      Well he's been dead since 2005, and hadn't been in anything of any significance since 1989. It's not really that hard to understand how someone born in the 90's didn't know who he was.

    Finally you have seen the greatest comedy duo of all time! Richard Pryor was one of the writers on blazing saddles. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor did some of the most amazing comedy movies together. Their first one is called silver streak. That movie made me fall in love with trains and always wanted to ride one. You will absolutely love it! It has to be your next Gene Wilder movie! And Richard Pryor is a comedy GOAT. Rip to both of them. Gene Wilder once said the chemistry he had with Richard Pryor was like sexual and you could not explain it. Their chemistry together is amazing! I usually wait till Mondays even though I'm a patreon. But I might sit down and watch the whole thing with you. You made my sunday! I have young onset Parkinson's and you really bring a smile to my face every week. You're the only one I patreon. I have a 27-year-old son and a 14 year old daughter. So I have a millennial and a zoomer. My daughter calls me a boomer. I love watching you watch old movies! Another movie you will really like is the jerk with Steve Martin. It is so funny and politically incorrect that you will really enjoy it. I hope to see meatballs with Bill Murray on your channel soon. Me and you are the same about Bill Murray and about Gene Wilder. Oh those eyes!

    Funny, Stir Crazy story. I was something like 8 years old when this came out. I was dying to go see the Aristocats, which Disney had just re-released and my grandmother offered to pay for whoever could to take me. My 18 year old uncle and his best friend volunteered. So we headed out to a theater on Kingston Pike (fellow Knoxvillian here 😊). This mighty megaplex was located close to where Rooms to Go is now and had a whopping FOUR SCREENS! Back then, theaters had a separate ticket window for each movie playing. You could always tell what movie would probably sell out but the length of the line stretching into the parking lot. And because it was the afternoon of a summer weekday, of course it was the Disney movie with the biggest line. Before we even got out of the car, my Uncle said to me, “Look at that long line. Why don’t we go see this movie over here instead? Wouldn’t you rather do that? You know The Aristocats is going to sell out before we get to the counter. This one has Willie Wonka in it.” So, that is how my grandmother paid for an 8 year me to go see an R-rated comedy instead of a Disney film. And I laughed my butt off! Most of the R-rated stuff went over my head anyway. I really don’t want to admit how old I was before it finally hit me that two 18 year old boys volunteering to take a little girl to see a Disney film was a little odd and that going to see Stir Crazy on Mammaw’s dime might have been the plan all along. LOL! In my uncle’s defense, the line for Aristocats was wrapped around the building.

    This movie was HUGE. No one talks about it because it's so old and comedies generally don't time travel like other genres. Comedies tend to be more rooted in their times...and not usually considered 'art worth study' or 'profound' or 'speaking to the human condition' or whatever. There are comedies with pathos like Midnight Run & Planes, Trains and Automobiles that people feel differently about tho. I was in grade school when this came out, and all the kids were imitating Pryor's 'we bad' scene...huge hit.

    "How did the other people not die laughing?"
    It's called retakes.

    • @firstenforemost
      @firstenforemost 3 роки тому +3

      No, it's called professionalism. When you're an actor (and crew) in a comedy, you prepare yourself. You know in advance that something funny is going to occur so you simply steel yourself for it. You put on a "deadpan" expression and wait for filming to cut, at which point you can laugh. As an actor, I once won a competition for my ability to maintain a deadpan expression while other actors tried to make me laugh. Retakes don't come into it.

      As a film and television technician for the last 17 years, I can safely say it’s a combination of professionalism and several takes. These kind of comedians do tons of riffing so there’s multiple takes anyhow, so they can pick the best bits when it comes to editing.

    • @firstenforemost
      @firstenforemost 3 роки тому

      @@Costumerchx In a Venn diagram of what it takes to pull off a performance EVERYTHING is in a circle labeled Professionalism (which is in a larger circle labeled "Safety"). Congratulations on your 17 years. As a film and television writer, producer, and actor for 37 years, and as the only person in this conversation who seems to have a deep understanding of the actor side of this issue, I can definitively say that that the reason actors don't laugh during funny scenes is because they are being professional (including those who are background/extras who don't do it regularly or as a career). There are retakes of over 99% of scenes no matter what happens. Actors do flub lines and make mistakes and break character. There are instances where someone can break character or make the other actor break character, but to state that getting takes without people in the scene breaking and laughing requires "several takes" is false. Without professionalism, you'd never get a single clean take. Giving the credit for the actors not breaking during scene on retakes is an insult to actors. Even suggesting that it's a combination or requires both is false. That's like saying they do takes until they luckily get one where no one broke character. Actors on stage in live performances are able to go entire performances without breaking character and with no ability to do a retake, in absolutely farcical and outrageous and hilarious scenes. Why is it hard to believe that actors on set can do the same?
