Thanks. I lost several Karl Foerster Grass because I let them go without splitting them. They actually need to be split or they will eventually get overcrowded and die. So every three years I make it a point to propagate new areas dividing plants. My shovel act used to be a lot better too but as the years pass I find the grass gets tougher. Thanks again. I love free plants.
That's going to look great on both sides of the walk! Thanks for reminding me that grasses can be divided up. Have 2 grasses on both sides of my entry walkway & was thinking that by the end of fall I'll probably have to remove them, but this is what I'll do instead. I don't have space for the divisions, so I'll give them to my neighbors. Can't wait to see more videos of you working on the new Tropical garden! Love the pups!!!
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment! I love how you will reinvigorate your garden and help your neighbors at the same time! I'm excited to finally have a tropical garden again !
A recent storm took out some branches from above my flower garden. Hubs took the rest down. I was sad at 1st. But, now all I think about is how much sun I will get. I have no "grasses" yet. Maybe now is the time.
Hi, I bought 3 Karl Foerster grass plants over the weekend. They are fairly large size. I didn’t know much about them so I started researching a little. 2 of the plants have most of the grass bent over. On One the grass is mostly straight up. Should I return the ones with the bent grass or will it recover? They were on a rack at the store and didn’t have enough headroom to grow straight up.
I bought one in a 1.7gal container last fall and did not have time to plant it in ground. Will it be safe to divide it when I plant it in the ground this Spring? Also, I just discovered your UA-cam channel but cannot find where you are gardening and what's your hardiness zone ( I'm in Bloomington, IN, zone 6a).
So glad you found it, welcome Grace! I’m Chicago zone 6a or more likely 5. I typically wait a year or so before dividing but I’m a firm believer in experimenting, you won’t know unless you try. I don’t see why it shouldn’t work
I bought 3 Karl Foerster grasses last fall at my grocery store of all places. Super cheap too. I planted them in the fall and they are coming up now. How often do you think they will need dividing? Could they grow for 3 years or so before you need to divide them? Thanks.
Thanks so much for your comment Elizabeth! I would say you could get away with 4-5 years before they really need it, but usually you can tell as they become less dense especially in the middle! A common plant but truly a great one!
I live in the Dallas area and have found that I have a rust fungus that has developed on the Karl Foerster Grass probably due to watering in the evening. My question is this should I wait until next year after I have cut it back to see if it comes back healthy or can I replace with new grass this year. I have been told that this rust fungus can get into the soil and simply replacing the current grass might not be wise. Your thoughts are invited..

That's a good idea. I think I will do that with my canna and lemon grass when they get bigger. Lovely dog btw. Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much! Let me know how it goes!
Great idea diving plants save so much money
I completely agree with you! It also adds more to the garden!
Hey Casey. Keep on. Your garden is amazing!
Thank you Jamal!
You are welcome. Now, it is spring I would like to see a new tour in your garden 😎

Yes Nana! Think of the possibilities! Karl Foerster is certainly a common grass but rightfully so, it's dead easy and certainly worth it!
A great reminder! Ty
Thank you Susie!

I would think they’d be okay, just my opinion

How many plants you have?

To be honest, I know nothing about rust fungus! I am sorry to be of no help!
