I can't stop commenting here, but come on... this ensemble is utterly magnificent. The piano playing is particularly miraculous, full of the most wonderful 'outside' lines and beautiful structures. I like all the ELP tributes but this is exemplary. Prog masterpieces performed in the most charming way imaginable.
I'm not a big Keith Emerson fan and the ELP songs that I like are all Greg Lake compositions. This is not a critique of Mr. Emerson's music, just a comment on my musical preferences. The exception is Trilogy, which, with a few edits could challenge Close to the Edge as the greatest progressive rock piece ever. So I'm always looking for an interpretation of this piece to take it over the top. I may never find it, but the performance here is very good. The singer should take lessons from the old Motown performers. Never close your eyes when you sing.
You're totally right ! Thierry Eliez is gorgeous ! lots of new extracts with the manticore string quartet and ceilin Poggi are here ua-cam.com/channels/2LEvVEPzVOtFhHYdBMkS6Q.html
I don't have any relevant comment to make, but Greg Lake, like Thierry Eliez & guests and ELP's music, have only a rather distant link with the - brilliant - music & songs produced by Motown. There are so many sidetracks, and this one is one that takes us as far as any I've known and followed with passion.
Four dislikes? What the hell is wrong with people? This is wonderfully interprative, virtuoso playing of a keyboard and piano master's legacy. I wonder if Keith ever knew how much he was truly influential on so many other players the world over like Thierry here? His interpretation of Keith's beautiful piano melodies are particularly breathtaking. To have lost Greg Lake so closely after Keith's suicide was a blow upon a bruise. It is very hard to comprehend that we will never again see such a musical force as Emerson Lake & Palmer...
The ratio for brilliant performances is always about 50 likes to 1 dislike. Horowitz, Rostropovich, Keith himself, MLK Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, doesn't matter. Sometimes it's 100-1, sometimes 40-1, but there are always dislikes. Just laugh at them for they, for their inability to appreciate greatness, are the losers.
Oh my God!!!!! This is beyond amazing. WTF??? The way he plays around with the compositions , seamlessly moving from improv to exact readings of the scores and then subtlety manipulating their harmonies and syncopating their rhythms while singing on top of it is stunning. I'm sorry it took 4 years for UA-cam to bring this performance to my attention.
Thank You Elis! This is absolutely fantastic! It's funny how sometimes real artists must change the original a bit in order to keep its "inner" untamed spirit! I prefer these renditions over any "dogmatic" cover of the original tracks. Bravissimo!
Atmosfere fantastiche!!!
Magnifique! Setlist: - Tarkus (Eruption/Stones of Years w/ scat vocals by Thierry Eliez); - The Endless Enigma I/Fugue-Improvisation-Fugue (w/ cello)/II (with quotes from The Great Gates of Kiev); - Take A Pebble-bridge-Piano Improvisations Excerpts mixed with Take A Pebble and Tank (just when you expect him to play everything Andante, he breaks out into a full-throttle ostinato at 31:00)-back to Take A Pebble (coda w/ scat vocals)-The Sheriff-Piano Improv.-Take A Pebble; - KE9 2nd Impression (excerpts, which is fantastic, sounds as though it's played at times by Patrick Moraz and Chick Corea); - KE9 3rd Impression (intro)-Hoedown; - Jeremy Bender - Trilogy (w/cello and duet with Ms. Poggi on vocals and doubled-scat vocals -- this is just stunning with a very Emersonian piano) - Encores: - Trilogy - variations w/ trio - The Five Bridges, Chorale [Emerson/Jackson] +3rd Bridge (w/ vocals), finishing with the finale of The Piano Concerto! Stunning!

my jaw is below the floor. Thierry is absolutely incredible. the whistle at "Enigma" ending was fantastic. "The Endless Enigma" has always been very special to me. the chords Keith played would strike an emotion in me I can't explain. I will forever be grateful to Keith Emerson for exposing me to European classical music. and jazz.

WOW ! Just Wow !! Keith would be proud 🎹🎶💖 And beautiful vocals.... Greg would also be proud 🎤🎸💔😢.The music of these 2 geniuses and Carl Palmer will live on forever 🎼🎶
What a wonderful Holiday Gift, discovering this gem tonight. Monsieur Eliez is a revelation. How wonderful in that, this past year, I have been returning to ELP time and time again -- especially Keith's Piano Concerto No. 1 -- and the musicianship and quality of the music has filled me with such wonder and joy. And now, this. Music: the gift that keeps on giving, for generations, for all time. Thank you for this homage. It really hits the spot.
Bravo.
Fabulous...I'm only 6 and a half mins in and its like hearing Tarkus for the first time all over again. Thierry Eliez's interpretations and playing abilities are nothing short of Miraculous!

Absolutely outstanding. I discovered recently that maybe Emerson was a little influenced by George Gershwin. Both incredible musicians. As is Thierry and friends.
Great music is meant to be interpreted How inspiring How this young phenom, who wasn't even born when Tarkus was released, can generate so much passion
Simply wonderful. You sing it so well. You play it so well. A re-discovery of so beloved classicals. Every Jazzman scoffed at me, and as a jazzman I was ashamed loving Keith's music. I can see I was wrong. Emerson is one one my favorite composer, just next to Chopin, Tatum ...
What is amazing with Emerson is that although I played and studied a lot of music, especially piano music, especially jazz pianists, I cannot transcribe or play all these songs by ear. I can replay instantly almost any music, except Emerson : chords or modulations from Bach, Chopin, Tatum, Peterson, McCoy are easy to grab for me. But I cannot figure out what Emerson plays though I know him by heart. And even if I know one song, the next one is a totally new challenge. Understanding Tarkus doesn't give you any clue for Endless Enigma or Karn Evil part 2, for instance. Almost each time, it's like if you were facing a new composer. In this respect Emerson is the most inspired musician of all time, maybe the only one who NEVER repeated himself. (I must quote the Beatles, in this case as well, but they were 2 to compose, at least !). At the Conservatory, in Paris, we study the styles : Bach, Mozart, Ravel Faure. Those who invented something which was fairly adopted by other composers : Beethoven listened to Mozart. Parker listened to Tatum. A style is something you can recognise instantly. For Emerson it's not really true, even if his harmonies are his blueprint. What's the link between Tarkus, Hang to a dream, Pirates, Close to Home, Trilogy ? Who would bet or guess it's the same composer on first listen ? Any musican, and composers especially, should study Emerson. MY CALL : It's too bad we cannot find all the scores of Emerson. How did you learn those songs ? Did you find all the scores ? Some had never been published I think. This must change : we want, we need the Emerson Book : we need all the stuff he wrote, all the stuff he played (especially piano impro live) : with the Nice, with ELP, the orchestral scores : we want the piano concerto, Pirates, Works. We want everything. Please...
The jazz guys need to understand their contribution to music has helped others develop their own style. The fruits of their tree are there for the picking.

Brilliant! I think he has introduced a new flavor, even a new style to modern and progressive jazz. Certainly a new style thanks to Greg Lake and Keith Emerson.
Merci beaucoup. Magnifique!!! Endless Engima est ma préféré!!! ...

Amazing! Would love to hear this live. Like ELP meets Manhattan Transfer.
Amazing rendition, one of my favourite bands gave me chills!
Great music is meant to be interpreted
How inspiring How this young phenom, who wasn't even born when Tarkus was released, can generate so much passion
Just..wao! ..what a great tribute to the mighty Keith Emerson🎹...and Greg Lake🎤!
This is SO Musicaiciously Brilliant!!! Keith would be overjoyed and kvelling!!! Please come to LA!!!! C'est Magnifique!!!!
Thierry Eliez quel Pianiste et chanteur Fabuleux !!!! Bravo l'Artiste !!!!
Excellent performance !!!! 👍👍👍 Not only a great tribute to Keith Emerson but for Greg Lake too !!!! Both gone to early 😞
Wonderful playing, inspiring and passionate!
MY CALL :
It's too bad we cannot find all the scores of Emerson.
Please...
He, and ELP, were and are in my soul.
The jazz guys need to understand their
contribution to music has helped others develop their own style.
The fruits of their tree are there
for the picking.
Stunning interpretations and performance, thanks Thierry 🎹👍🏻
Mervuille t'as capture le esprit du KE.
Thierry is an absolute wonder. Fantastic interpretations of Keith's incredible music.
Merci beaucoup!
