I invited on 3 graduates from the coding bootcamp, General Assembly, to share their experiences with the program. All 3 graduates ended up having pretty different experiences with different parts of the program. We definitely dove deep into the pros and cons of the curriculum, instructors, projects, and outcomes. Given that General Assembly has no previous data with Cirr.org, DEFINITELY challenge the self-claimed outcomes. If admissions can't handle you digging into the details of criteria that would exclude students from their self-claimed outcome data, that should be a red flag. For all prospective students, I hope this helps with your decision!
    Topics:
    0:00 - Intros and backgrounds
4:36 - Why did you choose General Assembly over other coding bootcamps?
8:14 - What’d you think of the coding bootcamp? (The good and the bad)
23:29 - Instructors and final projects
40:30 - How was their outcomes program (career services)?

I just finished GA’s Software Engineering Immersive on 2/4/22.
My cohort was sponsored by a company with specific requirements. We did JavaScript, Java/Spring , and Angular/TypeScript.
    My three instructors were awesome.
They never checked out or disengaged.
I found the homework very helpful for both muscle-memory and depth.
My cohort did touch on basic testing.
I’d do it again, even if I had to pay for it myself.

I'm nearing the end of my GA immersive course in about 3 weeks. I had one instructor and TA the whole course( A different TA for weekend help if anyone needs it). My cohort was a lot smaller than these ones. We started with around 15 students, and 3 of them have dropped. We did the python / django course for about two - three weeks. My biggest recommendation for them would be to just get rid of that and really work on solidifying the students full-stack knowledge using node and express. Other than that, I have no real complaints. I still think it's kinda pricey for a 3 month long course. My instructor was incredible though, insanely knowledgeable with just about everything and a great teacher. He's been with them for 7 years now so he's probably one of their most tenured. I would imagine most peoples experiences are highly based around the quality of their instructors. I agree the mid week outcomes feel like a very awkward insertion, but at the same time I do feel like I've gained useful knowledge from the meetings. I have already created a portfolio and started applying, and just had my first interview today.

Right now I'm planning to go to a bootcamp at the end of the month (App academy). My three options were General Assembly, Flatiron and App academy. Flatiron got discarded for me based on the fact that they removed the deferred tuition AND the interview you made with their students, seemed like they changed instructors too much. As for General assembly, I passed because of the 90% outcome response they gave me from 2019 and them not having more updated data. That was kind of a red flag. Plus the exercises to get accepted were middle school level. too easy.
That left me with App academy, their acceptance prep work and challenges at least had some difficulty to them. Unlike the other two bootcamps, they focus only on coding and I contacted some students who graduated there and they agreed that should they go through it again, they would choose App academy again.

I would say that with General Assembly, after your boot-camp, your pretty much on the job hunt yourself. But you have access to your career coach whenever to talk about any advice or tips. Thnking about applying to the GA bootcamp in early august. How was the environment of online courses? Ive been through 4 years of college and 4 years of graduate school in a different field. Never had an online curriculum. Is it easier/harder to work with others since its online? Just worried about the social/interactive aspect of an online course. Any information I would appreciate. thanks!

Every bootcamp should have a 2-4 week intro class. At the end they should ask, did you enjoy this. Do you look forward to programming. Do you think about it everyday and look forward to doing it after work or family duties. No? Okay this is not for you. Try something else.
