    You are supposed to fill the test kit at arms length inside the water. Not from the surface.

    From the moment you add Calcium Hypochlorite( 70%) the level of Chlorine to your pool, the free chlorine levels will gradually decrease over the next 24 hours and by 6pm next day--usual time when most people add chlorine to the pool, the levels will be almost nil. Most UA-cam gurus showing how to test chlorine doesn't even mention this scenario. The timing of water testing is more important than all the little details on how to do it. On a vert sunny day, the Chlorine will disappear faster than on a cloudy day. So, when you are testing your pool water for chlorine levels take time and weather conditions into consideration.

      If you are losing all your Cl then you should think about raising your CYA level. 1ppm is good while 2-3ppm loss can happen on very sunny hot days.

    Run my sand filter pump 2 hours a day, and shock it with hth 7 in one once a week and always have at least 1-2 chlorine tabs in the float skimmer in the pool. “But” my pool is 15x48 and has a tree hanging over it and it only in use once s week yet it still gets cloudy and algae build-up sometimes a little greenish. Once I shock it it clears up only for a day though. What am I doing wrong??? I checked water stats a day after shocking it and ph is great but chlorine is 0.5!

    • @CroakerOutdoors
      @CroakerOutdoors 4 роки тому +1

      Not sure if you fixed this but test your water's CYA level. Cyanuric acid is like sunscreen for Cl. On a sunny day everything you put in will burn off in a few hours if your CYA is low.

    If you go to your local pool store there may be something on the market to kick it down. If it's a little high, I usually let it runs it's coarse and it usually comes back down in a few days.

    On Many Of These Kinds of episodes I hear that people can't lower the PH level. Things Like Soap and baking soda raise PH (lower PH=more acidic) so basically to raise the PH add baking soda or some sort of supply at pool store. To lower PH, add and acid like muriatic acid. In my pool (I dont know everyone's pool sizes mine is pretty big size) about 1 gallon lowers the PH level about 0.2

    Do you add pool shocker and chlorine tabs at the same time?

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  4 роки тому +1

      Shock is liquid chlorine. You typically should shock the pool if it is green or once a week or every other week depending on how clean the pool stays. I typically keep chlorine tablets in a float that floats around in the pool daily to keep the chlorine level up. Hope this helps you out.

      @@HomeOwnerRepair because when I filled my pool I added the floating tabs and it turned my pool green

    • @CroakerOutdoors
      @CroakerOutdoors 4 роки тому

      @@cookingwithtera6308 You need to test your water's CYA level otherwise you will chlorine lock your pool from too much tabs and shock. Your chlorine level will still read high but the cyanuric acid is binding up all your Cl from attacking and algae will multiply. Tabs are stabilized and will continually raise your CYA thereby requiring you to keep a higher concentration of Cl. The only way to lower CYA to 30-50ppm is to replace the water. Have a pool store test your water as a good place to start.

I have two chlorine disks in the floaters and just added a gallon of chlorine and it isn't showing on test, now a month ago I used 6 gallons of chlorine at a time to shock the pool(advice from my father) now, is there a reason that the chlorine won't test. the time before last I poured in a gallon of chlorine and tested the next day and it showed nothing, So I added a half more waited a day tested( wanted the ratio well mixed) nothing poured the rest in. Now that;s two gallons in 4 days, I never got any results with the discs but it did show ph without adding acid. Thanks in advance for any help, Don

    Have the same kit. You add 5 drops OTO, yellow cap for BR and Chlorine. On PH side, 1 drop first of OTO , yellow cap and 5 drops red for PH.
    Yes baking soda is cheaper than soda ash. Both do same thing, raise alkalinity of PH when testing low. To lower PH if too high add Muriatic Acid
