Model File to 3d Print - A Beginners Guide to Using Cura (3d Printer Slicer Software)
Вставка

- In this video I will show you how to convert an STL or model file into g-code for your 3d printer. The files you download are not in a format that your printer can use. You need separate software that takes these files and converts them into g-code. I will show you how to find, download and use Cura 4.12.1 to do this job.

Glossary:
3mf - A file type designed specifically for additive manufacturing (3d printing). It includes information about materials, colours, and other information that cannot be represented in the STL format.
G-code - Geometric code used by CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. G-code instructions tell the printer motors where to move, how fast to move, and what path to follow.
Model - 3 dimensional model that you wish to print. These come in many different formats but the most popular are STL & 3mf.
Slicer - Software that converts a model into G-code instructions for your 3d printer.
STL - Stereolithography file format. STL files describe only the surface geometry of a three-dimensional object.

This video helped my 10yo troubleshoot the 3d printers in his school’s STEM lab. He’s been frustrated because none of the teachers understand how to fix them. After watching this, he was able to identify the different steps necessary to get them working rather easily. He said “Daddy make sure you like and comment on that guy’s video and then subscribe to his channel.” Mission accomplished!
Awesome, so lovely to read, thanks👍
that's inspiring comments
@@RickyImpey Update to my previous comment: The benefactor of my son's STEM lab noticed his determination and wrote us a check to purchase a Flashforge Adventurer 5m. It's been running non-stop since we got it and I think we'll be spending a lot more time on your channel from now on! Thanks again for this info, you never know how it will directly or indirectly help someone in discovering or advancing such a cool passion.
Oh wow! That's amazing. I really hope you and your Son enjoy your new printer. I gave my 5M Pro to my nephew and he is the same, printing non-stop since he got it. It's so rewarding to see the next generation learning to use these tools as they will end up doing far more with them than we will.
Ricky, I have watched hours upon hours on how to use a slicer. I have learned more from your 11-minute video than I ever had from other tubers. Thank you!
Awesome, really glad you got something out of it👍
I’m 6 minutes in and already know a ton more. Other UA-camrs say “copy these settings” and then don’t explain anything. And since there’s no perfect priest for everything we want to print, it fails and I get discouraged. Not here. Subscribed, and thank you for the content.
Same
Me as well great job
Yes fantastic
Just got my printer, and boy am I glad this is the first video I came across. THANK YOU for all the preventer trouble, I’m seeing all these comments and feel blessed
Never thought Saul goodman would be giving me tips on 3d printing. You rock man, helped a lot! Cheers
I am 100% clueless and completely new to the world of 3D printing, I received my new Ender 3 in the mail today and I spent hours watching videos, googling terms, etc. Then, I found this video and I am so glad that I did! I have learned more from watching your 11 minute video than I have from the endless hours of scrolling and watching other videos, that only left me more confused and with more questions 😐 after watching this video, I am now currently printing my very first successful 3D print and I feel so accomplished! Thank you so much for creating such informative and awesome content!
Awesome, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. People like yourself are the reason this channel exists. It's great to hear that a video helped 👍
I teach high school students how to 3D print. I find your very helpful as an introduction. I plan to start using it right away. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
That's great to hear, I always try to make things as simple to understand as possible so hearing that someone is using it to teach is extremely rewarding. Thanks.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! OMG! Your video was so great. I love how you kept it simple for those of use new to printing and slicing. Other videos are good, but the presenter often goes off in other directions and talks about things a newbie wouldn't have learned yet. It was great how you stopped at those points where a more experienced person could follow, and said things like "I'm not going to leave that standard to keep it simple." And then you did things like demonstrated with a simple first build. I'd already done a 3dbenchy that was already in gcode. But thanks to your video, i now understand the concept of why and how I need to slice to convert to gcode.😄
Awesome, thanks Craig! I hated the way I had to watch a ton of videos to just try and get the basics when I started. People forget that you don't need to know everything to get started, you will find the other stuff when you are ready for it. Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know, I do weekly videos and want to help people with more of this kind of thing. Thanks for leaving a comment 👍
Literally watched SO many VIDEOS trying to understand why the stl file just won’t work and print. Thank you for giving an actual solid foundation to my 3d printing understanding
Glad it helped!
Excellent walk through. Easy to understand, especially for a newbie to the 3D printing world. You aren't using odd jargon and aren't drifting off into odd examples that end up confusing.
Wow thanks. 12 minutes ago i knew nothing about how you get a design to the printer...12 minutes later I now know what's required and where to go regarding programs, etc. This is a massively straight forward and easy to understand direction for us newbies, thankyou.
Thanks for your comment. I'm really glad the video helped
Just built my Neo today (1st Printer) 10 mins of tweaks and the boat started printing, came out perfect ! Your the man :)
By far the best starter video I have found. Thank you! Subscribed !!
This was a massive help. Starting this hobby seemed very daunting, but you just helped me understand SO much. Thank you 🖤
Incredibly helpful for newbs like me and my son. We were feeling a bit overwhelmed until we watched your video and now we're starting on our first print! Thank you so much!!
Great to hear👍 Enjoy!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, LITERALLY THE BEST, SIMPLEST, AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND VIDEO EVER!!! YOU'RE AMAZING!!!
Just bought an Artillery X2 and stumbled across your videos about bed leveling and this slicing. That helped so much to understand the way of printing 3d models. Thanks very much.
I'm very new to 3d printing and had no knowledge about slicer software. I was a bit overwhelmed buy this video perfectly explained what I needed, and what the software does. Thanks a bunch :)
Thanks for making this! I just setup my Ender-3 V2 Neo the other day, and using your instructions I was able to successfully print the calibration cube using Cura, in addition to a filament guide that the video I watched to setup/level my printer linked in the video description. Much appreciated... new subscriber!
Great, really glad it helped.
Just spent the morning setting up a new Ender Printer, and getting ready to print. Have now watched four of your videos. Thankyou so much. Incredibly helpful and informative. You have saved me many hours of hassle down the track.
Great to hear, thanks for the comment 👍
Thank you very much!
I bought my first 3d printer yesterday and this really helped me to start!
I appreciate you taking time to make videos like this for us.
Outstanding Video, the model for what other tutorials should be, clear, direct, well edited and to the point. A+ Mate!
Much more straight forward then half of the videos out thanks man
Great video. I just picked up an Ender 3 S1 Pro and based on watching your videos I've got the bed aligned & first prints came out great. Now with this tutorial, I should be all set to slice my own models. Thanks for the effort you put into these videos.
Glad you're enjoying your new printer.
Thank you very much for the pnenominal tutorial! Recently got back into printing with my new Ender 3 V2 Neo, and this was the perfect video length and fantastic instruction!
I've been going through all of your Ender 3 v2 videos. They have been an invaluable resource. Thank you very much for the help.
Glad they help. Thanks for the comment 👍
Incredibly clear and easy to digest information. Thankyou for helping me make sense of this complex journey into 3D printing.
You're very welcome!
This is the best tutorial I have found. Thanks for using plain words and getting to the point.
You're very welcome!
At long last!! The video that CLEARLY explains what you do when you have put your 3D printer together. This is the only one I've found. Wish this had been around 6 years ago when I first started.
Thanks Ricky - I received an Ender 3 Pro as a loaner for a year plus and with your video I was able to download stl files - slice it with Cura - and print successfully several objects. Now my next challenge is to learn a CAD program so I can alter an stl file to my needs.
Excellent video. Great walk through! Like your calm, discriptive style!
I’m thinking about getting into 3D printing and this straight to the point, no waffle and simple explanation is extremely helpful. Keep it up 👍
Well done. The way you have explained and organized this video is excellent. I learned a ton today. I actually printed my first item and it worked!
Great to hear, well done👍
Wonderful video, easy to understand and better for getting started than most others I've watched. Thanks.
super helpful!!! I’m a newbie to 3D printing and this was great info. I appreciate the level of detail you went to. I had to be ready with the pause button though! It would help a lot if you slowed down a bit
This was the most helpful video i found thank you so much. I have the ender 3 pro got it all setup then felt overwhelmed by the software stuff I couldn't figure out the sites to get files to print from this helped me tremendously
Still after 2 years really usefull thank you!
Thank you so much!!!
My own builds were never printing with my old software but now with this one it works!! 😃
Excellent instructional video, thank you. Exactly what I needed.
The best 3D printing videos in youtube, Ricky you are the man! thank you once more for another great video.
Thanks for the support 👍
Really clear vid Ricky cheers! I’m very new to all this, and got surprised by the fact Cura remembers the settings from how you sliced your last 3D design. Naturally you want it to retain your nozzle & bed temp, etc. But if you’ve added a brim to a print, it will add the same brim to the next project you slice, unless you manually change it. Unless my Cura settings are up the spout, might be a useful reminder for newbies!
Thanks mate your tutorial is very simple and easy to understand 👍
Thanks Ricky for an excellent tutorial. You are my go to 3D printer guru. 🙏🏻
Absolutely AWESOME video!
Great clear explanation!
Once again, another great video produced. Simple explanation and walkthru.
Thank you for the great walk through! First time printer and this was incredibly helpful.
Thank you! Short concise and exactly what I needed. Much appreciated
Glad it helps 👍
Excellent video. I am a 100% beginner and had no idea of what to do. I watched several videos and this is the perfect one for its balance between technical information and common sense (new users) information. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thank you for a simple and informative video on getting started. Helped me to be not so afraid to use
Nice video for beginners to understand the cura.
Its true that you explain very nice, even the difficult things you make it easy to understand.
ive learned so much more in just this one, easy to follow, video than spending a whole month of headaches trying to learn how to use my 3D printer, THANK YOU
Great to hear!

Dude... can I say, you're in the right line of work. Love your vids!

Thank you for this, just bought an ender 3 neo, this was straight to the point.
Thank you for keeping it simple and understandable. Now I know what I have been doing wrong.
I'm just about to order my first printer and this video was a lot easier to follow than most others I've seen so far. Thanks a ton
Thanks John. What are you going to get?
@@RickyImpey I'm going to get the elegoo Neptune 3 pro. It seems pretty simple and it's good to go out of the box. And the price is pretty nice

Great video I learned some great stuff. Only made 1 print with Acura so far but it has been the best slicer for my very old printer.
Great video!!! You got me started in 11 minutes. Thank you so much!

Excellent video. Thanks
thanks so much for this video. About to try my first 3D printing soon
Excellent Video !! Where has this video been ? You managed to explain with simplicity about code and how to go about setting up a file for printing . This is a Great video for beginners to watch ! Other UA-camrs forget that beginners don't have the knowledge that they possess and explains things as if you already up up to speed. Thank you for making this video maybe you can make some more to help out newbies to 3D printing .
Thank you for detailed info ;) Helped a lot with a lot of things as I am a beginner to 3d printing.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this!! We are setting up ours tomorrow and I had no idea where or how to start, thank you!!!
How did you get on?
@Ricky Impey not real well, put it together, leveled the bed but when it went to print it looks like it burnt all the carbon off. Hot mess! Now I'm waiting for a new bed, I'm not sure how to fix it. This is all over my head I guess.
I love you videos. This one was perfect. I learned more in your video then most of my research. Thank you!
Awesome, thanks for letting me know it helped👍

Thank you so much! I just got a printer and could not figure out how to get free files to Cura. This video was a great help.
I have iMac 24” PC and I don’t know how to do an SD card to a Mac ? I have learned a lot. His videos are so easy to understand. He doesn’t do any goofy music or do all it is talking about himself. He just jumps right into the project.
This video is very helpfull for beginners! thanks a lot!!
