Hey guys loved your reaction! I am a trained Bharatnatyam dancer so I would like to give my two cents on the little knowledge that I have of the dance. The dance could be summarised as clean lines, powerful footwork and sculpturesque poses, which require a certain level of control of the body, not forgetting the importance of facial cues/expressions. Here Devi Durga, is slaying the demon Mahishasura, from what I know of the story, at the end the dancer(durga), drinks his blood after slaying him depicting her rage, and the destruction of evil.
The beauty of the song is how a single devnagari letter or syllable is repeated over and over in each stanza. They have chosen specific words with that letter to create the poetry as well as have same syllable in them in one stanza. And it is a long beautiful poem. One of my favorite. The dance was beautiful. And bharatnatyam is actually natyam (drama) in dance form.

Thats why we say Yeh Mera India, I Love My India. Rich in culture, lots of different cultures, lots of diverse arts. Very old culture, around 3000 years old, just evolved a little bit with time.
Indian dance is not just dancing to the beats ..its expression of the lyrics ..each move is denoted to story told in the lyrics..Indians dances are language in itself..the dance moves tell you the story alone... in this video it's about a beautiful and fierce godess killing evil..well you got it without knowing the lyrics ..that's what it's about!!
She must be trained for atleast 10 years in this dance for very clear and clean. This is goddess durga strotam, it specifies and praises goddess durga. You must google for goddess durga
Glory to mother Durga!! This Sthotram is not a song it is an emotion - shows the Ferocity and Love a mother is capable of and to the extent she goes for the well being of her children!!! But isn't that the case with every mother in the universe...irrespective of species? After all any emotion we living beings have has come from her. Bless us all O Benevolent mother and always lead us to the Truth.
I had learned bharatnatyam for 4 years and I'm still basically a noob. This kind of dancing comes from years and years of practice and perfecting the art. I wish I had continued doing it.
The stotram is of Maa Aadi Shakti. The Supreme Most Goddess, Aadi-Parashakti. All the powers that the Multiverses has is just because of her. She's is Cause of all Causes. And that performance replicts perfectly
590k !!!!!! Mahishasur was the demon who was blessed by lord Shiva (the destroyer), that no God on this planet should ever be able to defeat him. Lord Shiva had no choice since he couldn't deny a worshiper. Mahishasur then starts destroying Earth. Since no God could ever defeat him, Durga(wife of Shiva) decided to destroy him as she is a Goddess, not God. She comes down to the earth and kills him. That posture was Durga eating the demon symbolizing the good eating and destroying the bad.
Actually the wish is not to be killed by man or animal. He excludes women as he thinks women are beneath his power to be considered as an enemy. Like many stories say.... The bigger the EGO... The harder the person falls ... Since then we still remember durga by the demon's ego... Point to learn... No creature is beneath anyone or anything...
Indian classical dance forms have meaning of each and every posture that they make while dancing all the expressions beautifully expressed. Who knows the meaning of that postures and expression only they will connect to the performance
These Indian classical dances are actually dance form of worship and expression of devotion to the participants deity. It takes 12 years of practice and learning to receive the certification to perform on a recognised platform.
Pls do research on the dance form instead of giving your reactions. There is lot behind that dance and songs. The dance form takes 8 to 9 years .And the song is a Sanskrit verse praising the goddess.
This is not just a dance its a medium of expressing the story of a great indian god DURGA which represents the power of women. This art form is really enjoyable one who knows the stories through (mudhras) eye movements foot steps facial expressions. Its a flow of emotions
the Dance form representing Devi Stuti(prayer) at the end part of this art form the dancer representing Devi(Goddess) drinking evil's all blood of an evil spirit who is immortal because of his blood. He can make thousands of replica if it touches ground. So Devi Destroying that evil by drinking every last drop of blood. Rick you got it near by. thank you
I grew up around a LOT of girls who did Bharatanatyam from the moment they could walk. I have NEVER seen any other form of movement give someone leg muscles THAT powerful but also THAT flexible.
6:50, Yes, and the Stotra/Poem is aptly captured by the BhartaNatyam dancer in her movements: Eyes, Hands/Mudra, Body Movement. It takes almost entire childhood to youth to Master the Classical movements with tons of practice every day. And then the initiation Arangetrum is when then the Dancer starts to perform on her/his own. Just plain LOVELY, Thank you. :)
The song is actually Mahishasura Mardhini Sthothram. This version you listen to has been sung by Rajalakshmee Sanjay. This has been composed and sung more on a tradiational take. Ironically, it is also my workout song.
You are right rick... This is where Goddess Durga fought the Asura (Demon) called Mahishasura in a battle that went on for 10 days and on the 10th day she won over the evil by beheading him and had to drink his blood. The Asura had received a boon that from every drop of his blood that falls on earth will rise 100 more of him.
now many of us liking this song bcz of sound quality , lighting , photography and finally her performance. but this whole art about devotion. times when no equipment for light , sound, photography.. this art live over thousands of years. ppl drink devotion with this science of art.

lakshmi prasad jonnalagadda EXACTLY!!!
And close up shots for facial expressions and intricate hand mudras are not shown, brilliant performance spoiled by bad photography.
Correct. I kept thinking it was a shame they did not concentrate on showing the footwork properly.
Bharathanatyam is the first dance of the world and called as the cosmic dance and I am a Bharathanatyam dancer🥰
What Lord shiva Dance called?
This dance has a huge storytelling aspect to it. The song and the choreography tells a story from some Hindu classic. She was probably playing a goddess devouring the heart of a demon after defeating him
When The Woman Dances To Ayigiri Nandini She is No longer a Woman But the Cosmic Sum Total Energy of Universe Mother of all Energy... I would never Use This for a reaction video but it is Upto You... Remember Literally Mother Not Just Words...I Don't want any Hate attached to my Comment...A little Seriousness is Sometimes Required...May U spread happiness by Mother's Grace
Korbin and friends thanks for all the great reactions....I'm assuming you had to get them all ready before Rick left for India?...great way to start the day 🙂🙏🏻✨
I liked Rick's reaction on the video. He was trying to seriously understand the concept of the performance and commented after thinking twice. Korbin was more of enjoying the dance whereas, the other three pupils did not understand the complexity of the performance. Anyways, thanks to Rick for ur reaction.
She was drinking blood of the evil demon
Actually, every traditional dance forms of INDIA tells a story
This speaks about power of goddesses and how powerful everyone women can be. She can be beautiful, intelligent, caring and powerful at the very same time.
Please react to Shattriya Nritya from Assam, North-East India-one of the 8 dance forms of India
It's called Mahishasura mardini, aka the destroyer of Mahishasura , its taken from Shri Durgashaptshati , a Vedic literature book.
Please watch BRODHA V's version of AIGIRI NANDINI.🙏
It's a music video tho.
Superb divine and beautiful dance. Very soulful...Very cool...
One can only able to perform by the grace of Maa Durga only..
These classical dances have a story and each action and expression is describing the story. She is the power that destroys the evil!
It’s the goddess Kali !! The most powerful “ fighting mode” of goddess Durga ! There are plenty forms in hindu mythology!
3:52 Not "splitting fire", but demonstration of "Maa Aadishakti drank blood of demons!"
The camera work in that video was not capturing her feet sometimes. However experimental it was meant to be, it should show her body in its entirety
I learnt Bharatnatyam since I was 4 and discontinued when I was 16. And to do this that gracefully 🙏🏻
You need to watch Brodha V's version of Aigiri Nandini!!
Thats why we say Yeh Mera India, I Love My India.
Rich in culture, lots of different cultures, lots of diverse arts.
Very old culture, around 3000 years old, just evolved a little bit with time.
Bengalis are always great in art..😊
Feeling proud being a bengali..😊
Bharathanatyam is traditional dance of Tamil Nadu if you have any doubt search in Google
@@Volssimon she meant that the dancer is bengali.
Mahishasura mardhini from mysuru chamundeshwari taayi
From Karnataka🇧🇯🇧🇯🇧🇯
Ricksegall has written अपना टाईम आएगा on his hand in देवनागरी लिपि 😁😄🥰
Now react to the Brodha V version of this song.
Bengalis are learning Bharatanatyam great 👍
We get goosebumps whenever we hear this song
We feel this as powerful
I had learned bharatnatyam for 4 years and I'm still basically a noob. This kind of dancing comes from years and years of practice and perfecting the art. I wish I had continued doing it.
I want then to re-react to "deewangi deewangi" from Om Shanti Om, pretty sure they will recognise more people now😂😂
Saddhwi Majumdar was a junior of mine at school. So extremely proud of her!
Now that you have heard Aigiri Nandhini. React to Brodha V's Aigiri Nandhini
Anirudh Shashang absolutely!! Now that you reminded me.. I will go and listen to it.
The name of this dance is Bharatnatyam. It is very tough classical dance with rigid moments of hands, legs and face
I think only 20% of India know Sanskrit language, this song is also in Sanskrit language
Idiot Mahisasur was blessed by Brahma
U guys did it now your part of Indian culture .listen to this stotram it gives u not only peace but also protects u from evil.
That guy in white T-shirt is literally me throughout the video. 😂
Same here 😂
Indian classical dance forms have meaning of each and every posture that they make while dancing all the expressions beautifully expressed. Who knows the meaning of that postures and expression only they will connect to the performance

These Indian classical dances are actually dance form of worship and expression of devotion to the participants deity.
It takes 12 years of practice and learning to receive the certification to perform on a recognised platform.
She was drinking the blood of the evil after killing him...
She is my sister. Proud to see her dance in your channel😚😚😙😙
Pls react to actress roundtable
the Dance form representing Devi Stuti(prayer) at the end part of this art form the dancer representing Devi(Goddess) drinking evil's all blood of an evil spirit who is immortal because of his blood. He can make thousands of replica if it touches ground. So Devi Destroying that evil by drinking every last drop of blood. Rick you got it near by. thank you
Micah needs to be in bed or soccer field...poor kid....
I grew up around a LOT of girls who did Bharatanatyam from the moment they could walk. I have NEVER seen any other form of movement give someone leg muscles THAT powerful but also THAT flexible.
I am also a classical bharatnatyam dancer and I and every bharatnatyam dancer worships it ❤❤❤❤and I also respect my dance very much
Every step is actually telling a story.. there is a meaning behind every step of Indian Hindu classical dancing
this song has positive power.. I am from tamilnadu , but a foreigner recommended this song to me when i was in sad , depressed mood ...
When i hear and watch this vdo i got goosebumps
When we watch this vdo i don't know from where i got the power ❤ maa durga ❤durga devi❤
This song is protecting us from negative energy. It gives us the right path in a bad situation.
Nice people making Indians proud ❤️❤️
Love from India ❤️❤️
What surprise ! I was looking for India dance and I found Rick Segall from The Parteidge Family ! Good old times! Geetings from Brasil !
After watching your videos, I started loving my motherland more and more....
these classical dances are more than 2000 years old! all hail indian traditions
Those hand postures are called "mudras" and that's the most important and the most graceful thing in the classical dance form
It takes literally a lifetime to master that... a continuous process...
This is classical dance form from south India called Bharatnatyam. Song is ayigiri Nandini (depicting goddess killing raksasha mahishasuran ).
i'm form Tamilnadu, I'm So Happy to see your reaction about Bharathanatyam
Nice Reaction Guys :)
Every step that she is performing has a meaning which is as per the lyrics of the song. The steps are inspired from nature.
