      This "most underrated ...." stuff is one of the most overrated quotes ever. Underrated by whom? Bu the Heartbreakers fans? By the Travelling Wilburys? People who play guitar - not shredders!!! - know that Mike is soooooo good. And he belongs to the "100" list of great guitarists in the rolling stone. What do you mean by "underrated"?

      I'm with ya....right about the time I started learning guitar in 81 or 82' MTV had Tom Petty on and The Waiting was my favorite song...and I fell in love with Mike Campbell's playing and tone....those Rickenbackers!!! It's funny looking back how they were kind of an underground band. Now, one of the most popular bands of all time!!! RIP Tom

    • @Ghoopty
      @Ghoopty 4 роки тому +1

      Ian Snyder Agreed. Tom’s death (feels more appropriate to use his 1st name) hit me harder than any rock and roll death. If there was a Mt. Rockmore, he’d be on it. And Goddam Mike Campbell is a bad ass!! The perfect guitarist for Tom Petty. I love all the hits, but one of my fav underrated songs is “Dogs On The Run”.Take care🤘

    Not to sound contentious but the thing I really admire about Mike is he keeps growing as a player and his chops are next to none. A lot of legendary players tend to flatline at a point and just cruise there but Mike, Joe Walsh and Frampton comes to mind as well, just seem to keep an active enthusiasm and interest in playing which shows imo

    I really like how they give a hint of every song he mentions. It’s like “oh, yeah. That’s the one!”

    Mike is an incredible talent, and a class act musician. I think he’s the most underrated guitar player of all time. He deserves far more credit for his skills

    His speaking voice even sounds a little like Tom Petty. Such a cool player

      My favorite guitar player. He mentions Short bridges to get from point a to b. His notes are Memorable sounds, I love it. Best wishes to Mike❤❤😍

    Mike has been Top Dog for decades now.....an absolute LEGEND. Was an honor to catch him with Tom and the Heartbreakers @ WPB in 2017...mere months before we lost Tom....one of the greatest memories of my life. His tone was MASSIVE! We love and miss you everyday Tom.

    To me he's everything a lead guitarists in a rock/pop band should be. The perfect pairing of g harrison and scotty moore

    Great clip. Best rhythm and only rhythm section still alive from the old days? C’mon Mike, how about Paul & Ringo!? Haha. Of course, they don’t play together very often anymore, but still. Mike is a talented and genuine guy.

    Best guitarist, probably my all-time favorite...look at all the incredible songs Mike has played on.
    Hey Mike, don't forget to come back up to Bakersfield with The Dirty Knobs. Take your pick at The Fox, The Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame, or outdoors at our cool amphitheatre, or at a small club. Love to have you back. Maybe for some Blue Stingrays tunes too???

      They'd say the same thing about each other but don't fool yourself, there would've been no Heartbreakers without Tom.. Mike and all the guys are insanely talented but Tom made it happen.
