I love it. A very beautiful bowl. It is not always the shape, but sometimes the wood that makes a bowl great. But on this one the shape brings out the beauty of the wood.

Cedar is one of the best and offers the most rewards.
The chips combined with pine cones and resin offers some fantastic color patterns.

Lol grandma always kept grandpa's cedar shavings knotted in her old stockings hanging in the closets or laying the dresser drawers. Made him save them for her every time he did anything with cedar.

Hi Peggy. I have made bangle bracelets out of cedar. One word to the wise, cedar does not like heat. It will stress crack if you fiction polish it and build up to much heat while trying to shine it up. The thinner the quicker it will heat up. It is fun to turn. CA glue can give small pieces a very nice gloss finish. Being so soft it will soak up a lot of anything thin like sanding sealer. Nice job on the bowl keep up the great work. The bowl has a nice shape and you to. Lol. :)

I wish I could share some pics, I turn high mountain desert cedar which is way different. They are both beautiful woods, I think our cedar is a lot more chippy and not as red but it does have more grain. I turned a bowl from a 400 year old piece of wood it is awesome.

I'm only 2 months into my new adventure...taking my turn at "turning"...and going to UA-cam University to get much of my instruction. This is the first of your videos YT suggested and I can say I already picked up at least a couple of useful details. Thanks!
Now I'm off to Etsy to see what else you've conjured up.
When not on the dark side, turning lots of black walnut, I do like to hunt down some cedar if I can. The beauty is one thing. Cedar's built in "aromatherapy" makes for an altogether different experience.;-)

Another great job. Another idea for cedar shaving is putting them in a mess bag and hanging it in the storage room closet helps with bugs and gives the room a nice cedar smell my late wife did this all the time when I worked with cedar

  • @demmertp

Cedar is a beautiful wood to turn, but boy, the pink dust from sanding gets everywhere and was quite noticeable in the external filter of my air filtration system. Cracks can be a problem and ones around knots can be trouble if they go all the way through the sides of the bowl. The pink-red color will darken with age/exposure ending up closer to dull brown-red or muddy red. For some reason, all I can think of when turning cedar is a gerbil cage! Nice job! I have found that the Ack products work very well with cedar.
