It's weird how American sports teams have the option to just up and leave if they don't get their way and people just go along with it. If Manchester United just decided the city of Manchester wasn't throwing enough money their way and they moved to Birmingham or something instead, they would just lose 90% of their fans and Birmingham residents mostly wouldn't have any interest in supporting them, because why would you support a carpet bagging team with no connection to the city like that?
The same thing happens in America however, (at least in the NFL's case) the number of fans means literally nothing as long as the area's market is good. Prime example being the former San Diego, currently Los Angeles Chargers. They play in a 30,000 seat stadium in a league where nearly all stadiums hold 60,000+ people. Couple that with the fact that the team itself is staggeringly mediocre and you'd assume they'd be losing money, right? Wrong. Turns out they're actually making a bigger profit playing in LA than San Diego. Yep, they lost all of their fans in San Diego and went to a city that literally doesn't want them, plus they're playing second fiddle to another team that's playing far better, and are crammed into a stadium with less than half of the attendance size of an average NFL stadium... and they're _still_ better off than before. Go figure that one out.

so proud of San Diego for refusing to pay for a new stadium for the chargers. hopefully more cities will fully suit and insist the bilionaires have it privately funded.
You should all understand that there’s nothing inherent to capitalism that causes tax payer funds to be profit for the very rich. That’s actually something we usually see in post-Marxist economies. It’s crony capitalism.
If you want to take it further, pretty much every sport in the world is at least this corrupt. Even Sumo Wrestling, a sport based around honor, is insanely corrupt deep down.
@ Banana Bill: No, luckily the local government was smart enough to not give money to Stephen Ross to renovate his stadium. But what Vox is telling you is that your tax dollars are used for Marlins to lose at home. SMH.
I refer back to the last day of marketing class in college so many years ago when the instructor told all of us to remember the following: "when marketing products and services in general - just remember that people are stupid and lazy by nature". We all thought he lost it but in thinking about it in many things - especially today - this now makes sense. In the beginning of this video there is mention of spending of public money on things the public enjoys and benefits from such as infrastructure, parks, etc. i.e. needs vs. wants plus $$ spent on infrastructure would involved the use of logic and intelligence which is just not acceptable (sarcastic). I also heard some mention of old stadiums coming down that were not even paid for so as to have new - bigger and better. Our overall fascination with debt and never getting out of it is catching up with us and this is just another part of it. Watched a guy yesterday purchase a new 75" TV because of the "big game" and he told me it was to replace a 55" less than 2 years old - back to what my marketing instructor stated on the last day of class.
I do not condone or agree with violence or "killing" but defintely need to "wake up" and get priorites straight - back to "wants vs. needs". We do not "need" new stadiums just to help the millionaires/billionaires increase their networth. We do need decent roads, bridges, water & septic systems, affordable and decent healthcare for all; and a long term plan to elimate goverment debt but all of these things I just mentioned are way way to difficult and involve intelligence, logic and worst of all - "commo sense" (old school term) to solve. Anyone care to explain how a new Stadium anywhere and anytime paid for in any way by the public even begins to help solve any of the above problems/issues? Wants vs. needs.........
@ MarlinMR7: Your marketing professor was ahead of his time. I’m just glad I (usually) don’t fall for those tricks. Marketing and advertising is a waste of money. If people weren’t so lazy and stupid, it would cease to exist.
@@chengsio2639 People like to say they don't fall for their tricks but that's just ignorance. You most certainly have fallen for a marketing trick or ploy and just subconsciously didn't realize it.
It's actually a political practice. It was used in ancient Rome by building the Colosseum. If you keep the population distracted by amusement, they won't pay attention to politics and won't complain.
The reason Rome fell is because it overextended itself beyond its capability to support itself. High taxes were necessary to support the conquering armies. To appease the people they not only did such things as provide entertainment in the Colosseum, but instituted social welfare programs that increasingly grew in size. The result was less taxes being paid and an unsatisfied army. Rome was forced to hire mercenaries to defend their borders. When these Norse mercenaries weren't paid, they turned on Rome and sacked her for the payment they considered due to them.
@@maxpieters7934 Multiculturalism is mostly right, germanic tribes moved into their borders and gradually "changed" their way of living. There was no swift downfall to Rome per se, it happened over centuries, but the wars/turmoil definitely didn't help.
But...but...they have STUDIES! And what the studies show is a trickle-down effect from the people commissioning the study into the pockets of the people DOING the study. And the "studies" ALWAYS show that making billionaires richer by giving them money from the public coffers will benefit somebody. Just not the citizens as a group. (This is why I taught my kids to always question news stories and articles supported by the claim "studies show", with nothing more specific than that.)
This isn't trickle down... it's just crony capitalism. A stadium is essentially a giant handout/subsidy to a corporation. Trickle down economics deals with corporations that actually hire people with real jobs. This is actually an example of why a free market is essential... the government needs to stay out of the private sector and let the market function naturally
@@megatrollificus Dude, most of these stadiums do pay out on the long run (6-7 years after it were built). They do benefit the city. The stadium is there for the city to use when NFL games are not played. Concerts and gatherings occurs in it. The hotels, restaurants, even taxi folks benefit from it. This video doesn't show the revenue of cities who built these stadiums. It's a FACT-free And desired-conclusion driven video.
Finally a Vox video I can 100% agree with, as a Minnesotan who really didn’t like it when they built the second stadium in Minneapolis. At least the majority of the funding came from gambling - football and gambling go hand in hand in my mind, so it seems they payed for it themselves.
I'm glad you liked the video. The new taxes cities create - like the gambling tax in MN or the hotel/restaurant/car rental taxes in Las Vegas are still diverting public money away from public works and investment and handing it to large private industries.
If I pay taxes to fund your project and you don’t want to invest a single dollar for the team that you own, you’re greedy. But you get to keep the profits. I can’t stand these people
I love football but I still hate that this is a thing. Owners are already billionaires... they need to get over it and pay for it themselves if they really want to help the community.
How do you think they became billionaires? They know how to make others pay for things Congratulations as an eagles fan I watched the game this year (I am from the UK it was amazing win) For the record we have some of the same issues in the UK the team I support Arsenal build a new stadium using their own resources but other teams are hawking stadia in London. It is not as bad as in the US since local authorities now cannot raise the type of funds to support such endevours
I don't like football. I like public parks, farmers markets, bowling alleys, shopping malls, grocery stores, 52 public libraries in my county and I visit at least 6 of them per month, and public transit. Oh my, things that the general public use every day 24/7/365, whereas only the highly devoted will go into o financial debt over Premium Football Game Tickets. I can go to a Mariner game and get one ticket for myself for $25, and spend another $35 on food/soda. Whether we lose or win, the money and time I spend at a baseball game is much more worth the cost than spending my tax dollars on an NFL stadium I'll never see in person.
One day (one scenario), every single county (in the US) would be placed with at least one football stadium, and that eventually county's get into a point where small business fail. Only my opinion and my thoughts.
@@redbarn6160 Maybe in an Econ 101 textbook. But here in the real world, Capitalism can't survive without government. Co-opting the government to funnel public money into corporate coffers is bog-standard Capitalism.
Why should we pay? Between the salary of all owners, players, and investors- they can build their own freaking stadium. Since when did the NFL become a necessity? Overpriced parking, food, and drinks to top it all off. The simple answer is GREED. But hey, that answer is political enough…
American cities have some of the worst infrastructure yet we are wasting tax payer money for some worthless stadiums whose benefit only lasts a few days. Imagine if we spent that money rebuilding our broken bridges, highways and public utilities instead.
Asfakul Islam that’s not entirely correct. I’m not sure if you watch soccer, but in Miami there is an ownership group trying to get a stadium built, and this has been delayed for years because the people that live in the city the stadium will be built in have been protesting. Even though the ownership group was awarded a team, the mayor has made it clear that the stadium site is not said and done. The locals have continued to protest, and it’s understandable why. This is not the first time locals have prevented a sports stadium from getting built.
I did tear up a little when the Ga Dome came down. I graduated there and it wasn't anything wrong with it. And the fact they tore down churches to build a new stadium for the Falcons. THE FALCONS!!!! WHY???
They built that new stadium to replace the Georgia Dome, just be in the race to get a bid to host a super bowl. And the super bowl tourism is a big driving force, to persuade cities that they will "see a return". But usually they will most likely only get to host ONE super bowl, which definitely won't make up for the lost of money. And the Georgia dome was a fine stadium, it just wasn't one of those "new era stadiums" that the NFL is pushing owners to make if they want to host. Considering that Atlanta fans aren't the strongest/diehard in any sport, this will be a bad investment for the city. It should be mandatory that the franchise uses the tax money as a loan, which must be paid back *directly,* instead of a hand out to a team owned by a billionaire.
Demonta Barrino either way, that money was going to the city and could've been used on much better stuff to get a stable economic return. We won't see that money come back into our city for the next 10 or 15 years.
ThisguyQuake please explain how you have a free market in healthcare. The way it is with insurance companies is : 1) I don't know what I'm paying until I get it 2) I'm paying with someone else's money 3) I have boatloads of paperwork and overhead in the insurance companies. Explain how that's anywhere close to a free market or consumer choice. I couldn't even decide what's cheapest if I wanted to because there's no price transparency.
We truly live in the age of bread and circuses. History has a strange way of rhyming. People barely bat an eye when a sports franchise gets several hundred million dollars from a city to build a stadium. But they foam at the mouth when it comes to spending money to improve public education, build affordable housing, expand mass transit, fix bridges and roads and build other public infrastructure. Its as if Rome has returned.
I think you didn't emphasize enough that these stadiums would still make a profit if they were built with private funds. This is an important distinction. If these things were not profitable - it would make sense to subsidize them as long as residents say they need a team with a stadium. But they are profitable, which essentially moves this whole story into the area of businessmen practically stealing public funds.
It's not the businessmen stealing. What happens is that smaller cities without NFL teams try to bribe existing teams to re-locate there by offering to build free stadiums for them. If you owned a business, would you turn down $500 million in assets for free? So then the city where the current team is located has to offer a competitive deal to convince the team to stay. This whole thing is entirely the fault of city governments that are willing to harm themselves in order to steal a business from another city. The business owner's only duty is to accept the deal that is best for the health of his business.
Have you considered that the fact that maybe a system where the best course for someone is to let money go away from infrastructure and schools is not in fact the best.
To say that a new stadium, or any stadium for that matter, will bring new money into the community is ridiculous. Take Dallas for instance. For that to be true, a very large number of fans who buy seats and attend games have to come from outside the Dallas Ft. Worth area for that to be true. Otherwise, the money spent at the stadium buy residents of the area is money that would have been spent elsewhere in the community if the team was not there. It's not new or outside money.
Exactly, if that 7 billion dollars had been left to the consumer, it would generate way more economic growth. Consumers would be able to buy more stuff, and many of it would be long term, improving general quality of life. What does a nfl game get you? Joy, that has been brainwashed into you by nfl wealthy who bribe the media. Taxpayers hard earned money going into nfl pockets and generating unnecessary deadweight loss, what a joke!
Yeah as a person from San Diego I laughed when the chargers had one of their first game and there were more dolphins fans than chargers fans in the stadium 😂
New Orleans has been using the superdome since the 70s and even after Katrina is still being used, and loved by all. If New Orleans decided to rebuild a new stadium after Katrina, a piece of new orleans would be gone, and have a negative impact on the city.
What is being pointed out though is not every stadium have the same benefits as the others. Some states/cities have different uses for their stadiums and there are different people owning them which may take advantage of the public's money. Some stadiums are used by the public other than football games while others are just their for occasional use and does not provide enough for the community which was pointed out in the video. Some stadiums are just built to get money from the public while other infrastructures are neglected. Again, not every city/state are like this.
I was never into football anyways. I find it ridiculous how much money, people, and industries are invested in watching a handful of wealthy sports players play a game. I know that it can be fun to watch, but the interest is WAY too bloated, this video is proof.
It's a fascinating game. Each play is a collection of battles and adjustments and assignments and reads and reactions, each series of downs is like a little war, every game is like a great campaign...if you're interested in it and know a bit about it. Just a shame it's built on the backs and tax dollars of people who don't even care about it. That's corrupt, and it sucks.
By technicality the Rams did have a publicly financed dome (We (Missouri) are still in debt paying off the old stadium until 2020 when the last payment is due). You can’t forget about STL’s one last offer either, the 1.1 billion dollar dome that would include 400 million in public funding. I know I am not alone on this but I am glad they are gone.
Not double edge. Just one: retardation of the sort a child can understand. Sports are for people who like taking it in the ass by society and need a place to take their anger out by watching monkeys collide against each other while throwing around an object.
Galvahnize Sports DO NOT unify the world, at least not in any good way (if we were to name something like the Olympics). What you're describing is just a mutual activity you share with friends while hanging out. Nothing wrong with that but also completely irrelevant and nothing to do with the bigger picture.
The realities of life... Nfl is a waste of a good life, try going outside and do outdoor activities rather spend all your time and money watching this garbage
because our society has its priorities completely backwards. Why do people even pay the money they do to watch games at these stadiums? A football game isn't nearly entertaining enough to pay a hundred dollars to watch, even if the cold bleachers were replaced with massage chairs and the "beer" were replaced with actual beer (watered down BL isn't beer, folks).
Chad Sweeney Because people have hobbys and like to be entertained.. its fun to go to football games, and it has a great atmosphere. Just because you have different ideas of fun doesn't make the others wrong. Stop with the bias.
In Minnesota’s defense, the Metrodome which is what we just replaced was having costly repairs being needed for the roof as it kept breaking due to heavy snow buildup. That and there were also safety concerns iirc and those two issues culminated in needing a replacement stadium.
1:18 Did anyone take a look at this? Never since the Cowboys the NFL has been using more private money then public money. While the public may have increased, it's not a billion dollar spike on the public it's a billion dollars spike for private.
Reminds one of the time the owner took his NFL team out of one city in the middle of the night. The owner of a NFL team got a major wake-up call from the company that owns the stadium last year, causing the team owner to change plans about moving his team.
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."
Note for the Rams relocation back to Los Angeles in 2016: Stan Kroenke and the Rams organization was found to be negotiating in bad faith with the city of St. Louis and was forced to pay I think $1 billion to STL. Also SoFi Stadium is one of the few stadiums to be built with no public funding
LeBron James not always but mostly they mostly win it because simply the Qb is the main man who throws touch down passes and passes the ball so someone can score a rushing touchdown point is usually the Qb wins the game overall + being the captain they usually get the credit for it there have been occasions where a Qb didn't win the MVP sure look at tom Brady he won the MVP 4 times and 5 Superbowl that means in one of those Superbowl he didn't win the MVP
You are absolutely correct when you point out that building new stadiums with public money isn't the only issue here. The emotional need of communities to have an NFL franchise, which hopefully turns out to be a winner, is a powerful force. Now lets go watch Super Bowl 52 today!
I live in a football city and I hate that the stadium is publicly funded. When everything is all payed off and our taxes are about to go back down the politicians and other city management always get together and try and keep the tax so it can be used for something else. Fact is we should have never had it in the first place.
The superdome in New Orleans was just renovated in 2006, $234 in 2017 dollars, im not sure if private/public. Wrestlemania gave an economic impact to the area of $181 million to the prevous year's town (Orlando citrus bowl). Assuming at least the same. That would mean the renovations would almost have been "paid" for with 1 10 day event. Not just NFL/ sports use these stadiums, Concerts/Live events use them to. If just NFL games were played at these stadiums it would be horrible since it would only be used 8ish days out of the year.
I don’t live in America, but when my city funded a stadium they made sure that local government owns it and built it with all kinds of events in mind. It’s a little engine of economic development primarily and it’s working. These stadiums are built for one primary purpose and that’s the facilitation of NFL football. Why not build something where NFL football is possible but so are all kinds of events. We had a regional arts festival last weekend in ours which very nearly out paced every individual sports event hosted in terms of economic stimulus and attendees.
1:42 *The H1B visa program that allowed Abhinav to migrate to US also doesn't provide any positive impact on our economy, instead Indians like him are imported as cheaper alternative to American workers. They use the same argument in support of H1B visa program that it creates jobs for Americans when in fact those H1B visa foreign workers are displacing Americans from their jobs who usually have to train their H1B replacement before getting fired from the jobs.*
Hawk Who Knows All very well said. However, our corrupt government is on rampage to destroy American middle class by making laws to allow for corporations, their donors, to displace American workers with cheaper foreign workers from India. Few bills have been passed in senate recently that will increase H1B visas from 85,000 to 195,000 per year and will get rid of per country quota of these visas that will help more Indians to get these visas and Green cards.
marc07112 because parking space is needed, people in those neighborhoods wouldn't want that many people flooding in, they arent ideal locations to fill the seats, and those are less likely to give the economy any type of boom than if it was in a less residential down town area. I actually dont know why your trying to argue that because it doesnt make any real sense, beverly hills isnt rich because of opportunitys in the area, its rich because of its reputation of rich people so more rich people flock to it and poorer people cant afford it
Sportsball is the lamest thing ever. Every sport is extremely corrupt, and this is just another example of that. Maybe people should pride themselves on things that matter, and not what group of sweaty men can run and catch a ball better.
This is America, a country where some people get offended bc a single mom get food stamps to survive, but don't care when rich people use their taxes money to get richer. The poor single mom would be called lazy even if she works 2 jobs; but the rich guy who get subsidies to build a stadium, would be treated like a hero. 😢
The stadiums can bring tourists for football alone, but also can be used for other things. For example the old charger stadium Qualcomm (now sdccu) is used for this event called race legal, and other cool events.
You sure? I thought I remembered something about a room tax or something. I could be wrong. All I really know is that the traffic on Ridge road is annoying on game days. Lol.
You are correct, taxpayers paid for a little over half the cost of renovations to Lambeau in 2003, but because the team has shareholders and not owners, the team sells stock to help pay for renovations. Since 2010, major renovations to the atrium and nearby complex have used $0 in taxpayer funds.
@ Jack Glowinski: Except those stocks are practically worthless. Anyone who bought those stocks don’t actually own a piece of the team. As the Wall Street Journal puts it, those stocks “pays no dividends, benefits from no earnings, isn’t tradeable and has no securities-law protection.”

If capitalisem was really implimeanted taxation wouldn't even exists
Capitalism 101 a state exists to get capitalist class richer
You should all understand that there’s nothing inherent to capitalism that causes tax payer funds to be profit for the very rich.
That’s actually something we usually see in post-Marxist economies. It’s crony capitalism.
This happens in pretty much every major sport in the US.
Im not saying that exonerates the NFL though; it doesnt.
Fjord Frost NFL stadiums are just the most expensive
NFL stadiums are the biggest and provide least return on investment cause there's fewer games and less events than arenas or baseball stadiums
If you want to take it further, pretty much every sport in the world is at least this corrupt. Even Sumo Wrestling, a sport based around honor, is insanely corrupt deep down.
Mls doesn't
Fjord Frost not MLB. Wrigley field is as beautiful as always.
So youre telling my tax dollars are used for the dolphins to lose at home SMH
@ Banana Bill: No, luckily the local government was smart enough to not give money to Stephen Ross to renovate his stadium. But what Vox is telling you is that your tax dollars are used for Marlins to lose at home. SMH.

Younes ZH this video?
no the money
I get that Mockingjay reference
Exactly, “owners threaten to move their teams”, hahaha, who gives af. Provide no value to society.
True......
Sad but true......:-(
"A fool and his money are soon parted."
Max Pieters Turned out well. Rome only fell due to extreme multi culturalism
You don't know what you're talking about.
Bread and circus. Keep people fed and entertained and they wont care about other problems
@@maxpieters7934 Multiculturalism is mostly right, germanic tribes moved into their borders and gradually "changed" their way of living. There was no swift downfall to Rome per se, it happened over centuries, but the wars/turmoil definitely didn't help.
What? The trickle down of money doesn't work?!? Shocking!!
It's such bullshit that the team's can do this. Communities need this money!
teams*

Get corporate donations out of politics, the NFL buys city delegates for cheap only for tens of thousands.
I will agree with it when Vox explains why they said Trump was wrong when he said the same thing
So you don't care about all the revenue coming in to the city?
William Pratt джжжжжоьт

I still don't understand how Atlanta justified the need for a new stadium. This is a classic example of the misuse of public funds - southern style.
xoPeachGuac Falcons are never going to win anyway.

It brought more development to the area.
xoPeachGuac you should see what law enforcement does to rob people of their money in the south

They know how to make others pay for things
Congratulations as an eagles fan I watched the game this year (I am from the UK it was amazing win)
For the record we have some of the same issues in the UK the team I support Arsenal build a new stadium using their own resources but other teams are hawking stadia in London. It is not as bad as in the US since local authorities now cannot raise the type of funds to support such endevours
@ jacob loera: Those owners don’t want to help the community. That’s the sad part...
@ blackandgold51: Wrong. Gillette Stadium accepted $72 million in public funding for construction.
John Oliver made an amazing video on this topic as well.
Definitely check it out if you're wondering how these teams get away with stuff like this.

This Channel asking the real questions
As a Brit watching these videos about the U.S I always come to the same conclusion, the U.S is excessively capitalistic and corrupt.
Kian Daneshi Because people like sports?
It doesn't apply to the premier league because the club itself has to pay for a new stadium, the money doesn't from local community tax.
Kim Boom Joong Clubs in the UK, and Europe for that matter pay for their own grounds.
How is using public funds to subsidize private companies a capitalistic thing? That is literally the opposite of it.
We got the same problem in Quebec City, half financed by public money. The irony? The stadium doesn't even host an NHL team... smh
Conrad McDougall Oh shut up
I find it hard to believe (well, not really) that the great city of Quebec has no NHL team, while Phoenix, Miami, and Nashville do.
Because tax payers have no say where the money would be spent
Asfakul Islam that’s not entirely correct. I’m not sure if you watch soccer, but in Miami there is an ownership group trying to get a stadium built, and this has been delayed for years because the people that live in the city the stadium will be built in have been protesting. Even though the ownership group was awarded a team, the mayor has made it clear that the stadium site is not said and done. The locals have continued to protest, and it’s understandable why. This is not the first time locals have prevented a sports stadium from getting built.
In Henderson County they just spent 6.9 mill on a football stadium instead of the schools who barely have enough money to pay their staff.
Well said
On top of that, the new stadium was built less than 100 feet from the old dome. You can see it in the thumbnail and at 3:41
Drew P they're gonna use it as a parking lot for the new one.
James Burgess It was built with hotel tax money, which means Atlanta citizens didn't technically pay for it
Demonta Barrino either way, that money was going to the city and could've been used on much better stuff to get a stable economic return.
We won't see that money come back into our city for the next 10 or 15 years.
please put a pop filter over the mic

Neptune Consus actually private health care would be even better if it wasn't for government regulations
Superlumer 88 you’re an idiot
ThisguyQuake please explain how you have a free market in healthcare. The way it is with insurance companies is :
1) I don't know what I'm paying until I get it
2) I'm paying with someone else's money
3) I have boatloads of paperwork and overhead in the insurance companies.
Its as if Rome has returned.
taxpayer's money is also paying their ludicrous salaries.
Take that 7B away from the NFL, apply it to the infrastructure, and we start dealing with the problem our aging infrastructure is.
Creepy Stares then what will people do for outlets

Archit Bhonsle I agree, the voice is really strange and the audio is terrible

the voice is strange
Archit Bhonsle yeah, she's everywhere
Politics and sports should be separate. This is the evidence they're not.
D: so our tax money goes to a stadium and we don't get to go and watch for free?
Ooo public funded stadium, so the tickets are free right?
Chris Toh yeah cause the 800,000 employees don’t need to be paid

To say that a new stadium, or any stadium for that matter, will bring new money into the community is ridiculous. Take Dallas for instance. For that to be true, a very large number of fans who buy seats and attend games have to come from outside the Dallas Ft. Worth area for that to be true. Otherwise, the money spent at the stadium buy residents of the area is money that would have been spent elsewhere in the community if the team was not there. It's not new or outside money.
Not even the olympics can make that work. Which I think Vox have done a video on before.
So glad I live in San Diego where we gave the Chargers a giant middle finger when they wanted us to pay for a new stadium.
Yeah as a person from San Diego I laughed when the chargers had one of their first game and there were more dolphins fans than chargers fans in the stadium 😂
As a Saints fan from New Orleans, that opening clip hurt, I'm offended😂
Stupid peasants like worshiping stronger, wealthier people. Then they wonder why they are poor...
Well, the players are wealthy because people enjoy watching them.
Thank you for helping to bring this to public awareness.
I haven't watched a football game in years I would hate to have a stadium near me
So my taxes are going to football stadiums? That sucks...
Because we worship sports. It's a great way to avoid the realities of life. Double edged sword.
CyclingSJH No Everybody, including me.
Not double edge. Just one: retardation of the sort a child can understand.
Sports are for people who like taking it in the ass by society and need a place to take their anger out by watching monkeys collide against each other while throwing around an object.
Galvahnize
Sports DO NOT unify the world, at least not in any good way (if we were to name something like the Olympics). What you're describing is just a mutual activity you share with friends while hanging out. Nothing wrong with that but also completely irrelevant and nothing to do with the bigger picture.
@ CoffeeMed: No, it’s not a double edged sword. I love my sports, but the people don’t have to be stupid about it.
The realities of life... Nfl is a waste of a good life, try going outside and do outdoor activities rather spend all your time and money watching this garbage
This is why I love the Packers. They’re publicly owned, non profit, and they’ll never move out of Green Bay.
The "publicly owned" thing is largely a misnomer.
And players will move out of green play and play for a better team and make way more money
I'M PAYING TAXES FOR THIS BUT STILL HAVE TO PLAY FROGGER: POTHOLE EDITION ON OUR HIGHWAY SYSTEM!!! DAFUQ!!!
To have a nice floor and to waste.
I mean, what's wrong with the old one? There is a thing called UPGRADE
because our society has its priorities completely backwards.

Wait taxpayers pay for football I don’t even like football and I have to pay for it
I appreciate you showing the Minneapolis miracle it meant a lot to me
And all these city's have BIG HOMLESS PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!
In Minnesota’s defense, the Metrodome which is what we just replaced was having costly repairs being needed for the roof as it kept breaking due to heavy snow buildup. That and there were also safety concerns iirc and those two issues culminated in needing a replacement stadium.
1:18
Did anyone take a look at this?
Never since the Cowboys the NFL has been using more private money then public money. While the public may have increased, it's not a billion dollar spike on the public it's a billion dollars spike for private.
Yeah, if you imagine a trendline for public spending it's basically static.
If you pause at 1:18, you can see some of the least expensive stadiums have the highest percentage of public funding.
Reminds one of the time the owner took his NFL team out of one city in the middle of the night. The owner of a NFL team got a major wake-up call from the company that owns the stadium last year, causing the team owner to change plans about moving his team.
Not even a play from the Super Bowl. 🤦🏻♂️

This is why I stopped paying taxes and will never pay again.
Why the Pentagon lost TRILLIONS of dollars?
Probably some off book Darpa projects tbh
am I the only one who watches the Superbowl only for the half-time shows?
The real question is why do quarterbacks always win Super Bowl MVP ?
I know this is a serious video but thank you for the intro the best one I’ve ever seen
I live in a football city and I hate that the stadium is publicly funded. When everything is all payed off and our taxes are about to go back down the politicians and other city management always get together and try and keep the tax so it can be used for something else. Fact is we should have never had it in the first place.
Just throwing this out there, but which Stadiums ARE making a positive economic impact on their local economies, and what are they doing differently?
The superdome in New Orleans was just renovated in 2006, $234 in 2017 dollars, im not sure if private/public. Wrestlemania gave an economic impact to the area of $181 million to the prevous year's town (Orlando citrus bowl). Assuming at least the same. That would mean the renovations would almost have been "paid" for with 1 10 day event. Not just NFL/ sports use these stadiums, Concerts/Live events use them to. If just NFL games were played at these stadiums it would be horrible since it would only be used 8ish days out of the year.
*i wanna see a that 7 billion move into making more electric teslas instead*
If they are so good why don't the build them in touch areas like Beverley hills and Bergen county?
marc07112 because parking space is needed, people in those neighborhoods wouldn't want that many people flooding in, they arent ideal locations to fill the seats, and those are less likely to give the economy any type of boom than if it was in a less residential down town area.
Maybe people should pride themselves on things that matter, and not what group of sweaty men can run and catch a ball better.

how many millions of dollars does the nfl get in tax breaks
Except Green Bay
You sure? I thought I remembered something about a room tax or something. I could be wrong. All I really know is that the traffic on Ridge road is annoying on game days. Lol.
Sir Longassname: I think he means the Packers can't be traded or threaten to move. They're owned by the city of Green Bay.
You are correct, taxpayers paid for a little over half the cost of renovations to Lambeau in 2003, but because the team has shareholders and not owners, the team sells stock to help pay for renovations. Since 2010, major renovations to the atrium and nearby complex have used $0 in taxpayer funds.
lol are you blind? This video just showed a graph of public money spent on stadiums including Green Bay.
Same thing with the Olympics.
