      He pushed an 8 year old child off a tower. He sat on his ass after he killed Aerys and allowed Elia, Aegon and Rhaenys to be viciously slaughtered. He lied to Tyrion that his wife was a prostitute and allowed Tyrion to believe the lie while the girl was gang raped by their father’s men and then raped again by Tyrion himself. Why would he care what Cersei did to people that aren’t Lannisters?

      True, but I wonder if Elia knew about them. I think Oberyn said, that Elia and Rhaegar were close, despite not being in love. What if Rhaegar told him about Lyanna, that he wanted to complete the prophecy of the three heads, without putting her in danger. I know Lyanna and Rhaegar are secretly married in the show, but they might not be in the books, after all having the former underdog character (after Dany) be the secret king AND Azor Ahai is a bit stereotypical, it doesn't seem like something GRR would do.
      So maybe Elia knew and R+L were never married.

    • @meloderieugif2294
      @meloderieugif2294 3 роки тому +38

      @@francescapatti2934 I believe that Elia and Rhaegar were fond but not in love, and given the fact Elia was unhealthy it was another reason for them not to be so close. I don't know why Aerys allowed their match. They couldn't even have sex after baby Aegon and that affects a lot on a relationship, if people claim this is not important they're being hypocrit. So you have this scene, Rhaegar is wrapped on a marriage with an unhealthy woman and Lyanna is being forced to marry someone she despice. Also, Rhaegar and Lyanna were both very different from what was expected so they must felt lonely and depressed, frustrated with expectations of others, always doing what they're told and never what they wanted, so when these two particular personalities meet they just can recognize in each other, and like Ser Barristan said on the books, young people want passion, beauty, adventures, that's why Daenerys was into Daario and she was more fond of Quentin's good looking friend than Quentin himself. Young people are like that.
      Nothing can makes me think that what happened between Rhaegar and Lyanna was cause for war, other houses like Lannister, Tully, Arryn, Tyrell and Greyjoy wouldn't mind at all for Rhaegar taking a mistress, even Martells wouldn't be at risk once Elia had two legitm children and there was no common sense about the kidnapping once Oberyn said Rhaegar left, Barristan said he loved Lyanna, Jaime said he would be a good King, Cersei hates Robert for surviving the Trident, Ned compares Robert to Rhaegar when it comes to going in brothels. It was Aerys fault, he burned the Starks instead of demanding a search for Rhaegar and Lyanna, where everything would've being explained .

I also feel like if he wanted to make those changes then he should've done that first instead of chasing some Northern ass there would've been plenty of time for baby making. Thanks for reminding me of how the show had failed Jaime Lannister's character. I had forgotten, after all this time, because his demise was so brutally overshadowed by a bunch of other, greater, show mishaps.
    In fact, if not for Danaerys' sudden, inexplicable plunge, into insanity, what was done to Jaime Lannister would probably stand as the single worst character arc ever violated by Dan & Dave. Jaime Lannister, for 7+ seasons of the show, had by far one of the most intriguing character arcs. We all watched as a "villain" at the beginning, was slowly absolved, and transformed into a "hero." But then, after the "Long Night" episode was over with... all of that "character development" was casually thrown out the window, like a rotten piece of meat, and the show runners decided Jaime should die, like a little b*tch, along with his intolerably insane sister. Good work, you pair of idiots!
    D & D "Red Wedding-ed" Jaime Lannister's character, on the show. A complete, and utter betrayal, that left no room for hope, or any sort of redemption. They f-cked up Dany... and they completely betrayed Jaime Lannister.

Even without that, whatever prophecy he might or might not have seen didn't matter. He betrayed his wife, got his children murdered, and started a civil war with highlords in control of significant portions of the country. All for a vision of the future he had under the assumption his children were all magical chosen ones. At best the prophecy was misread, and at worst it was outright wrong. Either way tens of thousands of people died, and his family was pushed off the throne. I always hated that overly romanticized version of Rheagar everyone goes on about. He convinced a teenage girl to go away with him to his tower and got her pregnant at the cost of his own family, thats it.

      And Rhaeghar was correct about having a child with Lyanna, ice and fire etc. I hate it when people criticize Rhaeghar's working off of prophecy since he was actually right, hating him for that is totally nonsensical. @@zachstenger1372 If you don’t think Jon is some sort of chosen one then I don’t know what to tell you. You’re reading some other series entirely.
      The show’s ending means nothing.
      Melisandre asked to see her king, “All she saw was Snow”. Just one of the many indications of Jon as being of prophetic importance.
      I mean look at the name of the series for goodness sake! A Song of Ice and Fire. Jon is the only character who represents both.
      I don’t know why you think the war would have happened if Aerys hadn’t murdered the Starks. I’ve never seen anyone make that claim before. That makes no sense. Hell, Jon Arryn wasn’t even going to call his banners until *after* Aerys wanted his wards heads.
      Even after that, most, including Tywin, thought the rebellion would be minor and swiftly crushed until the Battle of the Bells.
      You have to understand that the Targaryen dynasty had ruled unchallenged except by their own family (Targs and Blackfyres) for three hundred years. Their might was not in question. Aerys could have probably avoided rebellion even after killing Richard and Brandon, if he had just left Robert and Ned alone. That’s how powerful the Targaryens were.
      So I don’t think too many would agree with your war was inevitable stance.

    I also hope for a more satisfying conclusion to Jaime's story in the books... the foreshadowing is in place for him to be the true Azor Ahai reborn.
    - it's implied that he and Cersei are actually bastard children of Aerys, after claiming primae noctis with (on? against?) Joanna Lannister (doubly ironic because then Tywin's *only* true child is Tyrion, who is the one of the three Lannister siblings most like Tywin according to their aunt Genna, and Tywin's always ranting about how Tyrion is "no son of mine," because he's too arrogant to see past the surface level when it comes to his own family)
    - Jamie killed Aerys after learning that the Mad King was planning on destroying the entire city with wildfire after pretending to surrender to Robert's men and letting them all into the city
    - assuming we can trust the general plot of the show to be correct, Cercei will also stockpile a shit ton of wildfire and plan on blowing up the city after "surrendering" to Dany / Jon -- in essence, the same plan that Aerys had
    - Azor Ahai tried to forge Lightbringer 3 times, the final time succeeding by quenching in the heart of his true love, Nissa Nissa... Jaime's sword has been forged twice: first as the Stark ancestral Valyrian steel sword Ice, then reforged into Oath Keeper... it will become Lightbringer when he plunges it into the heart of his love, Cercei, to save the people who will never know or recognize him as a hero
    - related, we also know Stannis' sword is not actually Lightbringer, it's just a glamor used by Melissandre to convince people, because as Aemon points out to Sam Tarly, the true Lightbringer produced an intense level of heat, said to be almost unbearable to be near, and Stannis' sword produces no heat
    - also, we know that even if Jon Snow is brought back from death by Melissandre, it doesn't necessarily make him the Prince that was Promised any more than Beric Dondarrion is for having been brought back six times by Thoros of Myr
    - in Mel's viewpoint chapter, we learn that every time she prays for an image of Azor Ahai, she only sees "snow" -- but this could be a deliberate misdirection, since we know "prophesy is a sword without a hilt" and GRRM never likes to make it obvious... perhaps she's really seeing the white cloak of the Kingsguard, Jamie at his ideal best, embodying the ideals of true knighthood

    • @JimRFF
      @JimRFF 10 місяців тому

      @@mappingshaman5280 well, if you really want to be pedantic, the Azor Ahai prophesy says absolutely nothing about the bloodline of Aerys and Rhaella, because the Azor Ahai prophesy predates them being alive by thousands of years. You're conflating the Azor Ahai myth with the "prince that was promised" prophesy made by a random unnamed woods witch which Maester Aemon believed made Rhaegar the Prince-that-was-Promised (he later changes his mind to thinking it was about Dany, because "prince" is gender-neutral in Valyrian)... It is possible that the two stories refer to one magical individual, but the Azor Ahai story is a cultural myth that has been around for thousands of years, the Prince-that-was-Promised is a specific prophesy by a specific minor character made within a few decades of the story taking place, they're not the same prophesy... But magic is a sword without a hilt, as GRRM likes to remind us, and believing in those prophesies at face-value is almost always wrong

    I felt sorry for what Jaime had to endure as a teenager guarding the Mad King, esentially a hostage condamned to see the king burning people, abusing his queen, etc. His father Tywin, for all he claimed to care for his "golden" son, sacked the capital and ordered the Mountain to kill off the royal family instead of rushing to see if his son was still alive. All his life, people used him--his father for his ambition, the king as a hostage, Cersei for whatever she wanted, all except Tyrion and Brienne, who liked him just the way he was. As for the battle against the undead, well, he was more useful than many others who had both hands, he never ran/froze up like Arya,The Hound, etc, he saved Brienne's life again and Pod's, he was still fighting on the walls when Arya stabbed the Night King. However, I think it was more courageous to show up alone at Winterfell among his enemies, knowing they can kill him on sight , to fight the undead with them, leaving his pregnant sister-lover behind, than to fight the undead. Also, when he was trialed by Daenerys and the Starks, he kept his vow to keep the king's secrets and didn't say that Aerys had planned to burn the city. I don't know why Tyrion and Brienne, who knew, didn't say it, as they swore no vows! Also, the show whitewashed characters like Tyrion and Cersei, but made Jaime darker--he never killed his cousin or forced himself on Cersei in the books and left her when he learned she had cheated on him with Lancel, burning her letter begging him for help. Ironically, he left his army and job to go help Brienne who is leading him into a trap, to Lady Stoneheart. Brienne lied to him that she needs him to treat with the Hound to free Sansa and he went fully knowing he can't win against a fight with the Hound. If he survives Lady Stoneheart, it's obvious he will be upset with Brienne for lieing to him and leading him to potential death, and possibly returning to Cersei for their son Tommen and because, for all her sins, Cersei never sent him to potential death like honorable Brienne. Lady Stoneheart is mad enough to hang 10 year old Podrick for being Tyrion's squire and Brienne, her sworn sword, when she refused to kill Jaime, so logic and facts will not convince her. I wouldn't be surprized if Lady Stoneheart staged her own deranged version of the Red Wedding , forcing Jaime and Brienne to play groom and bride before execution, maybe with some dead Freys hanging as a romantic background--our author loves weddings! :-D

      I think he definitely Will finish them. Or continue them at least. The story in the books is completely different, and there's still Young Griff, who's attacking and claims to be Aegon Targaryen, son of Rhaegar and Elia, but he's probably just Aegon Blackfyre or the something. Maybe he's also just some random kid, but anyway he'd coming to claim the throne along with Dany, Stannis(if he doesn't die), the people in Dorne and MAYBE Jon.

    I think that in the books, Jaime will kill Cersei, who will probably go mad and try to do what Aerys had tried all those years ago. It also fits with the valonquar prophecy since Jaime is tounger than Cersei. I also think that somewhere along the way Jaime might save Jon Snow's life,or realize tht he is Rhaegar's son, since Rhaegar's last words to him bid him to protect his children, and Jaime still feels awful for failing Rhaenys and Aegon.

    Jaime story is always so frustrating to me, how can anybody be ignorant enough to call jaime a bad guy and "dishonorable" for killing the mad king and saving half a million people from dragon fire just because it technically broke and oath. Jaime has nothing to apologise for. He was smarter and had more integrity at 17 than most of the adults around him

    • @JimRFF

      Do keep in mind that, in the story, no one but Jamie actually knows that Aerys was going to blow up the city and kill hundreds of thousands of people just to spite Robert -- the only people Aerys told were the alchemists, whom Jaime killed immediately before killing Aerys as they were on their way to do the deed, and Jamie himself never shared that detail with anyone because he knew everyone would think he was making it up to try to protect himself...
      As far as readers / watchers of the show go, yeah, anyone calling Jamie dishonorable has not been paying attention. Morally questionable, compromised, made mistakes... yeah, absolutely. But the man's got an iron-clad sense of honor, he's one of the few people in the story that actually embodies the ideals of knighthood.

    • @Beltims

      Because oaths are everything in that world. And Jaime swore to defend the king. Jaime isn't completely wrong when he killed Aerys to protect the city, but everyone else aren't wrong either when they point out that Jaime betrayed his oath. And while he was in a difficult situation he could have done things differently. He could have subdued the king or resigned afterwards. His arrogant behaviour also doesn't help.
      @Jimbo Slice Jaime tries to kill Bran by pushing him out of window. That's not "iron-clad sense of honor" or "embodies the ideals of knighthood" lol. He's a complicated character and no villain, but he is not saint or a hero either.
