I own two TP albums. Casual fan. Went to a show in '07. Knew every song. Mind blown. Grew up on FM in the late 70's into the 80's. If you have a chance to see him, GO. It is a guitar extravaganza. A fellow pair of guitar geeks called out the guitar changes (every song). The Broadcaster was there. 3 hours of great hit songs and deep cuts. MC's playing brings tears to my eyes. So tasteful.

Mike has always been one of my favorite guitarists from way back. Always was in love with his sound. Always will be. People don't seem to bring up his name enough, as far as I'm concerned. He and Tom are perfect for each other.

I agree! Such great licks and solos, too. He doesn't over do it and always seems to come in with the perfect lead lines. He's actually a really good guy to learn from for those exact reasons.

Played some Petty today with a band, and looked up Mike Campbell’s tone after fumbling through different pedals, a VOXAC30, and a few classic Gibson’s and Fender’s. I’ll be sure to mortgage my house, get a loan from the bank, and sleep in my car to have all that cool stuff to get the sound of The Heartbreakers….. In all seriousness, this guy is The Man for gear and care of all of it. Really enjoyed the cruise through axes and amps. Long Live Tom Petty. Looking forward to see what Mike does with Fleetwood Mac.

Thanks for This. Awesome Video. Saw Bob Dylan at Lang Park outdoor football stadium Brisbane Australia in 1984(?). Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were Dylans Back-up Band. So The Heartbreakers played a 2 hour lead up set, then backed up Dylan for another 3 hours or more ...... So Non-Stop for 5 Hours ..... During a Cyclone(Hurricane) of Flooding Rain. That night Mike Campbell became my favorite Guitarist, His Lead break on Refugee went for 15 minutes. True Professionals.

I totally agree. Those Neutrik "Quiet Jacks" are tons better than the ones from D'addario with the button. My D'addario cable ALWAYS mutes itself when I don't want it to. Always.
The unfortunate part is my D'addario cable has the lowest capacity of all of my cables, including the Mogami. So I still use it often. I may switch the jack with a Neutrik jack to make it a little better.

    * B-Bender - a guitar accessory that enables a player to mechanically bend the B-string up a whole step. The resulting tone sounds like a pedal steel guitar and contributes a "country" feeling.

Oh HELL YES!!! Mike is unbelievable. Have you heard the live version of 'Runnin down a Dream'? there's a video out there, i'll send it to ya if you can't find it, a video of Live footage of Tom Petty and the muthafuckin Heartbreakers, coming back onstage for an encore, and they do 'Runnin down a Dream' and Mike has a 5 minute solo before they end it!!!!

I just found and bought an old Line6 MM4 Modulator just like Mike's! The one with chorus, tremelo, leslie, flange.

Just so the record is set straight, that first Rickenbacker that they pick up is a standard post-1964 360/12 in FIREGLO (mid-60s vintage I'm sure). The other one is a 360/12 double-bound, I couldn't tell you the year, also in fireglo. A 370/12 in Mapleglo would have 3 pickups and be a blonde color. There are not, to my knowledge, any 375 12-strings, as the "5" on the end would mean it has a whammy bar.

Really interesting how Mike uses those small Tweed Deluxe and Princeton amps and Tom used largely bigger amps like his red Marshall, the Vibro King and the Bassman.

I happened to pick up one of those Excelsior amps on sale at GC for $200. I figured, a 6V6 amp for 200? What the hell? That thing sounds great. Then I see Campbell uses one. Feelin' pretty smug about now ;-)

Great guitar collection. I am surprised there are not more teles on the road. Pedal board very straight forward though.
