I had an idea to animate a paper crane folding, but didn't exactly know how I would execute that. This is a great method! I did know that having so many bend deformers would work so well. Initially, I considered making the folds by cutting a plane with the Line Cut tool then animating the vertices.
haha, we all go through those moments! If you're ready to give up on Blender and come over to the dark side, we've got loads of easy to follow C4D tutes at cgshortcuts.com
ha, was very interested with this tutorial, because had same task from client, yeas - the same bend approach the one difference is that i pick a symmetry tool to bend only one half of paper plane =) thanks Dave!
Great to hear 3119! And thanks for the tip, we'll knock the volume down for the next video;) Hope you create something cool with this! More tutes @ cgshortcuts.com
Sounds like its in the wrong orientation, try downloading the project file and see where you went wrong, might just be a case of typing -90 instead or rotating the deformer 180 degrees
I only have one bend deformer working, the second and third deformers don't follow the paper fold correctly, I really want to solve this problem, can you answer it for me, thank you very much.@@CGShortcuts
But it is FREE, just select FREE from the drop down and you get the exact project file we build in the tutorial. You can also get the example render redshift file if you need it, sales of those allow me to keep making tutorials for you guys;)
Thank you for the shoutout! It's great to see how you explained the process to get the effect.
Cheers Manfred, couldn't have done it without you! Keep up the good work mate

There's a few ways to do this, but I thought this was the easiest option
Thanks for this. This was far easier to do in C4D than in Blender and I was not once tempted to throw my fist through the monitor.

yep thats another option as well;)
yet another great tut, thank you CGS!

Thank you for the nice tutorial :)

Pretty cool! Will it still behave correctly if you were going to add a cloth deformer to add a tiny bit of thickness to the sheet of paper?
Should be fine if its only tiny
Cool stuff

Genius!
It was a lot of trial and error but I think this method is the easiest way to do it;)
Very cool! I learnt some new things with this :)
Just a little feedback that the music is a bit loud in the edit.

when i get to the final bend ( BEND 3) an type in 90 degrees the whole plane then moves, it is not locked in place. How do I solve this?
Thank you

Can you provide a texture?
All the textures are included with the project files;)
Why is the Bend deformer unable to follow the folding of paper?
Just not how it works, you could use contraints to achieve this though
