It's not how he died , it's that he was always loved by God regardless of what hateful people say, a great guy good guy and fanfare to the common man proves what a good great guy he will always be.
OMG ELP changed this heartland USA kid forever. I was 11 when the debut album blasted from my brother's room. I was taking kiddy piano lessons and thought: Those drums are awesome! Then I heard this maniacal and beautiful piano, the new sounds of synths pulled me in, and Greg Lake's voice was godlike. My mother was a professional classical musician who would take me to symphony rehearsals where I just liked the loud parts. When I discovered some of the ELP themes and melodies were from the classics, it expanded my musical tastes even more. At the age of fifteen I was glued to the TV for my first glimpse of the band in action at the California Jam. Brain Salad, the mighty Moog, flying pianos, an amazing drum solo and closing the show. Wow. This band and my life are forever intertwined.

This performance set Keith free from his older constraints. His freedom gave him the margins to push his performance to new heights and intensity. I always have loved Keith and this performance allowed him to explore his utmost in working with his keyboard in a step beyond!
What a gem ! ELP in the late eighties could not have sounded better. Great Keith on all keys, great drummer - as lightening fast singles as Carl did, and with some extra spice, standing up from time to time - as well as a great and tasteful playing bass guitarist. I agree that the sound of the synths in the eighties is a bit somewhat cheesy, but I guess they did not have the budget to bring the modular Moog and the Hammond on stage. Have to watch it again - with some pot...😅 Thanks for sharing, Keith is one of my all time favorite musicians😊
ELP was my best Favourite group/& Jethro Tull/They were sensational musicians. But I think, Emerson was the best from this Band. Rest In peace/&Greg Lake too/I will Always remember and like Him & ELP.
What a great find and posting. I loved it. I think the 2 backup guys were in the David Letterman band in the mid 80s. This video was above excellent. Thanks
I don't think that's Anton Fig (drums) or Will Lee (Bass) from Letterman's band. Still not sure who they were, but they did an excellent job, for sure!
I think most pianists looking at this clip would consider his fourth and fifth fingers were already problematic for him, although it was still a few years before they could tell without looking. Can't help thinking of Billy Connoly's story of a stranger coming up to him at an airport and (after suitable polite beating about the bush) telling him that in his considered opinion as a specialist, BC should get checked for Parkinson's. Nobody else, including Billy, had any idea at that stage that anything was amiss.
Damn, that's Keith playing a synth guitar?! Watching all the people dancing animately to that was enticing and funny at the same time xDDD Thank you for that, when italian RAIDUE was still broadcasting shows of value.
@@glennhecker4422 Nevertheless, Keith continued using Hammond-like organs until his last days, more accurately, GOFF organs. That's a heavy thing like the old Hammond ones.
Frank Scully's drum solo is even crazier than Carl Palmer's, doing crazy improvised antics like hitting the toms (and the gong) with the elbow while grabbing one stick with the mouth and even hitting the cymbals so hard it flied away from the drumkit (the assistants lifted everything very fast). Must admit it was what a show, and having to compare with none less than Carl freakin' Palmer. I'd love to know what Carl would say to that. Never a drummer did a solo comparable to Carl with Keith Emerson ever.
Thanks for posting, hadn't seen this. I'm not a fan of the 80s keyboard sounds but there was plenty piano to compensate and have to say the drummer and bass player are no slouches!
@@SondrioMusica Sorry to hear that. He did what I think it was an homage to Carl Palmer with the solo on rondo. It was certainly in the level to play live with Emerson (RIP)

Who cares about the "rock and roll hall of fame"? It's a meaningless, corporate institution. Kudos to ELP for not being *abducted* into the rock and roll hall of sanitization.
My doctor said 25 percent of musicians will get focal dystonia and it's not top news. That's bullshit! Proper practicing skills need to be taught. A balanced life for musicians. Also a 6 year old kid should not be playing Mozart. Their hands and minds not ready. I'd rather see someone play for life not just a few seasons . Kieth was the greatest and his talent with many others robbed by dystonia. This disorder should be top news
Why did he always tend to play faster and faster? The result is inevitable - like here with the beginning of the 3rd movement of the Italian Concerto by Bach - it´s so fast that it ends with sloppy playing. It´s a shame as he would have been able to play it much better - but slower.
really similar version to what he was playing with the best...., that drummer ruins the hole xprience...., to hear this with carl or simon is to much incrediblen , here keith had a lot of power....

the drummer has a great rhythmic technique and feel for the arrangement. the bassist has a fine resonant tone, and Emmo, well he's the maestro!
That's the late Frank Scully on drums, who was also on Honky and played at the UK Keith memorial concert.
Love the jazz bit. Emerson was at his best at the piano.
Fantastic! I think in the first bass solo the bass player played a piece of the Mario Bros. soundtrack
Great to see his fingers in his right hand werent bothering him at this point .
