I feel like big swings in changes don’t go well when people like the consistency of the original format. There’s trust and love in knowing that they’re going to get smart people being silly while discussing football. Don’t get why they don’t just do this format when the season starts up against.
Some ideas for the new Podcast. As guests, why not get Joe Devine, JJ Bull and Reuben Pinder, and maybe just chat about recent football and other off-tangent topics. Think that would make a great Podcast 👍
@@codybauer4343it’s continuing in a different format - similar to Jon’s chat with James Montague. Whilst not Tifo specifically, The Atheltic’s podcasts offer similar vibes but focusing more on football
Please don’t end the show ! Or at least replace it with something that still enables such fantastic chit chat (not even football related) amongst you lot
Joe, let’s make a deal - what do we as an audience need to do for the Tifo Football Podcast to stay around somewhat in its current format we’re willing to listen, we’re willing to bargain please don’t kill the family dog joe
As much as I love Joe, he is very good at dishing out the s#!t and you boys take it like champs. With only a few podcasts left, you guys need to go in two-footed as often as possible. Channel your inner Schar and get flying boys! We're all here for it.
I don't think we realise how lucky we were with the daily podcasts during the world cup. Football from 10am until 9pm, every day, followed by this beautiful podcast.
Sucks its ending, mostly because its so different from every other football podcasts out there. I'm sure I'll find a different podcast out there that will fill this niche, but its just an end of an era and I cant help but feel sad that we'll have to move on elsewhere but never again really recapture the sheer *vibe* of this pod
Sad to see the podcast go, I've been listening for years. Also, I think it's really funny that if this were in the United States, Ruben would have a solid case for workplace harassment because you can't make fun of a coworker's age. And then some jury would have to listen to episodes of the podcast and hear Joe Devine's halftime talk where he says he's going to murder their families. Anyway, please don't end the podcast
It’s insane that they’re ending this podcast. We already have “The *Totally* Football Show” to focus on pure serious content. “The *Tifo* Football Podcast” is about the spirit of enjoying the game, the banter, the nosedives in attention away from the TV and then sudden jolts back to focusing on the game. No one else can do this podcast like you do. Please please reconsider canceling the show.
I'm so ready for AC Milan vs Inter it's gonna be an awesome battle. Real Madrid vs Man City will probably be more of the same or different result than last time which eliminates the defending champs which is a tall task. Also Sevilla could certainly put away Juventus in the first leg and potentially extend it in the 2nd since they won't have Europa League next year.
Only started regularly listening to this show with the daily World Cup episodes - gutted that it's ending (in this form) because I love the energy and chemistry
I wish you didn't think you needed to scrap this beautiful podcast and try a different format. It is truly a wonderfully light recap of the events of the week in football, both on and off the pitch. I genuinely enjoy Joe, JJ, John, producer Steve, and the new bouncing baby boy's chemistry, world views, relationships, and humor. You accomplish what all podcasts strive to do: make us feel like we're part of an enlightened conversation among friends, with all the banter and insight that comes with it. Also, your world cup coverage this last year was second to none, and I mean that with my whole heart. I will miss this podcast immensely. Thank you tifo irl crew 💛💛 From Virginia with love
GK amazing with his feet: Diogo Costa. 1st choice for Portugal team and best keeper in the Portuguese league by a country mile. Calm, good with his feet and only 23 years old
Yeah it’s dumb, they’ve stumbled on something that works and rather than let it grow they are ending it and moving onto something with a much lower ceiling.
I don't think it's a decision driven by Joe and the ppl at Tifo, feel like it's The Athletic making a decision from top because they have other podcasts that they feel are better. Which sucks honestly.
I really do think it's a bad move to end this podcast. It feels like a chat with your mates every week and gives you that 'part of the group' feeling. This is where you create a community and become close to your core support/fan-base. TIFO has plenty of interesting videos and the concept with John sounds great but it also sounds pretty hit and miss because the numbers will be more dictated by the subject, guest, etc. I love it as an addition but as a replacement, I think we're losing more than we're gaining as fans. I suspect this has a lot to do with time and Joe Devine wanting to dial back his on-screen presence to concentrate on running the company. However, Joe's on-screen presence and personality, along the chemistry everyone seems to have, is a huge part of TIFO's charm.
100% agree on the point you made about referees having to manage the game. You see loads of games billed as top of the table clashes or relegation fights scuppered by incessant refereeing interventions and early cards. Letting the game flow is essential to any good game and improves the spectacle massively when its done right. However, that can swing the other way, I thought the referee in the Newcastle vs Arsenal game seemed to be trying to level the playing field. It was obviously Newcastle's intention to make very strong tackles and leave one on Arsenal. You could see right away when Wilson made a very hard tackle on Jorginho & Bruno raked the back of Saka's leg off the ball, neither of which were given as a foul, but, most notably, Newcastle's targeting of Xhaka presumably to solicit a reaction. The referee makes a conscious decision to allow that carry on thus improving Newcastle's chances and risking Arsenal's players. Similarly, it was obviously Arsenal's tactic to slow the game down. They took ages with throw ins and goal kicks particularly but also delayed things by arguing with the ref or rolling around on the ground. The referee allowed that and it improved Arsenals chances. I think both of these tactics should be allowed by the referee up to a point and that point is way before 75th minute. Nobody wants to see players hurt or time wasted. Those tactics snowball and get worse as the game went on. The referee should have intervened at half time or, at the latest, by the hour mark.
I think they missed a point in that the refs are there to keep 22 players on the pitch also against injuries We know what soft yellows look like, and ones that verge on orange. It was galling to see some tackles go unpunished when we all know they were yellows. When you don't book players for that, you set dangerous presidents
Don’t end this channel and podcast and other videos, this is the only informative and educational football show that exist now. Informative, interesting cast and amazing quality content. Keep this channel and format!!!!!! YNWA!!!!
This podcast really helped me understand and enjoy football alot more over the past few years. What makes Tifo unique is how they do quality analysis in a really entertaining way. Devastated that the pod is ending.
This is the only podcast that i look for every wee. I listen during work and then watch it later in the week aswell. Please at least keep this fun format. Love the podcast
1:01:00, the thing he is forgetting to say here is that Ancelotti also won 2 Champions League with AC Milan 20 years ago, and then went on to win the Premier League with Chelsea, win with PSG, then with Madrid, then with Munich and then with Madrid again. I think it's fair to say we know how good he would be anywhere else by now.🙄 He is the absolute best.
This is the only football podcast I can actually bare to listen to as the rest take themselves insanely seriously and are incredibly boring. Gutted it’s coming to an end, but thank you for easy listening and laughs along the way.
This has The Athletic's grubby hands all over it. Tifo Podcast was becoming too powerful and competing with their other shows so they've murdered our beloved format.
Regarding the GK situantion on Man U. Diogo Costa from FC Porto would be a interesting alternative for De Gea, imo. (I am a Porto fan, so my opinion is biased.. even against my own will on keep him)
I listened to the podcast on my phone and nearly crashed my car I was laughing so bad during the Cobbler's fight songs and Steven Shoemaker. Best pod on The Athletic.
I don't think the main issue people have with refereeing is accuracy. It's consistency. Identical challenge in different games either should always be a red or never be a red. Same with penalties - given the consequences of both. Much as people complain about micro-mistakes with offsides I think it's the more impactful decisions that are harder for people to take
Is De Gea a good shot stopper? I remember the 2018 World cup, when he played 4 matches and didn't save even one shot. I would like to see his statistics this season. His shot saved percentage is probably not very high.
I love you guys. Please go back on your word and bring this back eventually lol. Genuinely love listening to y’all just ramble off topic at times; it has a different charm than the uber focused & detailed videos. Much Mahalo (Thanks) from Hawaii 🤙🏼🌺
I disagree about the refereeing comments (between Arsenal vs Newcastle) so strongly - surely the referee should be consistent throughout every PL game? Irrelevant if it's Arsenal vs Newcastle or Arsenal vs Southampton (just because they're 20th). Why would referees let a team (e.g., Newcastle) to be more physical then normal, just because they're playing another CL rival?? Also, RE: the point about keeping 22 players on the pitch - where do injuries fit into this? Bruno raking his studs down Saka's calf/achilies (to stop a counter attack as well) could have big consequences! (I'm still baffled as to how Bruno didn't get booked at all!!)
