    This is honestly the best tutorial ive found on this song. He's really straightforward and takes time to explain. Im just having difficulty with turning the E to a C ;(((

    • @JustinRothberg
      @JustinRothberg  3 роки тому +44

      thanks so much! take your time with the tuning. start by going to a D then go to C. if you're doing it by ear then match to the open D string. If youre doing it with a tuner then do it with slow turns. Let the tuner register what pitch it is before going lower

    • @Purplesome_
      @Purplesome_ Рік тому +1

      I didn't have a tuner which tuned to notes other than E, A, G and D so I just put the capo on the first fret, tuned to an E, then moved it up to the second, did that again, and continued until the 4th fret. When you take the capo off, the note will be a C.

    This part is mainly for myself
    If you use guitar tuna, you can tune the Low E to a C by having it register as -20
    Normal fingerpicking pattern (pattern Ax3 + pattern b) 3 times
    Then play bridge
    Normal fingerpicking pattern
    Altered finger picking(bx3 then the beginning of the b +beginning of strumming)
    Then start strumming (run through the pattern 3 times, on the 4th times play the 3rd cord twice instead of once)
    Hits
    Picking pattern - thumb, first, middle, first
    7:58 beginning of strumming bit
    10:43 2nd strumming bit (first 2 chords)
    11:22 next 2 chords
    12:02 strumming pattern

    i know a lot of other people have said this already, but i wanted to drop down my fair share of thanks as well!! :)
    i just got my first guitar, and after having played ukulele for a year, it's similar, yet very different at the same time. i was having trouble finding a good tab for this song with a correct plucking pattern so i looked it up and made my way to your tutorial. since then, i've already watched a handful of your other wilbur soot guitar tutorials, and i'm learning from all of them, not just how to play the song, but also things such as how to read hammer-downs on tableture.
    your content is great, your explanation in your videos is always so clear and you are clearly a talented guitarist and musician.
    thanks so much for your videos!!

    I couldn't find this anywhere in the comments so here is everything after the fingerpicking in one place
    CADGBE Tuning
    When the Strumming starts: (8:00)
    C6 X D4 G B X (6x400x) DUDUDUDU
    C5 X D3 G B X (5x300x) DUDUDUDU
    - - -
    The Full-On Strumming Part (10:39)
    (An optional final up helps string the chords together, might be a bit more difficult)
    C9 X D G B X (9x000x) D DU UD
    X A D G B X (x0000x) D DU UD
    ,---> C A6 D4 G B X (06400x) DUDUDUDU
    | C A5 D3 G B X (05300x) DUDUDUDU
    |
    (13:32) 4th Time stays on 3rd chord for the stops
    C9 X D G B X (9x000x) DUD -stop-
    X A D G B X (x0000x) DUD -stop-
    Then it goes to the 3rd and 4th chords

      I was in choir for 7 years so I know my way around basic sheet music. I got my guitar like a week ago and I've been slowly learning. If I could pitch in a request, either I Am Very Smart (Wilbur) or Alligator Skin Boots (McCafferty). Whichever you'd be cooler with. If not, thats fine, I understand. hey, before anything thank you so much for these videos you inspired me to pick back up my guitar after 6 years, anyways could you explain what’s different between these clip capos and the ones with the cloth piece? Also do you have any tabs for this? All the other tabs on the song are compelitely off from the original song and it’s quite hard lol

    • @JustinRothberg
      @JustinRothberg  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks so much for the kind words!
      The only difference is you can adjust the pressure. It keeps it in tune better. I don’t have tabs. I may do it at some point if there’s demand.

      Alternatively this video does an easier strumming part you could substitute: ua-cam.com/video/OqxlrZhuJI8/v-deo.html (at around 3:26)
