You are awesome! I was having issues changing all the old school door locks in my rental but this helped for sure! Some doors were updated and were easy but the old school ones like the one in this video were the ones that gave me a hard time. Thanks again!
Hey amazing work I did have a couple questions because I want to change my lock system and door knob. So where did you buy that door plate and door knob ? Also what kind of drill and drill bit extension are you using on your drill ?
Great job. I love it! I have that same exact door knob. What hardware did you use to replace it? I love them and want to take them off and refurbish them.
We have spent hundreds of dollars in knobs over 17ish years of living in this apartment. They cost about $10-$15 and only last a few months before they fall off and we need to replace it again
Please make a video on how to replace a mortise lock set to a modern cylinder lock set. I don't know how to fill in the space left from removing the mortise lock. Thank you!
If that was MY house, I'd have a fit about his dropping tools on the wood floor like that and possibly leaving marks all over it. But, I did learn something from his video.
Scrape the paint around the lock really well and then try to pull it with a strong magnet. If you have an old hard drive laying around, there's a very strong permanent magnet inside! I have never tried to pull a lock out of a door, but it's worth trying. 😊 Also, taking the door off the hinges and placing it with the lock upwards and then applying a generous amount of Nitromores, will soften any paint jamming the lock. 😊
Thank you for your video. Funny with the door closed you didn't show the deadbolt not working. Meaning you didn't show people a complete video which is fine but you didn't mention it either(bottom hole in strike plate needed to be chiseled out), unless the gap in the door was so big it worked which means a door/frame issue. Also why is there a bolt lock on the closet? How about making keys or refurbishing the original lockset?
My husband had ours refurbished for $75, and it didn’t last but a few weeks. Where can we get our hands on this replacement hardware, please? Model, brand, or just search criteria, because we’ve looked for 2 years.
@@rmrsgirl hey, it's hard to find now days. It really depends on what you are looking to achieve. The replacement you got is kinda cheap, but is a good choice and does the job. I'm not sure who did the refurbished job but a true professional Locksmith should be able to bring back the old lock. Unless some heavy wear and tear on the parts it should be reasonable fixable. Either way, if you have money to invest into some locks then I would suggest Emtek(mortise sideplate section). They gave a good variety. Mostly a updated look with a quality lock. It maybe overkill for your situation. It also brings a more modern look which you may or may not be trying to achieve. Measure, measure, measure! Make sure your door is thick enough and the backset is correct or close enough where the plates will cover. You may have to do some Frankenstein thing. One brand mortise lock(Baldwin makes a narrow version mortise lock) and trim to cover(multiple companies can work with Baldwin). Other options I can think of at the moment would to be going to a antique salvage place that has old doors and locks. You can also fill the current hole with wood, patch, paint and start new. Good luck and hopefully something I said was helpful.

Great tutorial, the only one who has explained how to switch the latch around! thank you!
So glad I found your video. Helped me get my door knobs and locks done in New old house I'm renting. You're a great teacher.

Does this type of lock lock from the inside as well as outside? Like for a bedroom

That's crazy! Why are they falling apart so quickly!?

He also made tons of noise, my ears hurt from watching this.
How do u unlock one without key I have tired ecery
Is it possible to remove this antique door knob and put a modern privacy knob or is it completely different
at least on mine, the HOLE for the antique door is far too small. Yuo'd have to buy a $25 drill bit to make the wide hole.
I can't even get that internal mechanism out of the door
Scrape the paint around the lock really well and then try to pull it with a strong magnet.

The door plate on my is completely stuck. I tried the hammer part and prying it out but nothing works
I feel mine might be the same. Is it painted on as well?
So... is there a key?
No key it was a closet door . However they are very similar
@@chipdevage2374 I am learning the hard way that even closet doors need locks. People you know are snoops or even thieves.
