I love these market videos! It’s honestly so interesting to hear from a vendor’s perspective. Also so proud of you for not undercutting yourself and knowing the worth of your hard work! I can’t wait to see how market #3 goes 🎉 #justiceforthemushieboys
Definitely don't shortchange yourself. I think your plushies are pretty reasonable. In price. Plus you have the fallback of putting them on your Etsy shop to find them a good home so it's not like you put all your chips on selling out at the markets you attend. I don't know how many markets you have planned for the holiday season but I bet your sales will increase when it gets closer to the "gift buying rush". And yes weather does play a factor in foot traffic but advertising for the event also comes into play. Don't lose heart. You can do this, girl.
Thank you for being sooo transparent! It is greatly appreciated! I have my 2nd market on September 9th/10th and your market prep videos have been great info for myself who’s very new to selling handmade items.
Thats soo crazy. I'm 14 years old and I want to start a small business on Insta with my crocheting. And I am REALLY shocked how cheap your crocheting is.8 Dollars for an octopus?! CRAZYYY. And the Turtels are soo cutee.❤
Great video!! I dunno if it's a good idea or not, but you could try focusing on making smaller/less expensive plushies for markets, but have a deal where if a customer spends like $15+ then they can be entered into a raffle to win one of your large plushies for free. That may encourage customers to buy more, and then you can spread the cost of the big plushie into the prices for your smaller ones. Feel free to ignore if it's a bad idea 😅
No I actually feel like that’s such a good idea. I definitely feel a raffle would make people buy more. And like every extra $10 spent over the 15 could be an extra ticket/name for the raffle. So the more they buy, the more likely they are to win the big plushie!
Unfortunately raffles are considered illegal gambling in many places. In the US they are often only allowed with a permit, for nonprofit organizations only.
It's a great idea, but unfortunately, it's against the government terms of service in the US. There's more leniency in nonprofits, but there's a lot of legality in such an idea
Wow! I have lots to say: 1. I LOVE WATCHING YOU AND YOU INSPIRE ME SOOOO MUCH GENNA! 2. I do have to agree last market I made a point to stock up on leggy froggies but NONE sold when last market I sold out! 3. Your stuff is all so cute! 4. Last market my triceratops didn’t sell as much either!

love your energy just wanted to let you know the o in the beginning opossum is silent. you rock and keep going to markets and youll see that every single one of them is so different.
On Saturday I was on a flea market at the village next to ours and I took some of my crochet plushies with me. I only did it „just for fun“, because I had no idea if anyone would buy anything. I was very surprised that I sold some of my crochet plushied. You know what sold best? Mini Octopi made by your pattern!🥰 But if I do a market again, I will also price up, because I sold them a little too cheap. Thank you so much for your inspiring videos!🥰
The last market we did was over 90 degrees in Indiana. It was a two day event. And on Friday we sat outside and didn't sell anything. Heat definitely keeps people from coming and buying things. Saturday it wasn't as hot, but we did eventually make some sales.
I just started crocheting and came across your videos! you definitely motivated me to keep it up and maybe I can start selling as well! Thank you girl, Keep it up!
I love how honest and transparent you are about your business and everything that goes into it. You inspired me to prep and sign up for my first market in October!
you are doing great. love watching your videos. I know that i saw another crafter professional say she weighs the yarn. So you use scales for like mail or food. weigh yarn before using without label, then after you crochet that project, weigh that same skein of yarn. this helps you know your cost by weight to better help you price things, especially since we can get yarn on sale, but i would keep your 'cost' per skein at regular price (even if you got it on sale which you can note in your finances to know you earned even more profit) but when you price the items, do it based on regular price for that yarn. I hope that is helpful. You are such a joy to watch and you are very talented. WHen you held up your "small child" size turtle which i call child-size turtle.. and hugged it, I was like, I'm 52yr old and I need that turtle~! So you are a good seller!
I don’t understand some of the comments here saying that her prices are high. The prices of the smaller pieces are actually priced lower than the usual. I myself makes and sale amigurumi plushies and I can tell you that I won’t price those hens at $10. Handcrafted items are never cheap, but not outrageously priced as well.
Hi! My first market is in about a week! I'm so excited and nervous! These market videos have been my motivation to keep on crocheting! Love ya! Bye❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my goodness, you’re soooo adorable & so are your plushies!!! I’m sure the shopper’s were mainly concert goers, so you’ll do much better on Etsy & your next market day! Thanks for sharing!!! HUGS!!!❤❤❤
It really does depend on the weather and what market you go to. I go to one that is more upscale and at night that I have made up to $700 in a night and another more local farmers market that I average about $200 in sales and its in the morning/afternoon when it's hot
Ya know how you said you where swearing to death? Well… I went to the market yesterday and my mom said she was about to pass out and my whole family had red face + my friend! Also that was when I got my first crochet plushie and for my bday I’m getting a crochet kit… I’m so exited and 🫵 you are inspiring me!
Hi Genna!!👋 Your videos are great love watching them! I have been crocheting for years and a "little" 😉 older than u...being my age I didn't think I could really start a small business but watching u and Katie being creative has inspired me to go for it!!❤ Your prices are exactly what I would charge, I find your prices to be extremely fair and less than other designers charge. Because I love u so much I did want to throw it out there that the O in opossum is silent. My dad was a zookeeper for 13 years so I am sure the O is silent...lol...unless it varies depending on where u live in the country?! Just thought of that. Anyway THANKS for being so transparent and sharing ur talents with us!!😊
Quick question how do u wash any of ur plushies like soft yarn and acrylic? If u do wash them can u plz make a video about it if u can ty love watching ur videos keep it up!
When you have projects left over from a market, it’s good to sell them on your online store, e specially if this is their second market that they didn’t sell at. People will buy them online for higher prices ❤
As someone who does markets, youre never gonna get footage during😂 i help at my friends plant business and do farmers markets and it took the whole summer for us to remember to take pics during 😂 we have a check list for once we're set up. Also! Keep bringing the big items! We had a $60 big plant that someone gobbled up on our 5th market in the first 5 mins 😂 sometimes there that one person whos just ready to throw down. Its always nice to meet that person.
I know you said it would be difficult for you to figure out, but do you have a ballpark estimate for how much yarn you use for your patterns in terms of fractions of skeins or how many iterations of a pattern you can get out of one skein?
Did anyone tell you what specifically drew them to your booth? Did the people who bought the small turtles consider buying the bigger ones before deciding on the little guys?
Congrats on the market - all the plushies are ADORABLE! this was so helpful!! thanks for the encouragement at the end lol. also love the 7 way tie - u -
