- David Archuleta has an emotional unmasking on 'The Masked Singer.' During the season 9 finale, the singer was revealed to be under the Macaw mask. David was brought to tears, and explained how his decision to come out publicly changed his life and inspired others.

David has one of softest spoken voices but when he sings, he can hit next level. His courage, especially in the religious world he was brought up in, is something many of us relate to. Eventually you HAVE to be you, b/c you suffer trying to be someone you aren't.
So true! All my life growing up in that same world, have been more open, understanding and most of all, accepting of all people, no matter their choices/struggle, thankful I was raised that way… although my family were strict by the book church going, the never “preached” nor forced it upon anybody, instead lead by example. I believe It’s really the people more than the religion, trust me, I know.

I remember watching him on idol and he was my favourite. He sang a rendition of, “stand by me,” on idol, and to this day , love listening to it. He should’ve won BOTH times.

hot take but I think it's better (most of the time) to not win since winning the competition kind of pushes you into a corrner and forces you to release what THEY want and right away too. Personal opinon; jist get enough exposure and you'll be fine. With some exceptions, seems to be true. :)

Props for David having the courage to come out, that must of have been horrible feeling like his religion and family would not accept him, when I came out as a teenager my dad was against it, but I knew he had horrible morals so I did not care what he thought, If I respected my religious community, and felt like they were against me I might have not wanted to live anymore either. I have heard about Ken almost losing his wife before but I never knew he almost lost his daughters that and David not wanting to live anymore almost had me in tears.

Ironic that he turned out to be a bigger American Idol than any "winners" of the show. He went on to be a missionary for some years, helping others and now he can be an inspiration for gay teens, ect. We've needed a positive, role model in the music industry and still believes in God.. I've loved a lot of different singers and celebrities in my life, but no one's story and voice has impacted me like David's. Anyone that watched him on Idol and in the years of 2008-2010 when he was absolutely everywhere knows how far he's come. From being the shy little Mormon boy who barely stood up for himself to becoming a handsome man unapologetically expressing his sexuality and how the Mormon church's doctrine traumatized him on a national stage. Absolutely in awe of his talent and personality. Forget the mainstream celebrities, David is exactly who we need to hear more from.
