Lyrics:
The stench of zeitgeist
Is the incense of discarded shrines
As the corpses put on powder and rouge
So that the hoax can proceed, ever sidewards
A cheaped out incarnation into a shopworn sarx
The soul congeals into a grimy lump
Substance of the world, dreary and pale
At the feet of a spirit detached
Between the grinder and the abattoir
Such are the landscapes of grief
Grayness and glitz
Glitter and gehinnom
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels
A sacrifice to the gutter gods
Squandered redemption, misplaced grace
As an ailing mole burrowing in Eden
Living breathing downfall
Between the grinder and the abattoir
Such are the landscapes of grief
Grayness and glitz
Glitter and gehinnom
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels
It's a land of sun gone down
In a comical grandeur
A sluggish danse macabre
Hyenas waltzing about
Would a new flood please finally come
A real rain and an assortment of plagues
And when all is said and done
Even the Devil won't care enough to spit in the mud
Some say Mgła is overrated, but they make great black metal, so they deserve all the attention they get if you ask me.
because they are, don't understand this hype about them, they're In Flames of black metal

That drummer deserves a monument in his name
Almost got an heartattack when i saw this in my subbox... Track is 10/10 of course. Typical Mgla.
Same here! I'll be happy for a while
I am a bit disappointed. The same sound the same ideas as on the previous album. I hope other tracks will bring something new.
@@kwicher Fair opinion. But I personaly love their sound and style so much, that they could do songs like this for 20 more years and I would be happy. But I'm pretty sure that they will have some more expirimental/different stuff on this new record.
aj ne seri ovo je generika 100 posto
@@kwicher Do you want another In Flames?
Their music is so depressive it actually motivates me
Mgła is nihilist or existentialist Black Metal. Mgła isn't depressive and certainly not DSBM, if anything they are a philosophical band. Yes, if you so choose, their lyrics are pretty dark but they are not depressive unless you interpret them that way.
love your profile pic. LMAO.
@Stefan S The hoodies? Never seen them without them, never want to. One of the things that I like about black metal in the veins of Mgla, Misthyrming and Svartidaudi is that the artists do not have a "human identity" (unless I search for it). That significnatly adds to how I can experience the music and especially the lyrics.
Same - there's an inner strength that pours out from the sadness. Your hardships will either crush you or they will make you stronger.
Art
The drummer is killing it on this song
Soundtrack to the collapse of civilization, and the death of gods.
There’s still an octopus manning the drums - excellent!
That would be tentacling then
I didn't know I had the ability to click so fast a link until today.
5:08 Transition is so beutiful. Only Mgla could pull it off.
I have listen to this song so many times since the release. Can't get enough of it. There is no other band like Mgla. They got something special.
kriegsmaschine
@@---pn4je Agree to an extent. But even though it's the same members, I find Kriegsmaschine to have a more dissonant approach when Mgla is melodic.
Mgla is unique. Period
Name me ONE band with same style? Doesnt exist.
This is incredible. The layers begin to show upon repeated listens. Well placed technicality, great tension and release, moody/stoic/triumphant all at once. Can't wait for the full thing.
this is TRUE. It took me several listens to hear the hidden moments. "Age of Excuse" is a very fitting title. Its going to be another classic release.
This is on of my all time favourite songs. God damn this is amazing
@Derpster I honestly wasn't even into black metal before I found this band, and now I'm in love with all of their mgla work.
Amazing production quality and composement. All of their albums are master pieces.
I've been listening to last two albums of mgla for years, and it just never gets old
the vocals sound even better than on 'Exercises', they're rawer .... and I love it!
Same opinion...more like on with hearts towards none...I had to adjust and get familiar at first with the vocal style on EIF. The vocals were more like in Kriegsmaschine. I prefer this kind of different vocals for mgla. But this is just nitpicking here. Both projects are top notch
I often hear people say "I like x(any music genre) because they sing about real life".
Often times I hear that statement from people who like songs about how cool it is to do or sell drugs, fucking pussys and so on. Basically trap music.
Well, it means that they misunderstood life.
Life is mostly pain, with a little bit of joy, sometimes, or maybe satisfaction. But it is mostly pain.
Some people feel this pain much more than others, and Mgła's masterpieces are, for me, the best arrangement of this kind of thoughts, put together with a beautiful use of a language that it's not their mother tongue, and melodies which talk about despair, but not surrender.
I never felt like I was part of some kind of "music family".
Now I do.
Great comment. From my point of view it's a struggle in despair. This song is unique. The music makes me strong and lyrics makes me wanna cry at the same time.
Because its easier to dreamin and livin in imagination than accept cruel reality
As in With Hearts Toward None IV "Never surrender
Never retreat
In this the weapons
are our very lives
Fuck hope and godspeed"
This statement is beyond powerful. And delivered with such an indescribable emotion in his voice.
That's what makes black metal stand out from any other genre. It's about as raw as it gets when dealing with our core emotions that many like to deny are even there ... hate, anger, sadness and envy. It's about reflecting on those emotions and learning to live with them.
Great comment. I agree thoroughly.
Their music as strange as it may seem. Prevented me from ending myself when i lost contact with my daughter.. They mean so much to me
Very good to know. Hope you can look back and realise it would be a mistake. You wouldn't know Mgła for example. Keep strong.
This is weird, but black metal and mostly Mgla got me through the darkest of times when I also thought noose would be the best solution. This and running in the forest in the dark (I am a runner) made it possible for me to survive. Now, letting everything bad behind I live a much happier life and will always be a fan of this amazing band.
Don’t think it’s strange at all. I personally think dark and extreme music is a great way to vent with harsh emotions and thoughts. Regardless glad you’re still with us
damn thats deep. hope you are doing well
Right there with you on that Jonathan, my little boy was taken to Poland (ironically enough) when me and my now partner again broke up, I lost contact with him for over a year but me and his mother have since reconciled and he's back with me now where he belongs, but MGŁA and black metal really got me through some dark times. I hope you make contact with your daughter again dude, its a truly gut wrenching experience.
The drumming and the riff work so well together, it's superb
Still here...
Best "old school" sounding modern BM band ever. The clarity of the guitars is phenomenal and when combined to superior drumming and great composing... still propably the best black metal of the 21st century.
"best old school sound"? they sond like a wannabe
@@niklas2378 Define Wannabe... Old school BM bands did not wan that "wall of sound" so what the practically did was that they dialed all the bass down from the guitar, creating a really cut throug sound. That combined to the shitty gear that the bands usually used is the BM sound we know. Today bands use better gear and actually have some knowledge on how to dial the tones. MGLA is a great example on how to get raw sound without loosing the quality of it. What comes to being wannabe... don't know about that. MGLA is one of the best BM bands of the 21st century. If you don't like it the you don't listen to it. Simple as that.

Man these guys are polish but they use some obscure english words that you need google to find their meaning. 10/10
Yeah, like zeitgeist and stuff
@Mastema Tbf zeitgeist and gehinnom are not English words. Also, not everyone's first language is English. Don't be a dick :)
Zenith April, I know what you mean. As someone who speaks multiple languages, I’ve noticed I’ll use words that seem normal to me but are rare or “obscure” to others. For example, to say “I am wrong” in Spanish, you could say “estoy equivocado,” which literally means “I am equivocated.”
In Spanish, you’ll hear children using the translation for equivocated, but almost only in philosophy classes at universities will you hear it being used in English.
My point is perhaps the lyricist was using words whose polish translation are a little less obscure. Or maybe all their language teachers instilled a love for learning vocabulary. Hahah
@@kevinberstler Yeah. Polish has a lot of words loaned from Latin, so maybe they just feel natural to the lyricist.
English education in most of western/central Europe is extremely good, a thousand times better than what we have in public school/college for Spanish/French/etc. People there are pretty much fluent by 12-13 years old. Finland for example teaches English, Swedish, and Russian.
