I’m 43 and definitely noticed a big change in myself when I hit 40. Night sweats, hot flashes, body aches and pains, anxiety and depression has increased like crazy. I downloaded an app called “Moody” to track my cycle. Now I have direct evidence that my periods are off. I go from, 27 days, to 34, to 29 days in between cycles. They’re all over the place. I notice I’m dribbling more as well when I really have to go. The urgency is intense. I find more these days I just want to be at home or close to home. Being social doesn’t interest me in the slightest anymore. I’m adjusting but was a bit like hitting a wall. My whole self has completely changed. Oh!!! And another thing! It’s like I’ve developed ADHD…. my brain is all over the place. Racing thoughts, forgetfulness, scattered. This is a real trip!

@missee7951 Well, I would like to add to your comment describing problems of my own,but you just described me in a nutshell! I asked my grandmother when she was still with us if she ever got herself back....I think you know what I mean by this. And she said she didn't want to be so gloom and doom and try to remember that everyone's different, but she looked at me and just slowly knodded
'no' then she said 'no,no I didn't hun,but we're all different. Remember that and it has not left me.

Thank you for these videos. It’s why I pushed my doctor to test my hormone levels at 46 when she tried suggesting that I have PCOS. I said that I think I’m just in perimenopause and wanted my hormones checked. After an ultrasound and blood work was told “you don’t have PCOS, ovarian cancer (family history of it) or endometrial cancer. You are in perimenopause”. Never thought that would be such good news!

Hi @kariAnneWright , I'm 53 in March, I had both my ovaries and my fallopian tubes taken out due to a cyst 3 years ago, I was put on femoston conti which helped, it says on the information pack that you will expect a small bleed at the end of each month which I do, so its hard to say if I am end of peri ot not. Very confusing for me,love some info on this and love your vloggs kari ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Perimenopause was not hard for me. Of course I had hot flashes the night sweats, the proverbial tire around the belly, absent memory etc. But the worst year was the one right as I was transitioning into menopause. Absolutely downright horrible. I went from semi-healthy to falling apart.
It seems like I caught everything under the sun, UTIs, flus colds, etc. Etc. Sugar was out of whack, allergies to things I could normally eat, dehydration set in the night sweats that I could usually bear became unbearable. I walked around like a furnace even when I wasn't experiencing hot flashes. The crying, the agony, the despair. The stiffness in my joints I had never experienced before ever. I ached even before getting out of bed. A couple times I wished for death.

Me too, well mostly all the symptoms. 41 here and just really realized in the last year that the crazy things I have been experiencing in the last few years have likely been the beginning of peri menopause. The only symptom I don't have is the months between skipped periods. My periods will come a week early or a week late and have changed, first much heavier and now barely there but they always come. Which is likely the biggest indicator things are coming to a close so I probably still have a ways to go unfortunately. The hope I cling to is my mom was through menopause by 43 years old so I am hoping I will follow in her foot steps.

Exact same for me. I'm 51 and will be 52 March 2024. I had no period February 2023 then it came back and then Nov, December of 2023 and Jan 2024 no period.
But February 2024 started period again and its heavy. I did notice though, that when I started my period, I felt good like my old self.
I used to think no period wouldbr awesome until I got all the symptoms that came with no period.
So for me I prefer having my period. I know its ending but I feel normal on my period.
I always thought I couldnt wait for my period to stop until it did for 3 months and all the scary symptoms started.
I'd rather have my period then get all those symptoms back.
I'm having genetic testing done March 4th to check if I have cancer Gene's. If I dont I'm starting HRT my endocrinologist prescribed be bioidentical hormones progesterone and estradiol. Anything to keep me feeling as human as possible because when my cycle stopped for 3 months, I was anxiety, nauseous, migraines, ringing ears, dizzy, hot, crying, depressed, sad, scared, feeling faint, thought I was dying.
No periods is not just hot flashes. Its HELL!

My gyn didn’t know a thing about perimenopause, she told me at 42 or 43 that I was too young for menopause. Fast forward almost two years. I skipped a few periods and went to a different provider who has a lot of experience with perimenopause and when she checked my hormone levels my progesterone was low and she also did not dismiss me. She talked honestly with me about perimenopause and told me 51 is the average age for menopause, but that perimenopause happens several years before and while I was still a little young in her eyes, she decided she would allow me to try HRT anyway and test a lot of different hormones and when we got my results back it was noted the my progesterone level was consistent with perimenopause. So if doctors are being educated about perimenopause then we need to find providers that have a lot of experience and are pretty educated

Out shopping recently my hubby turned around in the sock aisle to find I had stripped off my jacket and my shoes and was standing barefoot on the nice cool floor - I used to think I would be one of those women who wouldn't let on the I was cooking from the inside, but it turns out I would rather cool off than suffer a melt-down. Yes, people tend to notice when they are all rugged up and you are wandering around in your T-shirt for half an hour while you wait to cool down again.
thankfully, after the extreme hot flashes came back with a bang after disappearing for 5 blissful months, they seem to have mostly settled down again, I am still having to strip off my cardigan periodically, but its not 9 times in a few hours any more, and they are not so intense.
Thanks for these video's, they are super educational and very entertaining.

For all the ladies with brain fog. What really helped me was taking Methylene blue and reducing sugar and even eliminating it (just eating natural sugar in fruit).
Eating lots of grass fed beef (greater protein intake).
The aches and pain were eliminated by taking fish oil and getting deep chiropractic adjustments.
Night sweats and hot flashes greatly reduced and sometimes eliminated by taking rhubarb supplement and black cohosh.
For anxiety and stress I take Ashwaghanda, Stress gummies from Hylands (has lemon balm and other herbs), Magnesium and Vitamin B complex.
It’s a lot, but because I’m a single mom going through a lot of stress at work, I need to take supplements else I wouldn’t sleep and function.

The heart palpitations also sent me to a doctor because I didn't know what was going on. My periods are still coming every month as well but I have switched from heavier than normal periods and them coming up to a week late to barely there periods and them coming up to a week early. My periods before that started to become a little sporadic, nothing too bad though but now I'm skipping a month, sometimes 2. My mother went into menopause in her late 40's so I had a feeling I was headed in that direction but having that surgery seems to have propelled it even more. My mom passed in 04 unfortunately and while she did educate a lot, particularly on the cold sweats/hot flashes, there's a lot I don't know about so I'm very thankful for your videos

She told me me to ask anything. She wasn't menopausal until 58! And she was 65 when I talked to her about it. She said my paternal grandmother was 60! So me being 45 was young. Turns out my six younger sisters are all on my schedule. I'm the go to person.

Never had I ever expected such a tough go (painful feet, nerve zaps, feeling like I had a UTI or the flu and didn’t, joint pain, worsening urgency incontinence, headaches (I never get them, until now), insomnia, low grade heat turning into a fire, blurry vision, decreased spatial relations, vision changes, dry eyes……They down played menopause in my Psychology of Women class in my 20’s. Hey, your video 12 Things That Hurt in perimenopause was an eye opener for me. When I crossed 40, I started having health issues. I have been a healthy person and did not realize how they occurred suddenly in my life. I kept wondering what happened to me. What was wrong with me. Why do I have throbbing, why am I having muscle pain, hip pain, wrist pain and all sorts of pain that your described. The foot pain you describe is so appropriately described. But since I saw your video, I am at great peace with myself. I know that these pains have a logical explanation and they are not imaginary. I had expected to hear this from a doctor. But now that I know that I know why they are there, I can console myself that they are part of the journey. I would thank you for this information demonstrated in such light way 🙂

At 47 (57 now) my periods were shorter (3 day cycle) and pretty much continued that way every month in or around the same time but sometimes shorter (i.e. a 21 day cycle as opposed to 28). I would have a warning day where there would be spotting or very light period (which I didn’t count as Day 1) followed by a heavy flow which lasted a day, and then a light period on Day 2 and 3. Within the last year, I skipped a month here and there. 3 and a half months is the longest so far without a period. My younger sister who is 55, had something similar where it was 4 months without periods and now it is 6 months. She might have reached menopause by now. She’s fine with it, she said, as she was spending a lot of time on the beach and getting her period would have been a bit of an inconvenience.
Age of menopause onset is not always genetic. Having children and especially later in life (in my case a child), being on the pill for extended periods, and being a non-smoker affect cycle length. Diet also plays a role. Fatty fish was part of my diet for years.

Hi Kari, so glad to have found your channel today! I am 52 and as well are so much yearning already for this "tunnel of horror" to end. That I went through on a rollercoaster and it got worse and worse. I have developed all the symptoms possible so far plus a really insanely painful period, that stayed in its "occurance" like this even after hysterectomy one year ago, done out of desperation. One third of the month I have been lying in bed practically during the last years. That has cost me my working ability, I am being preretired now. I cant take hormones bc I had breast cancer as well some years ago. My intake of painkillers has skyrocketed and that sucks, bc I never liked allopathy all too much. But herbs alone dont do the job anymore, and I have spent fortunes on them. Up to now, my "ghost period", as I call it meanwhile, has not skipped once yet, which sucks as well, but your video gives me great hope. I tick all the boxes when it comes to your 8 signs, except of sleep is still pretty good, God bless. Dont understand me wrong, no one should suffer like this, but it still did me good when I read the comments here, they showed me that I am not just hysterical or hypochondric. Or abnormal. Unluckily, in my surroundings, no one seemed to have such severe problems. The women of my age or older cant relate so much to my story and tell me that for them all this is just not so great of a deal. The lucky ones! They seem a little uncomfortable to speak about menopause in general, it is still a bit of a taboo topic. Strange, given the modern times we live in. I live in the middle of Europe. Maybe in other countries its different. I hold thumbs for everyone of us who has it so hard with that special time in a womans life. May we find support, strenght, courage, perseverance always and finally relief. Take good care you all-Love, Bernadette ❤

I'm looking back and remembering going through these things starting circa 2007. I had no idea what was happening, so I did the wrong things to stay awake so I could get through work without falling asleep: Very strong, very sweet coffee and constant candy. With no advice that was my only choice, but I think I did damage to my system.
I finally had my last period in 2018. It was a month long, and I called a doctor in the end, too. I was told that was probably what it was. They were right. I don't have the kind of mother or relatives to talk to about it with. Your videos are very comforting. Thank you.🌷

I remember reading years ago that if one has severe menstrual issues as a teenager then in adulthood during perimenopause the periods will be lighter. I do believe this is true because when I was a teen I was often hospitalized for severe cramping and bleeding. I am in late stages of perimenopause. When I used to have a period it was a nuisance but nothing like my teen years. I have a friend who experienced the opposite...her teen years were easy but her perimenopause were painful periods.
I have found that drinking apple cider vinegar with the mother and water takes away hot flashes when I used to get them. Now I am cold more often than hot..i live in the south. Strange. ACV alkalines the body sooo eating or drinking anything that does the same thing is good for stopping a hot flash. I also noticed that when I eat too much sugar or caffeine it aggravates the hot flashes when I was getting hot flashes.

These symptoms are me in a nutshell. I am now going months in between periods and they are the worst I have ever had. The last one lasted twice as long as my normal ones used to and it was worse than when I had miscarriages in my twenties. The cramping and heaviness plus add in clots that are extremely concerning as well have left me with a referral to a GYN for a possible hysterectomy with added issues of cysts becoming larger and worse than when I used to get them in my younger years also. Ten years does seem about right as mine started when I was 40 and I'm now 50. I will say this, when you go a few months with no period and think is this finally the 12-month stretch and then it shows up, damn does that lead to a major mood swing. 😂

Started missing the occasional period about 5-6 years ago. About 4-5 years ago I started noticing pain and trigger finger like symptoms in my hands. They have become weaker since. About 4 years ago, I started noticing I would forget basic words in mid sentence occasionally, then it got noticeably worse over a year to the point of my husband asking me if I was ok. About a year and a half ago I started having hot flashes which has graduated to being cold shortly after. I have had some of the dryness you speak of which makes intimacy trickier. All of those symptoms have gradually increased in frequency and severity. For a time I was wondering if Covid was affecting me based on some of my symptoms (symptoms were becoming consistent around the time Covid hit). I'm now 7 months since my last period, so I believe menopause is around the corner.
I'm desperately hoping the pain in my hands will ease up, because I struggle to close my hands all the way.

Thank you for these videos! This is the 2nd one I've watched. I just made a doctor's appointment for next week. I'm 53. No period for nearly 6 months! Also, wondering if anyone else is noticing these: 1. my skin bruises more easily, even after what seems like just a little tap. 2. face is breaking out. Ugh!! I had acne in my teens up to my mid 20's. This is really annoying because my skin was clear for quite a while. Now I get a new breakout on my face every few days! and 3. Canker Sores on the inside of my cheeks, and now one on my tongue! I HARDLY ever had this before!! I expected occasional Hot Flashes, Night Sweats, Mood Changes, more difficult to maintain my weight/weight gain and occasional aches and pains. My Mother experienced all of those. But the other ones I listed above are not only unexpected, they REALLY bother me. I hope the doctor can help!! Any comments or advice appreciated. Thanks!!
