Congrats! Always... I just wanted to jump on here: Even if you are fit, this is usually NOT how you should approach a marathon. The bones, ligaments and muscles need time to adjust to that specific type of strain and the heart does as well. There have been several recorded deaths of people who ran marathons without sufficient training (heart attacks etc.) and so many people who have had injuries that took several months to rehab because they pushed their body to a limit it was not used to.
1 year of consistent training and you should be able to shave more than an hour... easily. The secret is to increase your "easy" pace (and thus your maximum aerobic pace) by consistently doing easy and steady long runs. However, if you wanna get below 3h30 without dying, then you'll need to add a serious dose of harder workouts (weights, sprints/strides, hill repeats, long intervals,...) so that your body gets better at recycling lactic acid and maintaining good, efficient running form, even when you're tired. You have potential 👍

I clicked this video not knowing what I was getting into, but man what a great surprise. This month I started training for my first ever race (10k) in my life. I consider myself somewhat fit (regular cycling, gym and any other racquet sport lol) but most definitely not a runner, but as part of my New Year’s resolutions I decided I’d try something new and that I’d been avoiding for so long for fear of injuries or looking like a complete noob. This gave me so much motivation and even brought a tear to my eye at the end. The running community is so wholesome , I’m even more determined to take on this challenge. Awesome video !
Very well done! My first ever race was a 10K without any prep, with 0 running experience and I was crushed after finishing it. Can't imagine how challenging a 42.2K could be especially mentally

Caution to all, from an experienced 60+ marathon veteran here - do NOT think you can just go from no exercise period, to running in a marathon. Look up the story of the late Jade Goody, for warnings on that one. This looked a bit click baity to me. Looking at this guy's performance and build, he blatantly keeps himself in at least decent physical shape - even if he's not a regular long term runner. That's very different from doing a marathon with 'no training'. He's said also he ran up to 15k - so he knows what its like to run for long periods, without significantly stopping. That IS training of a sort. Good he made it, respect to him. But he's not a couch potato is blatant, so don't try and make out he's one... 🙄
I am the cameraman from the video. He’s in great shape yeah but also like genuinely outside of the occasional run he really didn’t train much. All good points you make though like me I could never do anything like this. I wouldn’t say the video is clickbaity because he really didn’t train for it
@@coolstufftodo5256quote: 'he's in great shape' ; 'apart from the occasional run'. Respectfully, you seem to have just supported what I said, via your own comments here. Again, congrats to him - but this is not someone then out of shape, and who doesn't exercise.

Lol so cool to see this. I did this in my mid 20s after my barber convinced me. I ran 5ks and 12ks in the past but a marathon as always on my bucket list. After not running for 3-4 years, my barber and I signed up for a marathon that was 1 week out. I finished in 5.5 hours. Ran for 13 miles straight and cramped up bad at the 15 mile mark. At the 18 mile mark, I just sat down and couldn't move my feet; they hurt so bad. A kind lady gave me an Aleve pill as she saw me in excruciating pain. I waited 5 min and zoomed off the ground like a horse out the gate. End result -- I was using crutches for the next 3-4 days. I could barely walk.
Not advisable but also very inspirational and lovely to watch a young man with a positive can do attitude and also very respectful and encouraging to those around him
Great job man! It’s my time tomorrow, my first marathon ever, I have ran 20 km before in a single run but I will have to make it tomorrow. Prepared for 2 months/ 3 months almost. I have to show up and do my best and complete this obstacle.
@@Memorare87 Barely managed to finish that. In 6 hours or something. It came to a point where I couldn’t run because my kidneys hurt so I just limped and walked for like 5 km. I don’t know why I hit the wall so hard. The only reason I can think of, ironically, I was prepared for a half marathon. They put me in a marathon and I couldn’t change my category. Anyway, I did it. I wanted to give up many times at the end but I fought on. Needless to say my leg muscles hurt like hell now.
@@OliverPriemer Thank you so much brother! Honestly, I was watching videos 2 days before the marathon and I stumbled upon yours. Was glad I did because when I found it hard to move forward, I thought that I am not alone. Many others have felt like me in the same scenario. So that made me go through.
I have to know, did you have any kind of Running experience prior to this and/or any exercising that you do? Because a time of 4:23 is really impressive, especially for no training.
i am a bit late to this video but it was an absolute inspirational thing to see, i admire your mental strenght and this was so nice to see, things like this make me want to keep going and chasing my goals, thanks mate❤
Man, you deserve more views. I thought I was watching a channel with over a million subscribers! Really amazing pace for no training. What’s your background? The longest you’ve ran was 15km but were you ever a runner before this marathon? I’m currently training for a half marathon, but my pace is so slow (8-9:00 min/km) because I struggle gaining weight in muscle mass… I can go as fast as 6-7:00 min/km but never sustain it because they feel like sprinting to me. Anyway, I hope you keep posting more videos about running! Love what you said at the end of the video. Hoping that marathon turned you into a runner for life!
Same, training for my first half but I'm hoping to finish in the 3 hour cut-off time. Most half marathons where I live are even with a 2:30 cut-off time which means that's too fast for me even with consistent training.. They say super slow but steady runs make you faster in the future so I'm just hoping that's true lol. At this point I'm just too slow to sign up for a full marathon here.
@@reunionrocker3482 Not too sure about that. At big marathon events there's more untrained people at the starting line than you'd think.. They don't put it on UA-cam but they definitely brag about it to friends, family and coworkers. Is it good for your body? Absolutely not. But if you have a good base endurance (can be from whatever other sports you've ever done) and you dose it very well by not starting way too fast the hardest part is the mental part.
@@TON-vz3pe Never trained enough? Lol I'm a runner for nine years but yeah tell me I never trained enough. 😂 In my opinion it's a dumb thing to do any distance over 10k untrained. But I definitely know people who did.. On a low heart rate (which depends from person to person) even non-runners can run for hours. The problem is that their muscles aren't used to it and they end up in pain. Some people can mentally block that pain out and deal with it after the finish line. It's risky because they can injure themselves for a long time.. (I'm not one of those people who can block out that pain though. Plus I don't want to injure myself. 😂)
Bro I’m over here doing a 5k in 29 minutes and i feel so sick after then your over here not training at all and doing a whole marathon that’s straight respect 🫡
Inspiring mate! well done, incredible what you can achieve putting mind over matter having not trained. Definitely giving me the idea to tackle a marathon!
For anyone watching this thinking they don't have to train to do a marathon: please train. To pull off something like this, you're likely in pretty athletic shape already with no pre-existing health conditions. If you're considering a marathon, please train for it.
Needed this. I developed ITB syndrome and thus will have to now do the London Marathon in a month with very little training beforehand to ensure I don’t injure myself further.
I don't even follow you, but your video was recommended several times by UA-cam that I decided to watch. I'm very happy and impressed by how good and well you were able to finish the marathon. But I feel like I should say that this is not the reality for most people and it's dangerous to put your body into such an stressfull activitie without a minimun amount of training. Becareful the next time and don't encourage people to do the same, to most of them it can be very bad.
I did this once, well it was 22 miles with at least 15000 feet of elevation and hot while carrying 6 liters of water, I did absolutely 0 preparation. It was the high line hike in glacier national park, I did stop once for like 20 minutes, but that was it, by the end I was in an absolute immense amount of pain. With genuinely every step, I felt like an ancient 112 year old getting out of bed for the first time specifically in the last mile, every part of my body that could hurt felt like it gave out, they did give out but I just kept going, idk if I should have done this but I was fine after. I sat down for 2 horus, then I could not get up, I limped everywhere, even 5 steps(I couldn't walk farther than that) was extremely painful all over my body.
Yo that’s insane, congrats on your full marathon! I had zero experience training for a half marathon and only started training 7 weeks before the half marathon. I finished with a 2:08 time and hope I can be faster. It’s been one month and my latest half marathon time was 1:48 😅
I don't want to brag here but I bet I could pull this off too. I've done a half marathon with honestly some half assed training and still did it under 1:40. Admittedly I have a pretty good baseline condition, and like to do running, biking etc in general. Also I have a BMI of under 20. If I do running for 2 hours around 10 KMs an hour it's slightly harder than just walking for that amount of time. I just wonder what will happen after the 3 hour mark when supposedly the glucose level goes down and I have no idea what my muscles would do. I've never gone beyond 25 km really...
Well done for being prepared to be seen possibly 'failing' (which you definitely didn't). We're really seeing you become tremendously confident and grabbing life in your terms. Excellent.
I did this same thing when I was 17. The furthest I had ran in a day was 25km. I decided to run a marathon that was a week after my spring track season. I knew nothing about "bonking" and ran the race with no food. I bonked at about 30km and just had to walk. I walked no more than about 10 steps when a gentleman started walking next to me. He ask "did you hit the wall?" all I could do was nod. He handed me a banana and said "eat up, I will see you at the finish" and he ran off. I ate the banana and instantly felt better. Started running again and I passed him about 5km later. Ran a 3:40. Saw the gentleman at the finish corral and told him thanks. He laughed and said "I meant that I would be at the finish first, I wouldn't have given you my banana if I knew you would beat me." I ran 3 other marathons over the next few year (without training, because I was young). I would be sure to bring some food, but I would get a banana from my mom or a friend along the course and be sure to pay it forward to someone else during the "bonk zone" of the race. I never broke 3:30 in the marathon which is no surprise with out training. I was blessed with natural endurance. Unfortunately a partially torn ACL ended my endurance running days before I could grow out of my "meh, why train" phase.
Pheidippides didn't train for those 40km but...that was his job, a messenger, in his last 3 or 4 days of life it's said he ran +250km and fought in a battle, at the end of which he ran those 40km to deliver the message of the victory, dying after (the 'original' Marathon > Athens is 40km, the 42km were introduced in the first modern olympics for logistics purpose) Congrats and thanks for the message! i've ran 25km max but am currently starting a workout schedule for my first marathon
Im currently training for a marathon and I clicked this video and when I saw it I was so surprised it was from moncton my home province. I used to drive by that running club store all the time and recognized it right away it was like 5 minutes from my grandmothers house. I think its cool that you ran the marathon without training, but from what I saw from your other videos is that you played soccer and were already in pretty good shape so for you I think its ok, but a guy who doesnt play other sports or who is normally active wouldnt make it without causing health problems. Anyway Im excited to run my first marathon this Sept in Montreal! I just registered today and I started an 18 week Nike Marathon training plan thats on an app with an audio coach to guide you through the runs a week ago. Im already in quiet good shape, I get mostly 10'000 steps per day and love long distance walks so I just need to get back into running. Im probably going to do a run walk run method. I hope I make it to the end as my last two sporty goals were to go sky diving and run a marathon. I even went to the library and borrowed 35 books about running, marathons, marathon training and runners biographies. My goal is to finish reading them all before I run the marathon and will be an expert on the topic by the end of it. Im not very good at making youtube videos anymore but maybe I will write and article or a book about my own experience training for the marathon after it.
I was a little surprised they allowed you to wear your bib on the side. Normally it is how they announce you when you come into the finish line. Great job!!!

Just watched and congrats! I've got 27 marathon under my belt and was super nervous for you, but loved your attitude of encouragement towards others on the course. Great job!
I am blown away. This video popping up in my recommended feed is very timely. I've plateaued with my 5ks and really want to do a 10k next year, but have felt discouraged. I have another 5k next weekend and hope I can breeze through it. I will think of your strength as I run!
I hope you go for the 10k in 2024!
You can do it brother!
Hats off to you. I just saw this video and just know that what you did is truly an inspiration. I'm running my first marathon in May and this is exactly what I needed to help keep going.
This is incredibly inspiring! Congrats! For the first time, I signed up for a half marathon just a little under a month before the race. It’s coming up in two weeks and I have no prior training. Everybody I have told so far thinks I’m crazy. I hope I find the strength within myself like you did to be able to power through. Thanks for sharing your experience! I finally feel like I have at least a fighting chance haha
How did it go?
@@20sur20edu it was so liberating! I made a promise to myself just to never stop and just to keep going no matter what! Even though I didn’t finish with a super impressive time, I kept my promise to myself and made it! Thank you so much for your video and inspiration! It really made me believe in myself when even others wouldn’t! Actually, I am planning to sign up for another half marathon by the end of November too! 😅😅 This is sort of like the start to a lifelong marathon that your content helped jumpstart! Thank you!😊
@@octave9029 awesome to hear, by the way I am not the content producer of this video. Was just curious as I have a halth marathon to run end in a month ...
Dude, this seriously was a beautiful video. I was so hooked in the entire time - amazing insights, thanks so much for making this. Hope you find the time to create more amazing works of art like this! I'm these impact more people than you realize, certainly did for me. Cheers!
Hey thanks for this comment man. Not sure if or when I'll get back to filming videos, but it was a pleasure making them.
Oliver, you did extremely well. Very proud to see this. I did 30 ish Marathons and 7 Ironman's and other bollox myself. And what I often see is guys over - pacing from the start. You did well starting slow. This is how exactly it works. Fantastic job you did! Keep up!
you have serious running potential! You'll also find through running that the running community is one of the best communities around full of genuinely good people. Hope you keep up your running journey!
Congrats!!! Thats an insane time for not training!, i ran my first marathon last year in 3 hours 29 minutes
how much training did you have? did you have do any smaller ones before?
Dang. That is fast
I endorse this caution! You know what you're talking about.
Jup I never ran in my life, ran 3k Yesterday and felt Like I was dying afterwards
@@pennylane8936 well done you 👌 if you've no pre-existing medical conditions, it will get easier with training, and building it up gradually over time.
The first time I ran a mile, I was exhausted and felt I was nuts to do this immediately afterward - but keep at it, it gets easier 👌
Awesome video I’ve been training for months and I won’t come close to your time/much respect!!! April 30th my first, OKC marathon I’m shooting for 5 hrs
Best of luck:) You may surprise yourself!
Finish line, not finish time, all important especially for your first.
Great video and great performance. WOW! Liked the "you're killing it" guy LOL. You are a beast and ate that marathon up for breakfast. Best of luck if you tackle any other life obstacles.
Dude. Just ridiculous not only that you finished, but with a great finishing time as well. Congrats and mad respect for this!
That's real kind man, thanks😁
Great video and loved the emotion in your face when you realized what you did. Just randomly cam across this video and realized it was Halifax…. Loved it… I’ve been on a healing journey from ptsd and recognized a voice in this video… that pace bunny is a Dr in the area and has helped me and been such a wonderful motivation for me in my journey. He is a bright light in this world and just simply a wonderful human being. He is very passionate about running. I can’t wait to see him next week and show him this video. 😊
Thought this would be comedy, turned out inspiring. Good job man! Also nice to see supporters from the streets. Excited to run my half!
This video made me tear up. Just wow. The humility. The challenge. The motivation.
you are so inspirational. that timing is insane for no training. you are a living example of setting your mind to complete something - and absolutely smash it out of this world!!! crazy
Top 100 is elite 🔥 imagine if you trained you’d be top 30 easy maybe even higher
YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB! I ran 5k at the BlueNose Marathon 2 years ago probably the same time as you. I wasn't trained as well but it motivated me a lot. (I am overweight and not fit lol) Now I saw your video. It motivated me even more. That experience was amazing. 2 years later I am preparing for Warsaw Half Marathon now. Thank you for this great video.
Congrats brother, I’m doing my first Ironman in less then 30 days, only been training for 4 months but I’ve given it my all, I’m coming back the 19th of November to tell you how it went, Ironman Mossel Bay South Africa here I come
Ironman...now that's a whole different obstacle. Best of luck to you.
how did it go?
@@daviddivad777 He got 7:17:55, which is pretty good!
Awesome Oli. Congrats on finishing your first marathon in an amazing time as well. I'm sure it would not be your last.
I've never ran more than a half marathon but completed three full IM. Maybe that's something you should do next. If so, good luck.
Amazon editing on this video, dude! Also, I’m more motivated to do the Bluenose, at least a 10k (I have no excuse, I live in downtown Halifax).
Thanks man:) Go for it!!
I got tired just watching you run!! LOL Proud of you! You're extraordinary and inspiring!! Thank you for sharing your experiene.
i think you’re crazy but also awesome for doing this. watching you run it was so inspiring and motivating and you really did good for someone that didn’t train for it
Great job! You are so inspiring!! I've got my first half marathon in 9 weeks and currently training. The mental headspace is an awesome and intimidating place to be in, but am learning to enjoy it.
Well done Oliver, great job on completing the marathon. 💯🏅🤙📣Thanks for the encouragement also to get out there and face challenges, I appreciate that very much 🙌
Your message at the end sums it up perfectly.
Running a 50km this weekend after 16 weeks training and will be aiming for under 5 hours so it's good to her about getting past objects and pushing the mental and physical barrier.
great run and truly amazing performance without training, Oliver. Didn't expect you to be a good runner given your last sports video lmao. Now you could continue with running videos and gear tests and the like
not a runner by any means. not even close. i’m preparing for my first half next month and the goal is to run a full next year! thank you for the inspiration Oliver. i love you brother thank you 🙏🏾
when i saw you cassually beat my half marathon PB without training that i spent two months preparing for i was mad..... 😂 amazing video and achievement, really like your energy and attitude!
Dont belive everything you see on the internet...
Not advisable but also very inspirational and lovely to watch a young man with a positive can do attitude and also very respectful and encouraging to those around him
Great vid Oliver! Looking forward to following all of your adventures on UA-cam and instagram!
I loved your summary, and great job on completing the marathon!
This video is amazing. Thank you for sharing this experience and for your words of encouragement. Major respect for ya, sir. Way to go!
Respect Oliver! Awesome job, and a big gratz from Denmark!
15k mark and you're just starting to feel it?
untrained?
whatever you say fella 👍
Wasn’t going to do a run tonight… here I go 😊. Thanks for the video, bud.
Great job man! It’s my time tomorrow, my first marathon ever, I have ran 20 km before in a single run but I will have to make it tomorrow. Prepared for 2 months/ 3 months almost. I have to show up and do my best and complete this obstacle.
How did it go???
@@Memorare87 Barely managed to finish that. In 6 hours or something. It came to a point where I couldn’t run because my kidneys hurt so I just limped and walked for like 5 km. I don’t know why I hit the wall so hard.
The only reason I can think of, ironically, I was prepared for a half marathon. They put me in a marathon and I couldn’t change my category.
Anyway, I did it. I wanted to give up many times at the end but I fought on. Needless to say my leg muscles hurt like hell now.
Congrats on finishing the marathon!! Completing that race is something to be seriously proud of. Most importantly, you fought through it.
@@OliverPriemer Thank you so much brother! Honestly, I was watching videos 2 days before the marathon and I stumbled upon yours. Was glad I did because when I found it hard to move forward, I thought that I am not alone. Many others have felt like me in the same scenario. So that made me go through.
Running at 6:40/km pace for 21K without stopping or breaking a sweat! Yeah, I have serious doubts you haven't trained at all!
I have to know, did you have any kind of Running experience prior to this and/or any exercising that you do? Because a time of 4:23 is really impressive, especially for no training.
Great job! Keep running man. Do not stop! What matters is not the goal but being able to run.:)
i am a bit late to this video but it was an absolute inspirational thing to see, i admire your mental strenght and this was so nice to see, things like this make me want to keep going and chasing my goals, thanks mate❤
Clearly the guy has trained. This video was just click bait.
@@Astridrunstell me you never trained enough. People cannot run a marathon just like that
@@TON-vz3pe Never trained enough? Lol I'm a runner for nine years but yeah tell me I never trained enough. 😂 In my opinion it's a dumb thing to do any distance over 10k untrained. But I definitely know people who did..
On a low heart rate (which depends from person to person) even non-runners can run for hours. The problem is that their muscles aren't used to it and they end up in pain. Some people can mentally block that pain out and deal with it after the finish line. It's risky because they can injure themselves for a long time..
(I'm not one of those people who can block out that pain though. Plus I don't want to injure myself. 😂)
This was awesome to watch way to go man !
You were polite to volunteers and supportive to runners 🙌🏻
The collective NO to you saying that you had coconut water 😂
Loved your thoughts at the end, inspirational stuff man
Bro I’m over here doing a 5k in 29 minutes and i feel so sick after then your over here not training at all and doing a whole marathon that’s straight respect 🫡
oh my god all the people at the side of the road doing all sorts of cute stuff to cheer on the runners, they're just adorable I love them
Inspiring mate! well done, incredible what you can achieve putting mind over matter having not trained.
Not gonna lie this made me smile with joy.....ive my first marathon in may next year nervous and excited at the same time
I did this once, well it was 22 miles with at least 15000 feet of elevation and hot while carrying 6 liters of water, I did absolutely 0 preparation.
This was awesome, very inspiring, well done! 👏
Yo that’s insane, congrats on your full marathon!
I had zero experience training for a half marathon and only started training 7 weeks before the half marathon. I finished with a 2:08 time and hope I can be faster. It’s been one month and my latest half marathon time was 1:48 😅
Wow, excellent work! Enjoy the miles!
This guy is so underrated like i watched this whole video thinking it had like 3 million views 😂😂
Excellent.
I didn't expect that , great job man !
I never ran a marathon it's really cool to see all the people encouraging you 🙌
What an achievement!!! Cried my eyes out at the end!! ❤
I love this video! The perseverance is contagious! 💪
He laughed and said "I meant that I would be at the finish first, I wouldn't have given you my banana if I knew you would beat me."
I ran 3 other marathons over the next few year (without training, because I was young).
I’m training for my first marathon and I’ve never run before last week. I’m super excited. I have about 6 months to train, I know I can do it!
Pheidippides didn't train for those 40km but...that was his job, a messenger, in his last 3 or 4 days of life it's said he ran +250km and fought in a battle, at the end of which he ran those 40km to deliver the message of the victory, dying after (the 'original' Marathon > Athens is 40km, the 42km were introduced in the first modern olympics for logistics purpose)
Congrats and thanks for the message!
i've ran 25km max but am currently starting a workout schedule for my first marathon
Okay now THAT is a good thumbnail
It looks like shit tbh 😭
Amazing job Oliver! You really should be so proud of yourself
Loved how you encouraged other runners on the way! No idea how you dropped your pace nearer to the end! Well done! How was your recovery? 🎉 🏅 👟
Awesome video! Very well done and executed! And that was an amazing time! Hope you can gain more subscribers
That is so impressive for someone who has done no training
I was a little surprised they allowed you to wear your bib on the side. Normally it is how they announce you when you come into the finish line. Great job!!!
Nicely done man. I bet the feeling of crossing the finish line must've felt amazing.
This is probally the best small youtuber🔥🔥
Just watched your video .. loved it bro! Well done 🙌🔥
You're amazing. I don't think I can finish a Marathon without any training at all.
Enjoyed this, and you have just the necessary brand of humour and personality for this. I was laughing at how you side eyed that black guy who was smoothly sprinting next to you. However, you also did amazingly for someone who didn't train. You get high score from me for that and new Subbie here. I'll check out your other vids. I'm hoping to run a marathon next year, This year was solely focused on training for me.
This video was really really entertaining to watch ❤️
Very inspirational! Great accomplishment and awesome content :)
Well the title worked and pulled me in! 😂 Enjoyed the video and a great achievement but you were clearly in decent shape already and used to running mid-longer distances. I done one marathon in my 20s and didnt finish as strong as that after training for months and hit the wall after 21 miles despite running that distance several times in training. As I say dont want to bring down the achievement but i was expecting some dude who had never ran before at all when i clicked on the video 😂. All the best 👍🏻
I don’t mean to sound rude or selfish… but does anyone else training for a marathon feel degraded right now?
A bit. But kudos to him and he doesn't show the aftermath.😂
It's about the work you put in being off the court, not on.
Wow Oliver, you keep setting the bar higher for yourself, am impressed
Good to see you rage against the dying of the light
