Rick... u were spot on with figuring out that its kind of mime n acting... "Kuchipudi" definitely has dance but most of the work done is through expressions, acting n storytelling....
I have learnt Bharatnatyam for 16years, so i can definitely tell you that every classical dance form has what you call "mimes". It depends on the dance piece which is performed on how much story telling and "mimes" will be expressed. And yes men classical dancers can be found in most classical dance forms.
But kuchipudi specifically designed for mime or story telling by it’s creator. Special for songs on krishna written by kshetrayya and narayana teertha. This has more grace.
Classical dance is presented in 3 ways - Nritta, Nritya and Natya. Most of what you have watched until now were 'Nritta', while this is 'Nritya'. 'Nritya' involves a lot of expression and miming for a song. 'Nritta' is the technical dancing, and does not involve storytelling. 'Natya' is more musical storytelling (or dance drama).
@@sivapaturu5784 something like 'Bhama Kalapam' would be an example of 'Natya'. It is a full story told through the use of both Nritta, Nritya and music. While using expressions and miming for the lyrics of a song like 'krishna shabdam' would be typically classified under 'Nritya'.

Mime part depends on the dance piece or the song the dancer chooses to perform. It is prominent in Bharathanatyam as well. Having learnt Bharathanatyam from when I was 3yo, I had to say this :)
Rick , you are great in reading Indian languages with perfect diction. Let me suggest.. you must watch Kathakali n Mohini attam too. These 2 classical dances belong to the state Kerala. Fyi.. I want to tell you Kuchipudi is the classical dance of state Andhra Pradesh. Bharatnatyam is the dance form from Tamil nadu, Odissi belong to Orissa state and Kathak is the classical form of North India.
You are yet to watch more forms , like Bharatnatyam, Kathakali, mohiniattam , kathak , theres this dance from Manipur again dedicated to Krishna mostly n my bad I am forgetting the name etc and then there r folk dances like Bihu, kalbelia, ghoomar, garba , Dandiya , gidda , Bhangra , it's literally like every state having 10s of different dance forms of their own . Thanks a lot Rick and Korben. One of the best parts about your channel (apart from the fact that you choose to review great stuff) is that you do not try to suck up to the subscribers. Both of you are polite but at the same time keep your reviews and opinions honest and straight forward. You got ot right Rick..we love your channel because you dont restrict yourselves to movies n songs like others..you two accept and understand India like no other channel🙂❤
this is storytelling dance is about Lord Krishna when he was a child and she was showing the motherhood of Yashoda(Krishna's mother). different emotions and movements actually have a meaning. for reference 04:50 lord is asking for Makhan(Indian butter) which Yashoda was making out of the curd. 04:55 Yashoda didn't approve of makhanas she is busy. 05:00 lord goes sad over her she feels it and left all work. 05:23 now she offered little Krishna some Makhan to have. 05:30 now as little Krishna is unhappy about it she feeds him with her hand and him and he goes happy again. by the way, I too love makhani with a little salt in it😋 pardon me for my poor vocabulary
Ur description is completely wrong. It's a dasi Vasakasajjika trying to call Krishna to herself first by offering flowers, then sandal paste and then wrapped betel leaves as is shown in the abhinaya. It is a popular kuchipudi item called krishnashabdam. There is no Yashoda and makhan.
This is an incorrect translation. The dance is about a nayika asking Lord Krishna to come to her, as she has made a special sandalwood paste and wishes to offer it to him by smearing it on his body. The words of this shabdam are Raa Raa, Swami Raa Raa, Yaduvamsa Sudha Abhudi Chandra (Meaning: Come, Come to me oh Lord. You are the like the moon and the nectar of life for the Yadavas. The dance that you are referring to about Yashoda and Krishna is called Mudugare Yashoda. It is not this Krishna Shabdam.
Try watching Tillana, a Bharatanatyam piece. You'll love it. Also, you should definitely watch Kathak and Mohiniattyam and Kathakali, three other varied forms that is as beautiful and graceful as the others.

There is Mime and acting and facial expression in almost all classical dance forms in India. They are always dance dramas.
Rick, you are absolutely on point with regards to the dance form, the dancer/choreographer and the focus of the dance 'Krishna' indeed!!!
Mime part depends on the dance piece or the song the dancer chooses to perform. It is prominent in Bharathanatyam as well. Having learnt Bharathanatyam from when I was 3yo, I had to say this :)
OMG I’M SOO GLAD THAT SOMEONE SUGGESTED THIS!!!! omg ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Prabhu Deva and Kamal Hassan are Bharathanatyam dancers. You may want to check out their dances in some films. Pretty good!
Kamal is also trained in Kathak, Kuchipudi and Odisshi.
@shri you are welcome! :)
Yes I rarely watch classical dance performances though am aware of it....so itz a revelation for me as much as you..
N m loving it!!!
Кучипуди это наше всё! 😎 Девушка нереально прелестная! 😍
I wish u watch all 🤗
Thanks a lot Rick and Korben. One of the best parts about your channel (apart from the fact that you choose to review great stuff) is that you do not try to suck up to the subscribers. Both of you are polite but at the same time keep your reviews and opinions honest and straight forward. Just because a large number of the subscriber base is from India, neither of you tries to sugar coat something which you do not like or do not agree with (just watched your food reaction video :) ). So, thanks a lot for not patronizing us. Utmost respect to you guys. All the best for the future
Please watch Sandhya Raju's Durga Tharangam! Loved this reaction btw. You guys are amazing! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Hi guys really proud if u. Because u guys not just reacting.but perfectly trying to understand the culture and reacting.its beautiful.trying to interpret in a sincere manner. I live u guys
Seven classical dance forms in India :
1) Kathak - North India
2) Bharatnatyam - Karnataka & Tamilnadu
3) Kuchipudi - Andhra Pradesh
4) Kathakali - Kerala - Only Men
5) Mohiniattam - Kerala - Only Women
6) Odissi - Orissa
7) Manipuri - North East India
And there are hundreds of folk dances .... !
Now we have many female Kathakali dancers as well
Beautiful dance.
She shows her devotion and feelings for her hero Krishna. She makes sandalwood paste and applies on his arms and face. She plucks flowers for him and makes a garland then puts it around his neck. She shows her love for him.
Men perform all classical dances. Kathakali is exclusively men
sujani koya not really.... Women also perform now a days
@@aleenaprasannan2146 Kathakali? Wow
@@sujanikoya2826 yes...now there are so many women performers..even many women's troupes are there in kerala...
I think same with Kuchipudi which also used to exclusively men dancing.
@@asamvav Yeah with Kuchipudi it's different but Kathakali is still all-male or was. Urgently going to enquire with Malayalee friends about this
Enjoy these videos .. also we are getting more close to our own culture bcz India is so diverse in culture that it will take our lifetime to discover it. Also there are classical male and female dancers.. and they are awsm... thanks for the channel ... we all love u😙😍
please watch jellikattu movie teaser , the movie played at torrento film festival , and also selected in busan film festival and Landon film festial
Torrento......

Wow wow. Even I love watching all different types of classical dancing here. I haven't seen these in 10 years
Yes there are male dancers
Like Pandit Birju Maharaj
One of the greatest classical dancers and another Maestro like Ust Zakir Hussain
very interesting to know that 'rock' looking n possibly loving corbin is appreciating classical dance...love ur broad horizon in appreciating different dance forms....kudos...and rick, a highly accomplished critique...
Please react to Tharangam. Which is Kuchipudi on a plate.
Rick you are awesome.. everything you said is true about this dance form..
This dance depicts the relationship of Lord Krishna n his mom during his childhood
No.... Actually it's not! This is of more romantic expression!!
You got ot right Rick..we love your channel because you dont restrict yourselves to movies n songs like others..you two accept and understand India like no other channel🙂❤
this is storytelling dance is about Lord Krishna when he was a child and she was showing the motherhood of Yashoda(Krishna's mother).
different emotions and movements actually have a meaning.
for reference
04:50 lord is asking for Makhan(Indian butter) which Yashoda was making out of the curd.
04:55 Yashoda didn't approve of makhanas she is busy.
05:00 lord goes sad over her she feels it and left all work.
05:23 now she offered little Krishna some Makhan to have.
05:30 now as little Krishna is unhappy about it she feeds him with her hand and him and he goes happy again.
by the way, I too love makhani with a little salt in it😋
pardon me for my poor vocabulary
Brilliant guys. Your observations are perfect.
Try watching Tillana, a Bharatanatyam piece. You'll love it.
Also, you should definitely watch Kathak and Mohiniattyam and Kathakali, three other varied forms that is as beautiful and graceful as the others.
I am learning odissi for 20years now or even more. I don't even remember. But yes those facial expressions are one of the lit points of classical dance forms..and there are many well known male dancers too.

Guys you are exploring all about incredible India🇮🇳🇮🇳💓💓💓..love you 💓
How come Rick is an Expert now in Odhisi Dance form...🤔
Kuchipudi is mind blowing to watch, just like every other classical dance forms.😍
The story here is easier to understand though.
It was interesting to see what's next in the story.
And if the performer is mocking you that too would be soo beautiful that at the end you go like 'Come on... Mock me some more'. 😄😆😊😊😊😊😉
This dance(Kuchipudi) is from the same state as Allu Arjun who you've seen in songs dancing with skill. And I have no clue why this association is relevant anywhere anyway
Most of the time Indian art is about story telling .... Whether it is music or dance ...
She's is performing a act from a stories of lord Krishna through this classical dance form on predefined beats and poses ...

I am impressed by your interest in Indian classical dance which dates back 2500 yrs at least. The father of classical theatre Bharat Muni or sage Bharat who wrote Natya Shashtra A codified rules of performing arts. Nataraja or shiva is the deity .
There are 8 dance forms Bharatnatyam from state Tamilnadu , Kuchipudi Andhra Pradesh , Kathakali and Mohiniattam from Kerala , Kathak North India , Manipuri from Manipur , Odissi from Oddissa. Please react to famous dancer couple Radha Reddy and Raja Reddy

Indian classics are all about facial expressions more than moves that too Kuchipudi is mainly focused on facial expressions and the story mode . if u missed that damn that's it.😁
