Jonah adding those synths as the Flute solo is developping makes the experience so full and satisfying. And the sharing of the melody between Cory and Jonah is beautiful. Love it
I swear that if the full "Wongnotes" ensemble isn't present when they come to my city (Los Angeles) later this year, I'm going to start a riot! While I've loved every single musician who has played with Cory every time I've seen him play live here, he has never brought along The Hornheads crew. They are all members of The Wongnotes on the recording and videos, so they damn well better be present when they come to my town! I apologize if this seemed aggressive, lol. I've just seen so many of Cory's live shows where he is playing in Minneapolis and he always has The Hornheads backing him up for those shows but those guys never seem to go on tour with him.
@@gustafsone Saw them in SF on Friday, Hornheads in tow. It was awesome. I believe they were on to LA next - hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did!
@@c.j.caudle8869 Oh my gosh, yes! I saw Cory and his band 4 months or so before the pandemic shut everything down and they were amazing. This time, he brought along The Hornheads and I can't even! I'm still in disbelief of what I witnessed that night. Unbelievable musicians, the lot of them! We also got a special appearance of Dave Koz for a couple of songs, and then they closed the night with "Dean Town" because Jack was at the show and he wanted to sing and dance with the crowd, lol. I think that Petar might be the best hype-man that you band can have. Not only is he an absolute beast on the drums, but he was always getting the audience to clap to the beat and get into the show. I love that guy!
This is the most different style from Dirty Loops that I've ever heard so far... and absolutely LOVE IT (,too). Smooth and soft, it sounds just wonderful.
I can't believe I'm one of the first few to listen to this masterpiece. I'm gutted Dirty Loops had to postpone their tour date in Guildford, UK... and looking forward to seeing Cory live on October 22nd. It would be pure bliss if I could ever watch them playing together. One can only dream...
The more I hear this, the more details I can get, I love how Jonah added simple but beautiful piano part at 3:36 before the arpeggio, hopefully you all can perform this live!!
The tune reminds me a bit of Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues". There's also a certain amount of the CTI sound here - from those Sixties/Seventies pop-jazz albums with the gorgeous cover photos, the A-list players, and the super-polished production.
@@mattlogan1 Under other circumstances, I'd be very tempted to agree with you. However Jonah really has some tremendous synthesizer abilities that quite honestly are probably commensurate with Cory's. Albeit I haven't seen Jonah improvise anything quite like Lingus, but I think there's opportunity in the future. That said, if you decided to throw a Hammond B3 in anything, there is nobody else but Cory.
Every nuance is tied to another. These musicians are bound at the soul. They play their individual parts yet stay out of each other's way. They are some of the best musicians I've ever heard.
Dear Mr. Wong, I love this composition. A few bars into the song, it captured me. It's beautiful, dark, full, warm, slightly melancholy and lush. As a Percussionist and Drummer, it's one of those dream songs I'm always hoping for to come along. After listening to it a few times, which filled my head with lots of ideas, I played along for about an hour. Being only 04:03, I looped it so I could try out my ideas. I've added "Ring Of Saturn" to my (archived) Music Library, Playlist and Play Along List. However, I wish there was an additional 26 minutes to the song. In closing, I just wanted to say I have great admiration, appreciation and respect for your musicianship. I dig your choices and I think you're a beautiful, sensitive and very tasty player. "Follow the Light" sounded like both of Cory's and Dirty Loops' style at the same time, but this one sounds like none of them, although they both are fully capable of it and even killing it.
This is such delight to listen to, very Pat Metheny-esque especially in the chorus ..I noticed a bit of "have you heard" and "Third wind", Pat's influence can be felt in this track. Great job there from Cory and Dirty Loops, you guys don't just make music for general public but also music for musicians to enjoy.
Cory, Pat Metheny I am sure is happy to have you as a peer and you pushed Dirty Loops to a new dimension in their already unique position in the music industry.
Some have mentioned other artists, but it isn't even close. The overriding influence is Metheny and Mays......and it is fantastic. I would love to see Dirty Loops move more in the smooth jazz direction where their amazing skills can be fully expressed.

Cory is really pushing for that Grammy, and we are all blessed for it.
That Grammy deserves a Cory.
I think he lives for this. Not for grammys.
Nobody cares about the Grammys. It's a joke. Music (and any other art) is not a competitive sport. True musicians do it for the love of music.
I here you gotta sell it to snatch the grammy
He should have about 5 by now :D
Tremendous Pat Metheny influence. Kenny Holman is probably the most underrated woodwind player out there.
Also could be the first alto flute solo on UA-cam
