  • The 529 can be powered with standard 5 Volt USB power and that opens up a lot of possibilities. I'll put it to the test on a large board and see how long it lasts...

I have purchased a 529i, took delivery this week. So far I am able to report it is everything I wanted and more.
    Beautifully packaged
The unit itself is very robust
    I cannot detect any noise
I have run 3 x pedals with it, and after 2 hours constant running all 3 pedals, the mission battery indicator is still on the maximum 5bars. I will report further.

I believe all amps should have built-in DC power supply jacks (9-18 v.) on the rear panels to run pedals, like the Peavey invective.120 has. Just say'in. 🎵🎸

Ed Axeman I wirelessly connect to my Amp using a Shure system. But use a Mooer S10 rechargeable power supply. Works well for me.

What's that got to do with my statement? 🎵🎸

Great video. I esp enjoyed the Strymon vocal effect you made to describe the static noise. Awesome video as always. Rock on!

I am currently running a Pedaltrain Volto under my pedalboard, hooked up to a USB battery charger, so the battery always stays topped off. It powers 8 pedals and a Humdinger all day. However, with the Volto, the pedal’s power must be daisy chained. A couple 529’s under the board with a fat USB battery could be perfect for the next pedalboard evolution. Not so boring, Henning!

I have a DIY solution that works great for me. I use a power bank like the one you showed (20100mAH), a Distributor and 2 Isolators from TheGigRig, and a 5V to 9V converter that I build out of about $5 in parts. This gives me 8 isolated ports, plus 4 non isolated ports, total cost of approx $225 ($40 for Distributor, $70 per Isolator, about $40 for power bank, and $5 for voltage converter). My pedalboard has 11 pedals a total draw of about 800-900 mA, and the power bank lasts approx 10 hrs. This is my main board, and I always use it on the power bank. But, I do carry a 1Spot as a backup, and could plug it directly into the Distributor if I ever needed to. Actually, I also carry a second $40 power bank as a spare as well (attached under my board just like the primary battery. I love battery powered pedalboard solutions, but Mission's product is overpriced, and seems to have some issues.

Great review Henning! Thank you! APC has a very decent reputation in the IT world. They've built reliable UPSs for decades. There must be millions of those in server farms all around the world. I'd go for an Anker myself, too, tho.

Smart thinking designwise. Be aware that when connecting to a laptop usb port the maximum current may be too low. Just stick to a cheap power brick with 1000 or 2000 mA capacity. Or a power bank of course.

Oh boy, you think Power Supplies are boring?
They are super interesting, maybe I'll show you how fascinating they are sometime.

It's around safety, capacity degration, lifetime, waste and so on, something that should be looked into if the plan is to use batteries instead of a power supply.

Lithium. Apart from certain exceptions such as medical and some emergency devices, NiCd cells are banned in Europe for new equipment due to their high toxicity.

Lithium-ion cells are commonly used, can be quite dangerous if they aren't tested properly though.

You should review the ESP USA custom shop guitars. They are awesome! Great review, I was thinking about upgrading to a new power supply.

Do you have the link for the power bank on Amazon? Also the APC one with safety feature to prevent overloading

I'm planning on getting one of these becuase my rig is only 4 pedal for all gig situations.
All I've got is a Wampler Ethereal, wampler terraform, Kingtone duellist and a cali76 sacked compressor.
For what I'm running would you highly reccomend this? With that anker power brick

The noise you got when you daisy chained the 2 devices might have been caused by the USB cable you used. It wasn't the one Mission provided. Perhaps their cable will give you quieter operation.

Why would the Power Source be an Issue with ISOLATED outputs? The whole point of output isolation is to keep out noise coming from the power supply. It looks like the 120mA outputs are driven by a single isolator, the 500mA probably uses another one. The noise is probably originating from another pedal on one of the 120mA outs or (imo unlikeley) externally inducted.

Slightly off topic...who makes those beautiful guitar floor stands we see mainly in the background?

Does this affect the tone of a pedal at all VS plugging them in with a proper power supply like strymon or voodoo labs?

awesome review I have a question, I`m thinking about make a new small pedalboard using H9 max 500mah, Strymon Sunset 300mah, and a Disaster Area DMC.Micro 60mah Midi controller, do you think I can use this power supply with a Powerbank, without digital noises?

The usb printer style cable is not shielded so it’s probably picking up signal try the shortest one you can find ??!!

    • @saturnGEEK
      @saturnGEEK 5 років тому

Sounds more like internal signal noise. Would like to measure each of the outputs to determine what the issue actually is.

Are you saying that if I want to power two banks without daisy chaining, I have to use two seperate batteries or just one big ass battery with two outputs on it?
