    That final breast to free turn and free leg is one of phelps great moments. Over 30 and he still has it in him to turn it on and bury the best the world has to offer, and he looks so smooth when he's doing it. When that stroke rate increases the final 25, the greatness is just undeniable.

    In addition to his wins whats really impressive is the margin of victory.
    Athens 2004 - 1.64s ahead of 2nd place
    Beijing 2008 - 2.29s ahead of 2nd place
    London 2012 - .63s ahead of 2nd place (Lochte) and 1.95 ahead of 3rd
    Rio 2016 - 1.95s ahead of 2nd place
    He didnt just win - he dominated this event at the Olympics!

    Something interesting that I noticed around 3:12 when Phelps transitions from breast to free is that he doesn't complete a breaststroke kick on his last stroke going into the wall. It is something I have seen occasionally from others, but never quite at this level. Perhaps it is to preserve momentum through that last stroke into the wall?

    • @siyulater
      @siyulater 2 роки тому +2

      Very late reply but it's definitely to do with keeping the momentum he built up into the wall. If he had kicked into the wall, he would've been too close to fully extended into the wall and efficiently maintain his speed.
