The kato still is my favorite till this day even though i have more expensive iems and headphones it has the most hrs on them
Kato was one of my first "good" IEMs and I still have my pair, however since I have tried more expensive and other IEMs I always notice the slightly metallic timbre and somewhat shouty midrange paired with the elevated ("bloated") lower midrange and I can't really enjoy them like I used to when I got them years ago. I prefer the Truthear Red nowadays when it comes to Dynamic Driver IEMs even though it is not as detailed as the Kato.
@@rene837 well i should have said the Kato is the best daily driver its resolution build and relatively good on almost all music genres. imo the a5000 from final is objectively better and my mk3 too but i have to baby the mk3 and the a5000 isn't as good in games, for my use case the Kato is the best rounded iem i own along side the final audio make2 but i usually tinker with it more than i listen to it
@volvvix All good m8, you can enjoy what you want to, I won't discredit you for liking the Kato, I just wanted to give my take on it as well for people who might consider still buying it today. I also have made bad experiences with moondrops build quality on the Kato (loosening 2-pin connectors over time until the right one died). At least moondrop sent a replacement free of charge because I was still under warranty, but I still am weary of their QC/BQ because of that experience.
@@rene837 i think all 2-pin connectors will loosen over time, this is unavoidable. moondrop is known for crappy QC/BQ, but the Kato seems to be one of the best to come from them.
@@rene837 timbre, eargain, and midbass are all design choices to make, rather than "faults". a lot of people who mostly listen to pop ballads and male vocals would prefer the midbass to not have a harman-like scoop, but rather a slope, like Kato's (and most other single DDs).
I still love the P1 Max. It was the first planar to not overdo the treble energy and is closer to modern planar tuning than any of its competitors from the time (note that unlike the S12 and S12 clones, there is not a big 11k spike). The NiceHCK F1 Pro and Hidizs MP145 are minor variations on the P1 Max’s tuning. I’m this regard I think it was actually ahead of its time.
FYI, the P1 Max was recently discontinued and is being replaced by the P1 Max II.
Yes i also think it's different from the majority. And good. But opinions are just that. Each one with their own.
I've listened to a good bunch of planar iem's and the P1 Max is still my favourite, the S12 makes your ears bleed, it was way ahead of time with the tuning it went for.
I think the P1 Max is one of the most tonally balanced IEMs there is. With that said it also depends what kind of source you're using. It sounds really good on slightly warm sources that uses the Cirrus logic for example and it could sounds a bit too shouty if you're using AKM sources for example.
yea I'm surprised he's not at least recommend something more neutral or flat but straight up S12 which was clearly different tuning
@@devaraft Same here but I've noticed that those who like Kpop or Jpop especially with the female singers do like their vocals to be very forward though.
For a genuine "old & legendary" iem, review the Sony XBA-N3, it is still competitive today at its original price.
It’s exceptional. It was my first audiophile IEM and yet it remains a top dog in tonality and coherency.
At $300, there seems to be nothing tuned like the N3 - it is that unique and special. Some reviewers downplay it because of its lackluster technical performance tho 😢
Keep these kinds of videos coming, super work jimmy.
I ve tried soo many iems expensive to cheap but at the end of the day, i always come back for my kato. I bought her in 2021 and still my main iem outdoor indoor.
P1 max is pretty good, just lacking subbass. Flatter response, which isn't a bad thing. It's technical deficiencies are overstated. My dad actually liked it more than the heyday.
Good list however I would be surprised if S8 could be outperformed by the new Dusk given that it's Moondrop's best ever IEM with spectacular treble and imaging.
This is the hype of the moment. They have to sell the new models. I have the S8 and the Variations. there's no way blessing 3 or DUSK are better than the S8.
Timmy, you crazy. The P1 Max is still talked about a ton, maybe not on UA-cam but everyone else it’s still loved.
And yet there is Letshuoer S15, which is basically a smoother P1 Max, bassier albeit slightly, and being sold at basically 3x the price of a P1 Max. There is a used S15 sitting on my local online store for over 3 months now priced at 200$ and still not being sold.
It’s more than just tone. The S15 has a thickness to the sound and an elastic/bouncy bass like no other planars.
I like the Kato still - very expressive and emotional sounding in the midrange. However, when I got the Dusk, it took those qualities up 3 notches and was also a perfect fit for me, making it very immersive. I felt like I was inside the music for the first time, and I still love it to this day.
You should also take a look at the VE (Venture Electronics) Monk. It was very early in the Chi Fi game, and it was legendary for around $5
I still use VE at work almost every day one of my favourites!
I honestly love this look at the past, the market moves so quickly that the first iems I've heard about when starting the hobby aren't even considered anymore in reviews, even though they're still products that exist and that many people liked
Hope the Fiio FH line, makes an appearance in pt.3
yeah I still enjoy the FH3 and original FH7.
Agree with OH10, disagree with P1 Max..
What about the Dunu DK series, the 4001, 3001 and 2001? I'm curious to know how they stack up against the new kids, the Vulkan, the Falcon Ultra and the SA6 mk2.
Only fossils and old men remember them, no need to be reviewed
Where do you rank the ew200 and the zero:2s? They arent in your ranking list yet :)
I liked the OH10 but damn that was a heavy iem and it would always fall out my ear when walking, it was fun when still but could not keep a good fit when moving.
I kinda still obsessed with the b2 tuning, that sub & mid bass balance is one of the best experiences I've ever had. I kinda lost to find some similar tunings with same accurate high freq & better technical performances around that price, and personally I didn't like the performer5's look...
I gave b3 a listen, tried to slap some eq profiles on, but the mid bass doesn't slap like b2 did and I'm actually kinda sad rn
Could you please review the Hidizs MP145?
What if i buy those old iem used, will it make them a good option?
P1 Max IS REALLY GOOD
Daily Driver Dunu Vulkan and still got luv for the LZ A4 Pro that i have dialed in to perfection
About a decade ago the VE monks was a legend.
can you do a video on more "second old" legendary iem
The Kato and OH10 are my first two mid-fi iems coming from KZ. Can't recommend them new to anyone just getting into the hobby nowaday, but I love using them and still holdup quality wise.
I love my moondrop crescent and it want even popular or expensive...I don't know why but in my ears it just sound blissful 😊
Appreciate the information! Peace!
The fit for the z1r was a easy fix. I just changed the cable
Hope one day you will do a review of the Kefine Delci, Artti t10 or Pula01.
He’s already done the Delci and Pula (well, the CLVX version, which is identical).
That's the Pula02. Pula 01 is single DD probably closer to Katacco, but who knows since no one is reviewing Katacco. It's too bad because it ia really good!
Pretty Sure Tony/Akros has reviewed all 3.
@@someoneusa also interested in that Katacco
@@davegorthuis679 I love my Katacco, it's a complete package of quality that goes on sale for under $30 regularly. I just wish someone would graph it. To me sounds identical to the few reviews that are out for the Pula01.
Would love to see where the Urbanfun YBF, shouer tape (original) and KBear diamonds fare these days. Would have suggested the shozy 1.1 but they were replaced by the shozy 1.4’s. Fun vid, would love to see more. I remember the H40 and the I3 hyped back in the day never got to listen to them, hmmm might see if there’s a cheap H40 floating in the secondhand market
You should do a 2nd place for the vocal lovers 2024 as well. I’m curious of what will be 2nd place under $50 and under $100
I’ve always been curious about the P1 Max because of the large number of positive reviews but I know taste is subjective of course so I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. However, with the P2 Max II coming out soon, I’ll be really looking forward to the reviews for this one.
My personal IEMs are the S12 Pro. To me, they just have everything I want in sound and musicality.
review the artti, curious enough what your take on that once you really have it
what's the outro song?
do you got the name ... please tell me ...
Love my OG P1.

Hi, what about introducing he03al? It now costs less than 40% of og cost, and think it’s price worthy as truthear nova
So will u recommend to get the aria 2 instead of the kato?
Yes
@@Lost1ntheSauc3 the kato looks cool doh
@@americoechevarria8387 get it if you like it. Don't let someone else tell you what to do.
I currently know nothing about IEMs and just stumbled upon a new potential hobby I don’t know what to buy as I can’t probably tell the difference between cheap and expensive
Love these videos but imo you shouldn’t be using the msrp price to determine value, you should use the 2nd/used price. You can get alot do these iems 2nd hand at price point that makes them competitive/worth it
Ikko oh10 is those one iem that will be in the hall of fame
Recently tried to buy the Ikko OH10’s from Hifigo but after waiting 2 months with no stock in sight and Hifigo asking me to keep waiting, saying the deliveries were imminent, I gave up.
Really wish you could have compared these to some modern offerings which where maybe 60-75% of their price. I can't imagine anyone will be buying these new for MSRP, but I wanna know if I should buy one used vs a new modern iem.
If I can get a used blessing 2 for ~180, how does that compare to $180 new IEMs today?
AudioSense T800 I think still has a special place in today’s iem
Hexa VS Zero:Red Please!!
I got the IE 300 and i can without a doubt say.. Its my worst IEM 🤣🤣🤣
Still daily drive my blessing 2. Haven't upgraded in years 😅
Thanks Timmy.
Eeeeey sweet, I wanted something like this
Shout out to bassdad lol
Nice hair
as an S8 owner myself. the pressure build up doesnt bother me one bit. it doesnt even hurt me. maybe i am just built different but yeah for alot of people its a no go due to it.
Studio 4 or DUSK ?
I'm a big fan off both and as much as I like to shill softears. The DUSK is just better value. Great tuning, the technical performance is still great and it comes with DSP to play around with. Studio 4 is still amazing in its own right as a studio reference iem but for the extra $90, your returns over the dusk are very little unfortunately. I would still get both but to me, the Dusk has better performance per dollar
@@delta2613the dusk is not good for mixing at all. Details are too in your face and imaging is too good, which can cause your mix to sound less well separated. Studio 4 sounds almost identical to my studio monitors
@@KanyeWestFan69 I mean for mixing it's studio 4 all the way. Those things are professional equipment. I was referring more to general consumers that just want to listen to music
Em6l foamtips
wait for Studio 4 to be on sale for 360 usd around november 11, if you are interested in it.
Hey Timmy!
Ikko OH10 sounds absolutely horrific in the treble. I don't understand why anyone would enjoy it, but many do. Perhaps my set was worse than usual but I couldn't almost listen to it.
because many who liked it liked it for the bass. if your song doesnt hv bass then ofc you wont like it because thats what it needs to shine.
How about the Andromedas? People say old is gold with the older versions it's better
How about dunu Kima?
Kima hype died after like a week.
Hana was soo beautiful fr
Tbh not really sure what is meant by "pressure build up" with the S8, and have owned mine for nearly 2 years. Ive owned dozens of several hundred dollar IEMs so it's not like Im with limited experience. Can anyone elaborate on this?
As for its value, I havent heard the B3 or the new Dusk. But I do think the S8 sounds better than the Variations, as did Timmy in older videos, and somehow the Variations is still competitive at $450-$500+ in the past video? That makese zero sense lol. How is the B3 > S8 but the Variations still > B3 while also at one point the S8 > Variations?
I get tuning is different from the Variations, but don't really see how the S8 still isnt a pretty great IEM in it's price range especially if on sale or used. Feel like most people would prefer the S8 to the Variations or even the Thieaudio stuff on that price range
This is the hype of the moment. They have to sell the new models. I have the S8 and the Variations. I'm sorry, but there's no way bkessing 3 or DUSK are better than the S8.
Yeah idk man. If this was 5+ years ago I can see why ppl are quick to phase out expensive IEMs since the market genuinely was upgrading constantly. But the Moondrop S8? I genuinely cant see how someone listens to that IEM and is like "sounds like it should cost significantly less than the Hype4, the ie600, and the Performer8". If you say so lmao
True, never had an issue with S8's non vented shells. It sounds extremely detailed with lovely treble. Timbre is also a non issue for me.
@@vdroid89Me neither. Have had more issues with timbre from Dunu's stuff around this price range, but I see them still towards the top of recommendation lists. Its a subjective hobby for a reason, just feels weird when people say products objectively aren't competitive when they definitely are to a good extent
Feel like the market really hasn't evolved in the past 2 years as much as this video implies (at least not over the $100-$150 range). Just more quality IEMs filling niches that didn't exist a few years ago, but its hardly rendering pre-existing IEMs "bad value" like what was happening from 2018-2022
Beberapa bulan lalu gw beli ie 300 bro di indonesia harganya sekitar IDR 3.420.000, gw masih terkesan dengan tonal dan teknikalnya
Apalagi ie600 ya
OH10S is excellent too
They ain’t old tho
@@randallkubiszewski6908 Sorry, hall monitor.
Any "one hit wonder" of IEM?
Blon BL-03
Campfire Andromeda
✨👍
IMO blessing 2 > blessing 2 dusk and blessing 3.
2:37 Guys, please help. I found it for approximately $140, and the price is expected to drop. Is it worth it?
At that price I'd say go for it, even if you end up not liking them you can always resell with no loss
@@andrearenaudo9045 Selling these items in my country is almost impossible, but I will keep them anyway if I buy them. Thank you
I would honestly say; assuming it all works, go for it. Even if it isn't a "competitive" iem, good products stay good.
Nah, recommending S12 and it's clone over P1 Max is wild. They simply have too different of a tuning. That's like saying "oh you like vocals? upgrade your iem to maestro mini". I love my P1 Max and I would gladly upgrade if there's similar tuning but better.
Much like aria 2 kind of replaces the kato, i'd say the hexa replaces the b2.
Aria 2 didnt replace kato. I main kato alot and tried my fri's aria 2 and just doesn't feel like home. Totally different feeling in everyway
@@MST3.5 i meant "replace" as in commas. It's not exactly the same or else the same brand wouldn't sell both and specially not at so different prices, but seeing that it is so much less expensive, it's close enough. Moondrop has done this before. FR graph is very, very close. And i've heard several reviewers with a similar opinion. Still, i know it is more to it. Did they fit the same (insertion, eartips, etc.)?
also hexa cannot replace the b2. tunings are very different, especially in the midrange.
@@haomingli6175 i've never tried b2 but again, fr graphs are VERY similar and it has been a common opinion their tuning (subjectively) is also close.
Idk that it replaces b2, but yes Hexa is really good, especially considering the price.
อยากให้มี ซับไทย บ้างครับพี่
Still no Vsonic IEMs
6:13 arrti t10 was too cheaply built for me to like
aful p5?
Worst iem
@@heyking8583 why?
I dont really think the b2 dusk is better than the b2, its just a different type of neutral imo.
U have ear problem
@@heyking8583 your actually kinda of right. But its not a problem. Its a difference. We all have different HRTFs, therefore we are going to hear things differently and have different preferences.
I love my mdr ex800st and xba a2, with eq they easily become kilobuck killer
YEAH , I WOULD MAYBE PUT A SOUND DEMO BESIDE THE OLD AND NEW PERFECT IEMS . I THINK THIS IS IT ; OH SOUNDS GOOD LATER DUDE
first
Your taste is very weird and these iems are bad !
I was one of the "stupid ones" bieliving in planar hype and bought S12. They are pretty good for your standard well produced rock/pop/metal, but not so good for independent/folk/nois/industrial music. Also a lot of annoying quirks with these planars. God bless the Blessing 3 :)
S12 imo is a good basic IEM, but nothing wow about it. Timeless on the other hand has some really special aspects like the mids are amazingly detailed.
Treble hater 😂.
EQ to your heart's content. It's on you if you were to dismiss it just like that.
@@notenjoying666 tbf the s12 was known for its spicy treble...
