I have a Sansa Clip mp3 player that has been playing nonstop since the end of 2008. When we got a new phone system at work, they wanted to charge us $250 for a device to play the hold music. I said, I'll just buy a cheap mp3 player. The thing was literally $35 if I remember correctly and when we got rid of the phone system I kept it playing just to see how long it goes. It's still going now in 2024.

My oldest most reliable device is my stainless steel Rolex. It’s been every where. Doesn’t require batteries. I’ve had it serviced maybe twice since I owned it (probably before DMX was born). It’s got a few nicks on it but n all probability it will outlive me and become a heirloom.

The oldest tech thing I use everyday is my really old nicked marbled headband HD600s. I have "better" headphones but if something sounds weird or off I can plug those in and tell what is happening straight away.

Same same, they were dirt cheap too since they were pre-beat up. I use the Sundaras for more critical listening, 600 for the desk for UA-cam etc.. but man, in the grand scene of headphones the 600's aren't far behind.

Tiny upgrade I would recommend is to replace the mouse skates on that Logitech. Especially if you've been using it for years, the upgraded glide will make a world of difference and save your wrist a bit of stress on those long sessions. I believe a company called corepad makes ones specifically for that model.

The oldest tech I still use is probably my old DSLR that I've had since 2011, my Kobo Touch which has outlasted newer devices, and my Sony MDR-1Rs which are heavily used and I even had to superglue the headband back together, but they were the first "real" pair of headphones I owned and I still love how they sound.

enjoyed the gadget durability overview also because it's a nice way to see new stuff I might not be aware of.
Props for the stellar 'loud voice' coming up, for those who went ahead and cranked the pot up to really get in on how silent the keyboard is. top human stuff mate.
on the wallet thing, you could have used a Blockbuster card or anything from the distant past though :D
eta: of course I paused the video and commented right before your ask.
I guess my oldest 'gadget' is my 1990 KLE 500 still going strong and having had very, very little maintenance other than oil and pad changes.
Other than that, I guess the most impressive is my 19" Samsung 901n 4:3 from 2006 (?) is still running smooth, and I've actually given up waiting for it to die and be replaced by something wider, but then again, I've grown to enjoy having that little square in the corner of my desk. my beyer 880s continue to not cause me even the tiniest of discomfort with their highs, a pair of cans which share my listening hours the most with the 58x, both highly complementing one another.
    amicable greetings, D!

My Yamaha rx A730 from 2013 still rocking my living room. However pound for pound I’m most impressed with my slightly modified Status Audio OB1 headphones. I replaced the original fabric(velour I think)pads with Brainwaves fake leather pads which tightened up the bass some and boosts clarity without being bright or boomy. They are studio open-backs so very neutral to begin with. When I pair them with my Alex Cavelli designed Monolith Liquid Spark DAC and Liquid Spark amp these cans perform like what I would expect very high end headphones to sound like. The Liquid Spark combo does a remarkable job of making budget priced cans sound upscale. The OB1s seem to be the perfect match. I don’t own any uber high end gear however I do have the Drop/Sennheiser HD 6XX, 599 & 558, Byerdynamic DT990, HiFiMann HE400i, Philips Fidelio F3, Monolith M650, among others and the Drop Cavelli tube hybrid amp w/ Schiit Modi 3 DAC and various lesser DAC/amps.

Ipod Video - 5.5 generation - 80GB model from I think 2006! It has the gorgeous Wolfson 24-bit DAC and is regarded as the best-sounding Ipod. I almost never used it with the stock firmware but with Rockbox instead. This unlocks a very powerful EQ and removes the need of Itunes for uploading files onto it. Rockbox just works with folders and sub-folders inside the Ipod without a problem. I love playing music from it instead of my phone as it's reliable and frees up my phone, especially at a party with other people. The battery would last days so I never think about it. I've had around 4 such devices with batteries replaced. These are cheap and available on eBay in mint condition. Compared to Android phones, I love on the Rockbox Ipod the UI, tactile buttons and ease of creating dynamic playlists on the fly.

A scuffed up old HD600 I got for 175. I usually use my sundaras for music listening, but that 600 ain't going anywhere. Little else will last that long and stay good. I do use an old Canon 5D digital camera from 2005, and it still makes amazing 13mp images from it's huge sensor. I use a garmin instinct, they make the best build quality smart watches (as in, lasts) and casios for dumb watches. Very little of my kitchenware is new, oldest is a stand mixer from 39, though the cast iron might age it out - who can tell with those things.
My keyboard is significantly older, a ps/2 1987 Model M.

I have a sharper image digital clock that I got as a hand me down in 2006 and it's still chugging, with Duracell batteries that expired in 2008. I plan on keeping it forever. My mom's PC has a Q9650 from 2008 and it's still pretty respectable, it does what she wants it to do without any real sluggishness. My PC has a 4790K that has been overclocked its entire life and it's still serving me just fine. I even built a 7950X/4090 rig in 2022 and I ended up going back to my 4790K because that rig gave me so many problems but the i7 just works, like an old Lexus.

My Galaxy S7 is also worth mentioning, I kept it for 5 years before replacing it due to terrible battery life and sluggishness, especially when using maps. Other than that, it was solid and it is to date the best phone I've ever had. The fingerprint sensor cracked & chipped but it still worked, no recalibration required. On the other hand, my Xperia 1 III (that was double the price) has a fingerprint sensor that malfunctioned after 2 years. I have to restart it everyday to keep the sensor working. The battery has degraded faster than the S7 too, despite babying it way more.

Idk if this is outside the scope of this channel but Zebralights. They make incredible headlamps that are bright, water proof, efficient, run on 18650 Lithium ion batteries, and most importantly are absolutely bombproof. As someone who's gotten into cave exploration I literally trust my life to these headlamps. To be clear, Zebralights are overkill for most people and are on the pricy side ($60-100). But if you want a headlamp that you can buy once that takes universal, cheap, rechargable batteries and will probably last longer than you will; Zebralights are incredible. But yeah, in terms of tech products that are built to last these are the gold standard.
P.S. Picked up the Samsung Meteor Mic based off your recommendation a while back and have been really happy with it just as a general purpose zoom/gaming mic. Thanks for the help.

Nothing ear 2 is easily to get stolen (for obvious reason). But it sounds good. The battery is abysmal, voice cancel worse than some iem without battery.
    But still. It sounds good.

I got the topping d10s dac connected to my samsung one connect box, the schitt hel 2 connected to the samsung one connected box and my yamaha hs50m studio monitors with all the knobs set to flat while my hd 600 the original marble version connected to the front. My tv is the 65 inch samsung curve qled 4k tv and the tv is set to pcm for 2 channel home stereo with my sony 4k blu ray player connected to the samsung one connect box. I'm looking for a deal to upgrade to the oppo udp-205 4k blu ray player, I wish oppo still made blu ray players and implemented there hifi experience on there android phones. I don't know if sony will make a new 4k blu ray player and implement audeze sound signature features on the 4k player since they acquired audeze awhile ago.

Personally I never buy a thing that I don't think gonna last, some examples would be: Beyerdynamic DT1990 pro, Zendac V2, Samsung A71, Galaxy buds 2 pro, Hwawei band 7, wired Xbox controller...etc. For me the durability is a key

Wireless earbuds : Trust me when I say this: Get the Oppo Enco X2. For audio quality they're very good, especially when tunned via an external EQ (like Poweramp equalizer). ANC and battery life are good but what interests me: sound quality, is very good, especially for wireless earbuds

IMO battery powered only gear isn't the best example for durability/ longevity. No matter how good it is. Unless there's an easy way to swap batterys and they are easily accessible/ bought. (and recycled by the way)

So tough, the oneplus buds pro 2 win on comfort for sure (and mic quality app-depending). The nothing ear 2 do sound better imo (especially with the amount of control the EQ has).

Ear (2) is a relatively new product. The fact that it looks like an old product show it actually doesn't last long, at least in terms of looks. Transparent plastic is no that durable, I bet a Buds 2 Pro would've held up much better.
