    It is so unfortunate that the rotten apples can really spoil it for those of us going above and beyond to help our clients get their results - skepticism is at an all time high.

      Yes! I feel this too, but am just hoping eventually things will level out once some of the phonies leave the industry.

    Oh, my! I don't even know where to start. First off, thanks! Hit their pain points and create HIGH ticket programs for...whatever you know how to do...just never set well with me, but I thought it was just me. I also have been an online course junkie, but really stepping back. I've taken some great classes, but I've scaled back for some of the reasons discussed here. More regulation is definitely needed. Thanks, again.

    I absolutely relate to the idea that working one-on-one and doing work "by hand" is denigrated unfairly. I have no desire to "scale" in ways that are often expected of entrepreneurs - I love what I do, so I have no need to take myself out of it :)

    And the fact people who are genuinely trying to turn their career, business, or life around and learn new skills are being taken advantage of by these scammy coaches/course creators😣
    Thanks to you both for sharing this convo and bringing light to this!

    Thank you so much for this - I have purchased so many "courses" that were all videos and I really didn't learn much and I felt that I wasted my money and time. I know what my purpose is as a life coach and over the last 10 years I have not focus on it until now(just tweaking a few things before putting it out there) and everything I see or come across is all about online coaching - package it up, sell it and forget it! I prefer to interact "live" with people. I have created a program, which is a group program done via zoom once a week for 4 weeks and I'm also going to offer 1:1 private coaching after the program, with the option to do as needed basis or purchase a group of 4 sessions. I was starting to stress out about if I needed to do all the social media stuff and focus on "online" only just to make it as a coach....again, I'm really glad I clicked on this video :) thanks-a-bunch!

    So glad that you both are speaking up about all this b.s because it's easy to lose touch of reality by seeing the same tactics being used again and again

    Regarding scope of practice… if you’re following ICF ethics and the contract “template” the scope is outlined and we are advised to differentiate between therapy and your role as a coach , and also outline “what’s NOT coaching”… often coaching gets mixed up with MENTORING. Coaching is asking questions to draw out potential, capacity, productivity and self-agency / empowerment. Mentoring is when you are advising on tactics, implementation, strategy.
    This is an important topic and it’s important to get it right. Keep on, keeping on with the dialogue around this as there are many truths. 🎉🎉🎉

    Ahhh Wish I this episode who have been created a year ago before I invested a 10k mentorship ! I heard a few red flags that I wasn't aware of then. The mentorship program was good but not worth 10k, I didn't get access to the training portals and the best takeaways where that 1. I need to work on my mindset and 2. the connections and friendships I made from it. Thank you Latasha and Eva for talking about this topic which needs to be talked about more!

      Thank you so much for sharing. This is the second comment I've seen that mentioned a $10K program and I'm shook! I personally wouldn't feel right about charging that much for anything that did not offer a concrete deliverable/done-for-you service in exchange. I'm so glad we are talking about this and all setting realistic expectations together! ❤

    I love this episode! I'm not a coach but I recently bought a course that definitely feels MLMy. I like some of the content but you two are right. There is definitely a rise in the coaching industry and it's becoming more and more important to be aware of dishonest offers.

    THANK YOU for saying this!
    Firstly, Latasha is the real deal. BUT I am very skeptical of online courses/course creators because it feels like there is an abundance AND so many who haven't actually built a business. They build an audience on whatever platform and think they can create a course after they built just their own personal brand once (vs building multiple business accounts). I do feel like it went from "Everyone and their momma has a podcast" to "Everyone and their momma has a course."

    • @MareMarMarie
      @MareMarMarie 4 місяці тому

      This!!! Exactly this! Like who has actually done the work and who just got popular and sold a course in an industry they never really got a foothold or experience in.

    • @thelatashajames
      @thelatashajames  4 місяці тому +1

      Totally agree. As you know, marketing a business vs. a personal brand is very, very different. Being successful at one does not automatically guarantee you'll be good at the other. Lol at "everyone and their momma has a course"! 😅

    Thank you for this video. I was conned out of $10,000 in a coaching program that became a nightmare. The coach was a mentor that developed a trusting relationship with me over years. It created massive confusion, trauma, & it took years to unpack.

    Hey Latasha, I have a question. I am a YT scriptwriter new to the industry. And I have a background in social media management and content creation. I found out that there's this platform called YT jobs but not sure how I can start pitching without working for nonexistent clients. Can I use samples?
