- Quick review: I'm in the US so this review is more accurate for people without OPF. I was running this exhaust with stock downpipe and secondary cats (mid pipes). Considering it's a race system with no resonator and a small muffler, it sounds amazing at high RPM, really anything above 3k. As far as daily driving with valves closed, it's on the louder side and has a noticeable "bassy" tone between 2-3k RPM. Some people don't mind it and some do; it can be a little too much in my opinion. Once you are cruising at a consistent speed around the city it's fairly quiet. On the highway it has a pretty consistent tone between 70-80mph with some drone. I travel a lot so that did bother me which is why I ended up purchasing the resonated mid pipe from Milltek and adding it. That took away about 30% of the volume and definitely helped tone it down during normal driving. As of now, I'm waiting for APR to release their system and I will purchase that right away to make a video for people and compare it. Look our for that video once it's available for the 8Y!

Sounds incredible. However, I think the sweet spot is the 2016 - 2018 RS3 with the stock sports exhaust.

@@chasemydreams Sorry to hear that I know OPF kills all the fun! Anything EC approved I'm sure doesn't make much of a difference anyhow, you'd have to get race system like this to hear anything.

Nice ride, any more information on the radar detector being used and it's usefulness when avoiding... things with radars? (radar guided missiles obviously)
It is a Escort MAX 360c. It’s awesome. You connect it to your phone and can limit the bands so only the laser and KA bands come through. So you don’t get notification for all the random K Band notifications. It also tells you if the alert is in front of you, behind you or on the side. It has warned us countless times and is a necessary investment.

I’m also considering APR but I have no idea how it drones on comfort mode during city and highway driving. I’m also traveling a lot and don’t want the sound to bother me. Thank you!
Hey there! I actually ended up switching to HG Motorsports Bull-X exhaust. It's amazing! Hardly louder than stock with valves closed and sounds awesome with valve open. Even with the valve open it hardly has any drone at all. By far the best system for a daily driver. I will be making a video on it soon.
@@unmuffledcars Thank you for the reply! I just searched for the HG Motorsports Bull-xX exhaust and it says it's a downpipe. Is that how you have yours? Catback: Milltek race and Bull-x midpipe? I wanted to just change the catback and leave all other components stock for now. Do you have any suggestion to get more tone on valves open and have similar to stock valve closed sound? Thank you!
@@bug4099 I have the Bull-X Catback only, so stock cats and mid pipes are still on the car. I've included a link to the exhaust here. It's a company out of Germany; I ordered it directly through their site and it took about 10-12 days to show up at my house in CA. This exhaust doesn't use the OEM valves it instead has a vacuum line valve. So it will not function with drive modes instead you have a remote to open/close the valve. The difference between valve open and closed is big which is why I've been enjoying this exhaust so much.

This sounds great. I also have a non-OPF car since I live in South America. Can you please confirm if this is the Milltek system that is supposed to work with OPF? I don't see any non-OPF options from Milltek.

It's an annoying notification for pre sense (forward collision) that doesn't go away in RS modes.
I thought pre sense was when it limits power when traction is about to break. I always turn mine off and the car is way faster (2018)
Hey man nice vid. The exhuast sounds great! I just picked up my 2023 rs3 with basically every option they had. I just wish they had more sound in the exhaust. How much was the whole exhuast system plus the installation for you? Do you have pops and bangs when downshifting or just on higher rpms does the sound come out? Lastly, does this affect warranty at all or. Thanks

Congrats! At the time I ordered it, I paid around $2500. I installed it at home so no cost there. This car doesn't really do any pops/bangs as it's not tuned like that from factory. When you shift you hear that "DSG fart" much more and sometimes at low RPM you get a very small amount of burbles; noticeable at start up. This is considered a catback exhaust, it does not affect warranty. Keep in mind this being a race system and having a small muffler and no resonator, it is on the louder side during normal driving with valves closed. I'm going to add a short review in the description.

@@tylerbergman722 why? Most people would get sick of that in a day. Loud exhausts are not ideal for daily drivers, you will likely find yourself driving 90% of the time with valves closed defeating the whole idea

Where is the mic located? Sounds amazing!
Every car is different actually. We have multiple mics in different locations. Then the microphones have their own characteristics that suit them to pick up different sounds. But in general on the back of the car not that close to the exhaust. We’ve tried putting the mics right next to the exhaust. They just catch fire or the pressure blows the mic components.

US Spec RS3's have no OPF factory.

@@crank6666666 Yes, there is the main downpipe cat and then the 2 mid pipe secondary cats, one on each side.

What are the power gains with the Miltex exhaust? It sounds awesome .
Not sure exactly what they claim and I did not do any before or after dyno. From the butt dyno it feels the same

There's a few variations of this exhaust mostly centered around EU market with opf. Where did you get yours? I have a US car. Didn't know if you had the part number or details
I’m in California and ordered it directly from this site. Shipping was pretty quick, took like a week. Keep in mind this does have some drone even with stock secondary cats.

@@04svt_twinscrew Yes even with valves closed. If you want to be extra safe go with SSXAU966 model. This is the resonated mid pipe and muffler that is larger than the race version. No idea how loud it will be though, i'd assume its on the quieter side. If you want to maybe take a chance for a bit more noise and hopefully no drone, go with model SSXAU967. This is the non resonated mid pipe, but still has the larger muffler in the rear. If i were to do it again, I'd probably chose this option first. Unfortunately I can't speak on either of those systems since I don't have them, but that would be my advice. Hope it helps!
@@unmuffledcars VERY helpful. I'll take a look at them all. I think the plan is to go to a 200 cell catted main DP eventually so a more conservative catback is probably best as that will make it all louder. Thanks again!

How do you get it so loud inside? Did you remove any insulation?
This isn’t from the inside. We have several microphones and audio recorders on the outside of the car capturing the beautiful sounds of the exhaust.

Have you considered the JB4 yet?
By far the best option since the ecu is locked at the moment. They have a video of it on UA-cam and they have their dyno runs on their website for a 100% factory car with and without the JB4.
Nothing against JB4, I know they can do great things. I’m just much more of a fan of ECUs tunes for consistency. On this one I’ll be patient and wait for the ECU to be cracked (hopefully soon).
@@unmuffledcars I get that. I’ve had a few cars that I’ve installed a JB4 on and it was awesome for what it was, but I will say a tune is the real deal.
Eventually the ecu will be cracked. Some say it’s “uncrackable”, but that’s what they said about the C8 vette, Supra, other cars with the MG1.

Was unable to snag the 8y RS3 (UK dealer markups insane!) but got a launch week 8y S3 after two years of ownership from new finally got the ECU/TCU stage 1 tune from Racingline. It put the stock 310hp/450Nm to 412hp and 540Nm of torque - insane mapping, can only imagine the gains on stock 8Y RS3!!!
Edit: Forgot to add all this improvement for less that £1K! Next is intake, down pipe and exhaust!

@@unmuffledcars I think with the fact that Racingline, Revo etc all bought S3/Golf 8R the instant they launched and have been working with them ever since the RS3 shouldn’t be 2 years in the making as I’m sure the ECU locking is similar to aforementioned cars 😃
shame to hear it has a lot of bass to it even in comfort. One thing that does help is removing the fake sound added but in comfort it wouldn't help. Was going to pick this exhaust over APR or Remus. Would love to what direction you went with
We went and switched it out for a Bull-X exhaust to get less drone/bass in comfort and it did work well. Video coming in the next few days.

That sound comes from speakers but the exhaust is impressive
We didn’t record any internal audio in this video. It only had external audio. No in cabin recording. So no speaker sounds.

Leider habe ich die für den Straßenverker in Deutschland legale Abgasanlage verbauen lassen und war sehr enttäuscht! Sie hatte mit Klappe zu unter 75 Dezibel und mit Klappe offen 87 DB, inklusive HJS-Downpipe. Die originale Abgasanlage hat 99 Dezibel mit Klappe offen. Außerdem fehlte auch etwas Leistung bei einer Messung, was verkraftbar gewesen wäre, wenn der Klang gestimmt hätte. Im Innenraum hat es stark vibriert, dass in der Türtafel und in der Lichtschalttafel Teile lose geworden sind. Für mich ist diese nicht zu empfehlen, da die originale Abgasanlage einen besseren Klang hat.

@@unmuffledcars Thanks for the reply! I've noticed the stock exhaust just doesnt pop like an aftermarket exhaust. So I thought it was the tune initially that's causing it to pop.
@@ptrentertainment9617 The stock exhaust is pretty quiet which makes it harder to hear the DSG upshift crackle, but in general after 2018 audi toned them down and took away some of the factory crackles/pops. Listen to any 16-18 RS3 they sound much better even stock.

Many bmw motors sound great, but if we're talking about modern day I'd say the 5cyl sounds a bit more unique than the S58/B58 😉

Pretty sure this wont be legal in germany. So sad that they killed the sound on these gorgous 5cyl engines. What is the point nowadays in getting an rs3 when it is muffled to death and looks like an suv? No hate, just wondering. The unique selling point of this car has always been the engine/sound. I would choose an m2 over this anyday since the a45 sounds even worse than this stock🤷
It's still a very fun car to own but I do agree with you regarding sound especially for you folks with OPF/GPF. In the US we are a little more lucky, even though they are still pretty quiet from factory.
@@unmuffledcars Thanks for the reply :) I can believe that it drives way better than the 8v prefacelift since the prefacelift pretty much understeers everywhere. But yet, I chosed it over the m2 OG and the m2 Comp because of the unique sound it has and the quattro system. I also tested the 400hp facelift but it wasnt the same. That sound makes so much fun 😂 You are doing it right in the us. I dont know why they had to put in an opf here in europe and regulate the fun out of these fun cars 🥲 Always a good ride ✌️
@@Undercover1987 I have not driven an 8V to compare the understeer but you have to push this thing pretty hard for it to understeer. I've heard others say it is indeed much better than the 8V. Happy driving! ✌

I'm 23 y/o and about to purchase my first car. I want the RS3 of course but I'm stuck between the 2021 or 2023 and I'll tell you why. My priority is amazing sound with pops and bangs. I just want popcorn and sensational DSG farts kind of like the car in this video ( ua-cam.com/video/go9Akx46cMU/v-deo.html ) ...
My question is : If modified, can the new 2022/23 AUDI RS3 8Y do what the 8V RS3 in the shared link does purely in terms of sound ???? I know it's a bit silly asking this question since it's the same engine and everything but I mean, I'll be spending close to $100 000 on this purchase so I have to be sure.( context: I live in South Africa, so that should explain the price tag)
Between the 2 models ( RS3 8Y / RS3 8V), my buying decision is influenced by the sound the car can make after tune.

Hi there, as far as pops and bangs, audi does not tune the 8Y to do that due to stricter noise/emission regulations. Yes you will get the DSG fart but not any pops/bang (sometimes extremely subtle ones but that's rare). The 8V does it more from factory. Just about any vehicle can be tuned to have pops/bangs but the problem with the 8Y RS3 is the ECU is still in the process of being cracked. Until then, your option of wanting that sound is going to be tough. Many 8Y RS3 owners are eagerly waiting for tunes to become available so if you go that route you'd join the party 😁.
