You have literally saved my sanity. I got a new bike and every time I took my rear wheel off to put it on the turbo trainer the indexing was screwed when I put it back on the bike. Your video allowed me to identify that the cable was slipping as the gripping screw wasn’t tightened enough. It also allowed me to better align the derailleur. Thanks so much!

I always start with your videos when fitting new derailleurs. They give me the confidence to even begin the process. Sometimes I start, and then get impatient and go to the LBS. But this year our new bike shop owner has boosted the labor rates beyond what is reasonable and I'm committed to become a seasoned bike mechanic. Thanks for putting out what I think are the best videos!!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos. Just completed my first ground-up build from frame using GRX components. Your rear and front derailleur, shifter, and hydraulic brake fitting videos have been indispensable. Thank you so much for some of the best instructional content next to Park Tool.

Not all hero's wear capes, some make bike videos on UA-cam. I have never ever installed a group-set before and with the help of your video's, I felt comfortable to do it. What is the most amazing thing: after pre configuring the derailleurs and putting the chain on, it was almost running perfectly. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much. I've always struggled setting up derailleurs but your approach made so much sense. I was converting an old 90's mountain bike to a GRX 1x system gravel bike conversion and you saved my bacon. You're a star.

Well done & easy to follow. I especially enjoyed your British accent. You sound like a blend of southern Texas drawl & British!

Just wanted to thank you for both videos on the GRX 810 derailleurs. I've been a Sram guy for about a decade. I got a new bike and it wasn't shifting cleanly. Instead of chasing my tail adjusting stuff, I just started from install. Now I know how everything works.

Was changing my rear derailleur cabling on my GRX 812 and watched a few other video's but just couldn't get it to shift properly. Usually it would shift just three sprockets max. Then you explained that I should tighten the derailleur cable much harder than other video's explained and this did the trick for me. After this it needed just minimal adjusting.

I am going to challenge your rear derailleur tuning skills and expertise. Okay here it goes.
    Shimano GRX 810 1x set-up. 40 front ring - 11-42 SLX rear - HG701 chain. Silca Wax
So 11-28 cogs shift great with no hesitation or chatter. But going from 28-32 or 32-37 I get chatter for a second before they shift. Strangely enough 37-42 works great too. The chatter is inconsistent and sometimes the shifts are perfect. I have never missed a shift but the chatter really bothers me.
I have played with barrel tension with no great result. B screw maybe? bad cog(s) on the SLX cassette?
    Any hep is much appreciated.
    Cheers

  • @Markus_Mittermeier

Hey, super video! I reworked everything the same way, but I have a question: my cable at the back of the circuit is very stiff and the GRX switchgear can't swing freely like yours. Is that bad? Or should the cable piece definitely be so elastic that you can move the circuit loosely back and forth?

  • @jamesr1689
    @jamesr1689 4 роки тому

Do you find that your mech bounces around quite a lot of that b-screw? You can in your video that it's free to swing around on the hanger that screws into the dropout. This is what causes the noise on mine. It's is fine when there's tension on the chain but on a descent when freewheeling it sounds like the bike is falling apart!

Thanks for this great video. I have the problem, that chain makes noise on the 9th or 10th. When I turn anti-clowise and the noise is gone I have the noise on the 2nd and 3rd by switching up to 11th. I have no idea to solve this problem. Do you have an idea? The bike is almost new. Problem exists since first day.

    • @makantahi3731

check if rear derailleur/drop out is not bent on left /right or twisted, it should be straight in both axes, check if cassete is tightened properly , if nothing helps, try with different widenes of spacers between cassete rings, or grind cassete rings that make noise but are not used often

In very rough terrain, when the chain is jumping and could jump to the wrong sprocket, this lever to ON, keeps it from jumping but also makes shifting a bit more difficult.
