You are the only one that thoroughly explains how to attach the second half. You explain piece by piece. NOT just do it the same on the other side. I finally am able to make it correctly. Thank you for your video.
Really needed this refresher course on zippers. It’s been a long time since I’ve done them. I’m going to use fabric from an old dress, reuse and up-cycled.
Great clear instructions. Thank you. Despite making pouches with zips before I approached them with trepidation but after seeing this I think I can do them with joy not fear!
You are the QUEEN! I’m an experienced sewist but have had all kinds of trouble with the zip ends being perfect. Always a bit wonky and have searched the internet over for weeks. Everyone else’s idea made my bag better but not perfect until you. A friend gifted me some expensive gorgeous embroidered double sided upholstery fabric and finally after 7 bags, using your technique, I have a PERFECT bag. The only difference is I like to quilt mine and make small box corners but that is easy for me. Thank you and God Bless.
Being a newbie with sewing, zippers seemed daunting until I came across your video. Plenty of other videos assume too much, for me anyway, and I find myself pausing and replaying parts often. Your video explains and demonstrates the steps nicely. Thank you so much!!!!
The best tutorial of them all. And I've watched a bunch! I made my granddaughters pouches to hold their new gel pens as part of their Christmas gifts. The only thing I did that was different is, I applied interfacing to the outside pieces only. I thought it would be too bulky if applied to both sides. They came out perfectly. Thanks for sharing your video. I'm looking forward to watching your entire library. SUBSCRIBED!
I have watched a dozen or more other videos to try and get this right! Yours is the absolute best I think I’ve finally got it! So thank you and I have subscribed 😊x
Thank you so much for this in depth, very well explained tutorial. I have tried and failed so many times. To be honest, mine didn’t quite come out as it should have at the ends of the zipper, but that’s me being a beginner to sewing and absolutely no fault to the teacher. Thanks again. I will keep practicing.
Thank you for your excellent video! I have made my second zipped bag today. The only thing I am having trouble with is the sewing over the side seams where the zip cover is. I think the covers and zipper “pops” up too much, and the zip cover looks squeezed, not a smooth half covering the zipper. If you have another video that provides more info or pictures on this part, i would appreciate a link. Wish i could add a pic of my finished bag! I embroidered designs on both sides, the sewed it. Its quite pretty!
@@juliebuyse3440 lisa explained that it was likely I was sewing too close to the zipper ends. So for the next bag, I sewed the side seams but kept a couple of millimeters away from the zipper covers. You definitely don’t want to sew over them, and in fact you need to give them space to “stand proud” as Lisa described it. It worked perfectly then! The zipper covers are no longer squished, and have a nice pop up shape. Hope this helps!
I am so happy i found your vid. so clear and easy to understand.. and guess what? i did my 1st zipper pouch last night and managed to do 11 of it! ehehehhe.. thank you for sharing, love! ❤
Thank you so much. Will be making a few. I usually have problems with putting in zippers, they just don't lay right at each end, so hopefully with the tabs there it will work. Thank you for the detailed video...very helpful.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve always had lumpy corners at both ends of the zip before, so this looks amazing! I will be trying it with a piece of scrappy crumb patchwork, which is just the right side for this. Deb x 🤗
I love making these bags, but have never quite mastered the tabs and zipper part. Your tut has made it much easier to understand and the next one I make will be done like yours. Cheers and thanks from Australia
Have watched numerous tutorials on zip tabs. This is by far the best and easiest to follow. Now in the process of making a pouch and will employ this method, which by the way, finishes much more cleanly than others I've watched. Thank you so much for the great tutorial!
Very enjoyable and easy to follow. I’ll be making this bag for my daughter who is a special education Instructional aid for elementary school children. I made her a tote bag out of a school inspired print and she chose a coordinating polka dot so I’m going to be using leftover fabric from that project so she’ll have a zipper pouch for pencils and other small items.
Beautiful ❤️ Nice tutorial. Thanks for sharing dear 💕 Video quality is very good and camera shoots very closely so bigganer like me can do easily ❤ Love it💞
Such a great tutorial. I have made five slightly smaller ones (6” zip, fabric 7.5” x 5”). They are so simple and I love how the interfacing gives it stability. Thank you!
Love how you teach step by step. Thank you for this. My pouches never turned out exactly right with zippers. But, now I know how to do zippers correctiyZ
Very easy to follow ,will use your method as much easier.I discovered I had quite a few zippers I had purchased over the years ,so thought I would use them up making bags.TFS
I’m happy to have a look if you’d like to send me a photo on my email lisa@asewinglife.com Have you left enough seam allowance? If you have sewn the sides too close to the ends of the zip then there isn’t enough space for the zip tabs to come up and sit neatly above the purse. That seems to be a common mistake that people make so it might be that? Let me know as I’m happy to help 😀
Hmmmm….I think if I were doing it I would attach the rac rac all around the edges before sewing the zip on or doing anything else. Almost so that the ric rac becomes part of the fabric …you’ll need to place it in the right position so it doesn’t get caught up in any of the seams. Does that make sense? I’d love to see what it looks like. I don’t think you can post photos here but my Instagram account is @asewinglife or my email is lisa@asewinglife.com I’m excited to see it 😀
Lovely video and explanation. Do the seams at zip ends when doing the final seam all round(bar the turning gap) have to face towards the lining or towards the outers when putting clip on before machining round please?
If you were to make these in different sizes, what’s would the zipper size ratio to fabric be? For example, would you get a zipper that is half inch smaller than the bag? I hope you understand my question, I’m it sure if it’s clear enough.
I would measure the full length of the zip that you’re going to use, including the extra length at the ends I.e not just the length of the metal/plastic zip teeth. Then add 2cm or 1/2 inch for the width of the piece of fabric. Sit the zip on top of your piece of fabric to check it has 1cm extra fabric each side. I hope that helps
Hi, yes I used a medium weight fused interfacing. It should be fine with whatever you have to hand though. As it’s so small, you can use leftovers from previous projects 😀
I’m sorry you’re having trouble understanding but thank you so much for watching the channel. . I put subtitles on everything so that could help if you have those turned on ? I try to be as clear as possible. I actually thought I was speaking too slowly. It’s a tricky balancing act.
