missing on the inside.

They actually belong to an independent operator and the British Army lease them; they use them for more than just tank transporters in fact originally the idea was to use them for normal 3rd party transport when not needed by the military, daft idea and never happened. I just said elsewhere that the British ones use the CAT C18 rather than the Detroit, there are other differences too, but that's the big obvious one.
