Yup, I upgraded my carbon Revolt 2 with 1325 gram wheels with Ultegra rotors and new axels and GRX 810 cranks and GRX shifters. Thee bike is just over 18 lbs with pedals and bottle cages. 32 mm file tread tires.

I have a 2020 Revolt Advanced 0 its a superb bike very versatile and most likely the best bike Ive owned it's very fast and not far off my Defy when on roads ! Absolutely rips along gravel leaving most mountain bikers in its wake, my only complaint with it is when you get to something a bit more technical or rocky its just far to bumpy for my liking which to be fair is to be expected and for this reason I'm looking at selling my Defy road bike and replacing it with a proper mountain bike probably something like the Giant Anthem or Trance for those more technical routes.

I agree. There is almost no need for a hardtail mountain bike when you have the revolt!

I have this bike in medium and just changed over to semi slicks for the summer. When you say the wheel set is heavy they’re HEAVY.
When I first watched this video I took it with a grain of salt on making the decision to purchase the bike. I’m going to upgrade.
My plus carbon wheels for my Bikepacking rig were quite lighter than the stock Giant wheels.
First world problems (I know). That being said the tires are a really good all-rounder a little draggy on pavement, but for actual gravel they are excellent. So I’m keeping those!

I've test ridden the Revolt Advanced 2 twice on pavement but not yet on gravel. I love it so far and if I can find a bike shop with one in my size (M/L) that will let me take it out briefly on local gravel roads I'll know for sure. I've been riding gravel for several years on my fat bike and on my 29er mtb but 35-40c tires on the thick stuff is a new thing for me. Thanks for the great review!

I have the exact bike in a large and I noticed the same thing with the seat height. I also have a large TCR advanced. I tried to set the revolt up like my TCR. Both seats at the exact same height, measured from the ground but the revolt seat felt a tad lower. So I measured and found the bottom bracket is about 2cm higher measured from the ground. I set the seat post at minimum insertion now and It is acceptable but I could use about 1 cm more. I didn't know Giant has a longer seat post, gonna call the shop, Thanks

    • @MossieRidesBikes
      @MossieRidesBikes  3 роки тому

Not a problem! This has been my only complaint about the revolt. Once I got the longer seatpost, this thing fit like a glove. I'm hoping this was just an error on Giants part and they will start sticking the longer seatpost in the new model.

What's odd about the fit on this version of the Revolt is that it's basically identical to every Defy Advanced since at least 2015. (Not the case for the 22 onwards as they revised the geo)
Standover is greater for the Revolt and the wheelbase is longer but stack/reach ratio is within 0.01 of the Defy. I'm on the cusp of sizes (5'11", slightly proportionally short legs) and I run a 110mm stem on a Defy in M/L. Giant spec 100 for the Revolt in the same size which is odd given the backsweep on the bar compared to road. Interestingly for my height/inseam Giant did recommend a size smaller Revolt vs Defy, but I'm right in the middle of the size overlap. As it was I went M/L (same as my old Defy) because it was all they had in stock. Bike arrives next week so we'll see about the fit. I have a feeling that the shorter stem on the Revolt will negate any difference. The seat tube angle is the same so KOPS will be the same (I think the post is the same layback) although the '15 Defy I had came with a massively long saddle which got swapped out for an Aoleus.

I have the exact same issue. And since can't test bikes here in Vietnam before buying, I went with Emonda ALR4. Not sure what measurements these bikes companies suggest. If I go with a bike size suggested by cycling brands, I end up with size 56 (Trek) and M/L (Giant). But then I feel too stretched out. And going a size smaller means the seat post has to be placed too high.

Hey Moosie. I'm looking at buying either this bike or a defy advanced 1. 2022. Coming from a 2021 fathom 1. I'm trying to hit more roads( pave 85% and dirt 15%) would you recommend this bike with better rolling tires or the defy with more aggressive rubber. Thanks love your content!

    • @MossieRidesBikes
      @MossieRidesBikes  3 роки тому

Both are good choices but since you have the fathom I would maybe look at the defy. It can't take quite as big of a tire as the revolt but it can still handle gravel like a champ. I even raced a guy in cyclocross that did the whole series on a defy😅 the revolt would definitely be better if you though you would be on gravel the majority of the time.

It works very well for that. That is actually what my wife has been using the bike for and loves it. It will obviously be slightly heavier than a dedicated road bike but not by much. If you check out my first ride report video on the TCR you can see Tucker pulling through on his revolt when we were averaging 23mph on rolling terrain so it's not slow by any means.

TCR ML Top tube length 565 + stem 110
    Revolt L Top tube length 575 + stem 100
    Effectively the same reach.
Slightly taller head tube on the Revolt means the Revolt is more upright so not sure why you felt stretched out.
I have always ridden a TCR ML and a Defy L.
Maybe it’s a perception thing with the different geometry 🤷‍♂️

    Hi Team
I have this bike (Frame L), and I'm happy with that but to be honest 10Kg (22lb) is too much a for a carbon bike lit it.
I've not changed any since I bought it, and now I'm thimking to make it better. Provably I'll start changing wheels and perhaps later praxis bottom bracket Crankset, for last maybe handlebar.
Which wheels do you recomend me? I accept all kind of recomendations taking into account my weight is about 80Kgs, and many times I use bikepacking.
I would like to calculate everything before invest money in my Giant, perhaps is moment or better spend it in a new bike 🙂
    Thanks all of you.

Most people don't need custom frames, unless one's body proportions are in the extremes, such as really long arms and proportionally very short torsos etc. Otherwise, by changing the stem length and handlebar widths most should be able to get a perfect/near perfect fit on a bike. Most "standard" bikes from big companies like giant/trek etc...spec their handlebars wider than ideal even for gravel riding (which should be up to 0- 2cm + your AC to AC joint distance of your shoulder). This was confirmed after a 1.5 hours of bike size fitting with a local bike fitter who's been doing bike fitting for >20 years full time, including many professional athletes. Buying a Custom bike frame size for most people is a waste of money. Giant makes great bikes, but their rims are terrible, especially the aluminum ones, the new carbon wheels are better, but definitely not the best in terms of durability, there's a ton of negative feedbacks on their aluminum wheels. Consider upgrading to Stan's No Tubes Grail, DT Swiss, Shimano, Hunt's, which are durable and great bang for your buck

Why set up a bike that will be ridden off pavement at times like your road bike? Would you set up your mtn bike with the same extension as your road bike? If you are going for a ride that is all pavement I can understand that, else lower the saddle a bit and let your legs take up a bit of the shock.

One of the few people who can do an actual REVIEW correctly. Sadly there are hundreds of videos of people posting a "review" but only list the specs. Most people just saying the specs doesn't mean much especially if you only ridden one bike before. A review should include how the bike actually rides as well as the reviewers biases(such as comparing to other bikes they ridden)

@@MossieRidesBikes Im new to bike geometry and it's more complicated and confusing than genders xD.
But what stood out with the Revolt 2 was it's extremely low Seat Tube Length, the XL has only a Seat Tube C-T length of 530mm. That is 50mm lower than other Bikes in that size. I don't really understand how that bike works in that regard and how they still get a Stack to reach Ratio of 1.53. I assume they manage this with an "oversized Seat height. But it doesn't really look that oversized, the Topstone looks more oversized. The Seat being to small also says something different.

I have never had a puncture let alone a service on the defy. I do clean and lube every second dridevand clean all grit away after rainy rides. I would suggest same with wheels. @@runbikeswim3652 did you end up pulling the trigger? Also considering the revolt as my 1 bike to rule them all!

I got this bike during the peak of the "bug crisis" when there were no road bikes available anywhere, and I love this bike. Folks are gonna cringe, but I've never even been on a gravel trail with this bike as that is what I have a MTB for, so it is strictly road and I can average 16.8 - 17.3 mph on a flat surface over my 33 mile ride. My only gripe has been with the seat post which keeps on slipping and I just found out that there is a gritty gel that goes on the seat post that helps keep it in place. It didn't work for me, so I am considering putting a dropper post on this bike since I have a free paddle on the left since this is a 1x grupo. Other than that, this bike will be a shame to sell once I get my new road bike that I ordered which is supposed to arrive sometime next century, LoL.

    Hey man,
thank you for the video and the detailed infos on the feeling of the bike! I am considering the giant revolt as my first gravel bike, previously l have been riding an older Peugeot racing bike and l am really looking for an upgrade that can „do it all“.
Since you mentioned the size of the bike and the fact that you felt super stretched out on the ML model, I have a question: l am slightly shorter that you (176cm/5‘7) but have slightly taller inseam (83cm/32,6“). Based on the giant website l am right in between M and ML (57-58cm / 22,4“ arm length). Would you recommend M or ML for me? The old bike l have been riding is way to tall for me so l am currently used to a large frame. :)

For your measurements I would steer you towards the medium. I know it's hard to test ride things right now so the best thing to do is compare the geometry of your current bike that you are comfortable on to the revolt. I believe the top tube length on the ML revolt is around 56.5 which is just a little long for me.

I got my Revolt Advanced 3 about a month ago and LOVE IT. I hadn't ridden a road bike (or gravel bike) in decades and bought it just based on the reviews... It was an incredibly good decision 😁. I am liking it more than my Anthem X29... Although they admittedly do have different purposes. EDIT: I'm about 5'11" and am on the m/l... Fits great.
