- Dak Prescott can now grip the football and will begin throwing today. The quarterback has not played or practiced since injuring his thumb in Week 1. Cooper Rush is 4-0 since stepping in for Dak as the starting quarterback, and the Dallas Cowboys head to Philadelphia to take on the undefeated Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate on whether Dak should start in Week 6 if Dak proves to the coaching staff this week that he is 100 percent able to throw the football.

With Dak playing, the Cowboys have no identity and they try to sling the ball like they're the Bills or Chiefs when in reality they should be running the ball as heavily as they are right now with Cooper Rush. At the end of the day I always thought it was about winning, not putting up empty passing yards in an L.

The best thing for the Cowboys is run the ball and control the clock. Keep that dynamic defense fresh because if they don't and the defense gets tired it's over regardless of who the QB is.

@@johnet22 Hostetler was THE definition of a "game manager". A career long back up, painful to watch. It felt like he was sacked each time he dropped to pass, or knocked down, or hurried. He made sure he got touched each play by holding onto the ball as long he could.
Anyway, he was efficient enough to get starting jobs after the Simms injury. Respect for that.
Either way, Rush has MORE attempts (including the 16 last Sunday which drastically dropped his average) per game than Hostetler when each QBs were starting.

Rush may be a “game manager” but the fact is the whole team has been playing different since he came in. He executes the game plan, keeps the offense on the field long enough to give the defense time to rest and he’s come in clutch the couple times he’s had to. He’s no where near the athlete Dak was before his 2020 injury but he seems to make better reads than Dak and he can make certain throws that Dak can’t/won’t. All of this is subject to change over time but right now it is what it is.

You still need to be able to pass the ball. The eagles have the talent to not only load the box but also cover very well with slay and bradberry on the outside. Linebackers are solid in coverage as well. What happens when the run game isn't working and they're forced to throw it 30+ times

I think that Rush should continue to start since the wins have been great for the team. Others think about it in terms of Dak losing his starting position. If he loses his position then that’s what it is. Rush is obviously doing well so why make another change and revert back to the frustration the team has already been through with Dak? First is maybe we've just all learned that dumbing down the offense makes it more effective and less error prone, and if that's the case you would want Dak in that offense because he's just got more talent or at least as much. Secondly, no one is going to want to pickup Dak's huge contact in the event he loses his job to Rush.
I like Cooper Rush but he does leave to many points on the field and the Defense is bound to have an off game.

I think player competition is a healthy thing and since Cooper rush is doing well so far, i think Dak Prescott should have to earn the starting position back, not just given to him.
