If you guys could only choose a single bike, what would it be? I honestly think I would still get a hard tail mountain bike BUT a bike like this would be close.
The reason I ordered the Defy over the Revolt was the Rider position. It's a tad more aero than the Revolt while being more relaxed than the TCR. I also already have a Fathom 1 for trail rides making it hard to justify a Revolt for that.
I didn't know what a Gravel Bike was a couple of months ago and now I'm the proud owner of a 2021 Giant Revolt Advanced 2. I got back into cycling this year after a few years break. I found your channel while researching mountain bikes and saw the videos you did on your wife's Revolt Advanced 2. My LBS had the same bike in my size with a good discount, so I decided to give it a try. The 2022 model is undoubtedly the better bike but they only seem to be available locally in 0 and 1 spec levels. Having the option to fit a non-proprietary seat post would have been nice, however like you say the D-Fuse seatpost works well. I'm very happy with the Revolt so far as it suits the type of riding I mainly do. With mountain biking I'd usually drive the bike park or mountain bike trails. With a Gravel bike I can leave the car at home as l have plenty of paved cycle paths at my door step that eventually lead to more interesting unpaved roads and trails. The gravel bike won't replace my mountain bike but I think it will be the bike I ride most often.
Funny, I was working on this exact model today, in the alternate orange color. The owner is in his 70s, and has won one race on it this year. He was getting it tuned up for a race this weekend. I ride an old litespeed catalyst, but I do like the way Giant's composite frames ride.
Nice got this arriving tomorrow. Only got 2022 tcr advanced pro 0 a few months ago. Totally spoiled myself this year. I can't wait. Tcrs amazing but I feel like this could be a contender. Nice review man.
Good review! I bought this bike just before Unbound '22 100. I rode it in the standard shorter wheelbase (unflipped chip) with 47mm tires, 15 miles of driving rain and muck, had plenty of clearance. Revolt performed both flawlessly and comfortably and that continues. Cons: Cables are out front not internal. Drops could be a tad longer. Bar tape could be more padded - none of these are dealbreakers. Pros: Devours every surface thrown at it. GRX 800 48/31, 11-34 super smooth/reliable. IMO gearing is great, even for gravel races. I easily hit 40mph bombing a UG descent and averaged 15.2mph rolling w/ 4879' climb. Extremely compliant/comfortable, even the stock saddle is VG (subjective, yes). Stock 40 Maxxis Receptors also VG on most surfaces (IMO; put the 47s on for more technical/chunky stuff), and inflate out to 42. I'm 72.5" tall, 32" inseam and my Revolt is size L. Fits great and stupid light for all it has and does. Tons of mounts. Getting another wheelset for road. Agree - this is definitely a contender for One Bike minus, perhaps, serious road racing. Not as light/agile as my CAAD 9, but that's a different animal altogether. Price was a bit steep for me, but fair for all its versatility / lack of compromise.
48x11@100rpm on a 40c tire gets you to 35.9 mph...I guess on a really fast ride you could live in the middle of the cassette a bit more with bigger chain rings but I dont think this gearing is holding many riders back. I'm on last years 0 and looking forward to getting on one of these eventually, though I dont love the paint as much as the balsam green and black from last year, but the new frame seems like a nice upgrade.
I would agree with you on the point of it not holding most riders back. I guess I was really trying to find a drawback of the bike if you were truly trying to purchase one bike for gravel/cx/road. There have been a few times I wished I had my 53 when I decided to take a gravel bike to a fast ride😅 I absolutely love that balsam green colorway!
I had a 2020 Defy Advanced Pro, it was an amazing bike. However, I sold it to buy the Revolt for a couple reasons. Mainly tire clearance. My local trails on the west coast can get pretty knarly and I want to slap on some 50mm tires for some fall touring. Max clearance on the defy is 36mm.
@@kevingmuirhead I am debating between Defy and Revolt as well. I have an older TCR and want something smoother but not too much slower. How does the Revolt do on the road is it much slower than the Defy?
Was a cheap shot showing the recall page. (Didn’t recall the unit but rather a collar). Anyway dude doesn’t get that the suspension is for the handle bars.. not the fork.. not a 90s mountain bike..

I am going to get the giant revolt advanced 2 I might get the advanced 0 can't decide I had a stradalli fenza race bike with boyd carbon wheels

I know more than a couple people that have also raced their defys in the local gravel series and done quite well!

I built up the 2022 advance frame with a 50/34 chainring combo (Easton ea90) it works, though it just barely fits. My 2021 year model fit a 52/36.

Totally agreed with the old school mbt comment 👍

I am a big fan on a 48/32
Hi mate,
Did you try 50mm or more tyres with long stay? What’s your view on it?
Been looking at this bike , but really want an avd pro 1 , unfortunately that bike isn't available here 😕
The advanced 1 is the Best Buy IMO. Dropper post, Sram Rival 1x , and nicer army green colour for slightly less money.
Is the maxxiss Receptor Hookless too?
I think it would either be the Defy or Revolt both could be used in the same manner I think. Defy would definitely be it. Great video Cameron
I can’t wait to finally check out the new defy…….(whenever it arrives😅)

IVE BEEN DEBATING BETWEEN THE REVOLT 2 AND THE POSEIDON AMBITION X. IS THE REVOLT REALLY WORTH THE EXTRA $ FOR A STARTER GRAVEL BIKER?
Yes
Thanks for the vid. ? About the sizing. How tall are you? You said you got your gf a size M but you rode a M/L?
Does this one crack its frame at the top of the seat tube too ??
It's the 2022 model so I guess yes. I wouldn't buy a 2022 model with a carbon frame, just to be on the save site :D
I ride a "Future Shock", it works. Stop trashing the technology

Dropped seat stay 🤮
