You could hear in his voice that this wasn’t easy for him to sit there on national TV to talk about but it must have felt so good having an ICON and industry titan such as Jennifer sitting in front of you letting you know she’s got your back. She didn’t interrupt and gave him all the support he needed. So so proud of these two and have a greater appreciation for the amazing people American Idol introduced us to ❤

I'm not gay but I am a member of the Mormon Church and hearing the struggles he has gone through just breaks my heart. I'm glad he has finally found the strength to just be who he is. I'm proud of you David and I hope you find true love and happiness.

@@triciac1019 your religion is a cult. And it's not acceptance. Its what's Mormons have done best since the beginning. They adapt to the changing times but secretly still hold the old beliefs as commands of god. They have this dichotomy of legal systems. There's man's law and then theres gods law. That psychological trick allows the church to bend with the times and excuse themselves by blaming it on "man's law". But there will never be a time when homosexuality or the descendants of Africans will ever be considered truly equal under "gods law". And that's the mental game you people play. And thats not even the half of it when you consider the enormous sexual and psychological pressure your people put on youth. Its like your cult is obsessed with what people do in bed because you believe it's gods law. But the treatment of homosexuals is nothing compared to the way the Mormons have treated black members for a century. At least you can pretend to be straight to fly under the radar but anyone not white with lilly white skin was historically considered "less than" by explicit gods law and they were banned from any leadership roles until 1978. It was literally Jim Crow before Jim Crow was a thing yet. And even to this day 2/3 of those Mormons walking around your cult actually believe it's gods command to actively oppress people of African descent and with brown skin. Its a despicable doctrine. And all the smiles, marketing campaigns and neatly dressed street preachers won't change the core doctrine.
The saddest part is that there's no proof that any of your supernatural beliefs are actually true. Noone has ever presented any independently verifiable evidence the Mormon god is real, that god has ever talked to anyone, or that he's all powerful. You can't test and perform experiments to confirm his existence. Its all just beliefs inside people heads that they convince themselves are true because it feels good to think it's true. And people are addicted to the feelings of euphoria that the lies give them. So they never give it up even if they know it's not true. Chimpanzees do the same thing in behavioral expirements. That's why they're capable of laughter. Because playing along with what they know is not true is funny to them and makes them happy. Religion is like a big joke that makes every one happy even though most people know it isn't true. Lol
So proud of you David. It's my first time hearing this, i know it's been so long since this interview and I just learned it now. I'm an LDS as well and part of LGBTQ community but it doesn't mean we will stop believing on how we raised on our church. You are and will always be A Child of God.
as a queer person who grew up in the church, he really verbalized the feelings one has going through that journey. really made me emotional hearing him talk and having Jennifer just listen and support

David seems to be extremely intuitive and well spoken. Respect that.
Growing up as a queer kid in the same church, he summarized basically what I have been feeling since. Made me think that I was in the wrong, that I'll never be accepted but his coming out story made me realize that I need to accept myself first before others can accept me. Ever since I came out, I have never been happier. I miss the church, but as long as we don't see eye to eye, I'll just silently stand on the side and keep believing that God loves me no matter what.

I'm glad you accept yourself ❤️ I walked away from the church quietly back in spring 2016. At the time, I wasn't sure I was making the right decision. I thought, "I need some time... maybe I'll come back..." And then life happened, and years went by. Then, in 2020, the pandemic and quarantine happened, and I was scrolling through UA-cam and found a video titled "Why I Left the Mormon Church." I hesitated. I had never looked at anything like that. But I wanted to know if they left for similar reasons I did. They talked about the CES letter. Didn't know what that was. I went down the rabbit hole. I had to find out more. I found a lot more "Why I Left" videos. I found channels dedicated to talking about it. I found the ex-mo community. I found a story similar to mine, and I cried for hours and hours because when they told their story, in a way, they also told mine. I felt heard. If you leave the LDS church, they want you to think you'll be alone. But you're not. So many people have left and are sharing their experiences on every social media platform. If you type in ex-mormon, ex-lds, or ex-mo, you'll find them.
I dont think you need to look at people for the solution. The bible is clear on God's stance and Jesus nailed all of our sins to the cross so that we can be freed from any sin. He made man for woman and vice versa. He has the keys of freedom. We must fast, pray continually and not believe what the devil wants us to believe of ourselves.
Yes Alastair, see my comment above, there are so many verses in Bible that say our bodies are vessels, but our heart and soul is neither male nor female, you are lived by The One God of the Bible who is masculine and feminine in a perfect blend and Jesus is the example of all those traits..you are loved by God of the Bible and have a great destiny. You might look up MCC church. It is an International Biblical Church for LGBT and many more of them are being started in major cities so there may be one near you.

I can't express enough how much it means to so much of us how gracious your message and story is to the world - not only for queer people, but for everyone just trying to find their way in the world. it's not always about trophies/awards (which Jennifer always has plenty of) it's about promoting positivity and helping people which is what this show seems to be doing and long as people continue to watch and enjoy it, pretty sure Jennifer will be fine with that..seriously doubt she started this show for Emmy nominations

Wow! David spoke so beautifully, such a calm and gentle young person. I was moved to tears. His message is powerful and peaceful.
I remember several years ago I watched a video of him and charice(also known now as jake zyrus) sung together in a christmas event. Never knew both of them were hiding from the harsh society back then. Good for them for coming out.

I met him years ago on The Tonight Show right after he was on American Idol. He was very nervous to be on the show but did a great job singing. After the performance he let out a huge exhale of relief. He them smiled at me. I hope he is happy in his life.
He’s doing so much good talking about his experience. There are so many of us who went or are going through that same thing. It’s so traumatic to grow up in a religious community and trying to fight these feelings that come natural to you and can’t quite understand when you’re really young. Thank you David ❤️

I am also a latter-day saints and experience the same, so I really understand you David... actually I am one of your avid fans and I am always proud in introducing you all my friends and relatives that you are also an LDS like me. like you, I found myself crying and pleading almost everyday to Heavenly Father for this feeling I have had. But in my prayers, I always ask for STRENGTH, strength to overcome and strength to choose what He wants me to do... Yes, its became very difficult and even very frustrating, there are times that I couldn't find happiness in everything because I felt Im in prison, but @David Archuleta through the help and strength of the Lord I am happily married now with wonderful son and daughter... I learned that Heavenly Father is more interested in my growth than He is with my comfort. I may not always want it to be that way, but it is. I can tell you David, that I am one of the happiest husband and father now, though all are not easy, having a woman beside you is simply enough to fulfill many things in life. Eve were given to Adam to become helpmeet... Help to meet everything in life even our very concerns in life. I love you David... I know that you are so great, your spirit was one of those valiant spirits that's why the adversary is doing everything they can to stop you fulfill the plan of salvation... Your generations will be one of the amazing generations that your family would ever have. God is so merciful... He trusts you... He believes in you... If I were there, I will hug you so tightly... Give the best moment that I can give you just to share with the pain that you're going through... I know how painful, I know how difficult. Again, I love you David. You will be in my prayers David. @@sarahfisher9472 yes... But back then, I was about to leave the church because of that experience... But I held on to my faith and hoped for the promises of my maker, I understand that because of mortality I will continue to fall short in His glory,and it hurts me so much, and it was, almost every minute, there are many times that I mocked the Lord, willfully doing the things that I know were wrong, but having that sure knowledge that I am His Child and that He is my Father and He loves me unconditionally, helped to stay... I know He knows how I try, He knows How I suffer and I know He will be merciful to me.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It wonderful to see someone on this side of the support. I watch his interviews about it and I hate to see that it doesn't seem like he reveals any support from the church. He doesn't share that his identity is a child of God. It is hard but it is possible to keep moving forward. When I listen to David talk I think what about the covenants he made with the Lord? I wonder what the Lord would do about that.

This was very touching to hear. I can't imagine having to go through a life as a gay man in a religious household. I came out when I was 13 and it was essentially like taking my mother I'd lied to her about something insignificant. Seeing David grow makes me happy. There is no praying the gay away, people.

@@anthonyboarman3833 it's interesting you say the church caused the pain and above it said psychological trauma. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and we are taught nothing but Love and how to come closer to Christ by Loving All no matter race, religion, gender, sexual preferences, etc. We are taught to Love even if we do not agree with someone else or we are hurt by another. The Doctorine is the Doctrine of Christ to which is a Doctorine of Love and Acceptance. We as members do our best to follow Christ's teachings. But with this knowing each one of us are human and imperfect with weaknesses and flaws which we all try to overcome. We make our own choices and mistakes and feel guilt which does not come from the church or it's teachings but our own choices and decisions. It is all about perspective and when we can see another's perspective even if we don't 100% agree we can come together with Empathy and Love. Hate and Blame and Guilt and Misrepresentation does not serve anyone. Not you, Not me, Not anyone. There is not a "Mormon" church and never was but it was created in people's views of what they do not know or understand or even want to because they are against it. By understanding truth and facts and not creating Misrepresentations you might be able to see another's perspective. I have myself suffered alot of hate, disrespect and physical, emotional and mental abuse since I was a little girl and I can attest it has not been from the "Mormon" church, but those who are misrepresenting with their own views, pain and attacks. It could have damaged me in so many ways, but I know who I am as a Daughter of a Heavenly Father who Loves Me and He Loves each one of You. Christ helped me to rise above my hurt and pain. I will not hurt another to make myself feel better because it never will. That is another's doctorine. I pray that each one of you that choose to hurt, damage or misrepresent look within yourself to find truth and find peace and not continue the Hate you are spreading. Quit the False accusations, Quit the Demeaning, Quit the Blaming and the Finger Pointing. Love Without Fault All You Come Into Contact With knowing None of Us are Perfect, but Always working Daily to Be the Good in this Hate filled world. 🌎

I believe his voice is a gift from God and that God gave it to him for a reason: to be who he truly is and never be afraid. That beautiful, incredible voice is one of a kind. I am so extremely proud of this young man! I've been a fan of his since "American Idol" and my gaydar went off the first time I saw him. I saw him in concert a few years ago and he was wonderful!
I loved his story. I totally relate to it, I'm gay and I grew up as a Christian, and I was going through almost the same he went through, and what I have learned is that loving ourselves, and giving ourselves understanding and acceptance is one of the most important steps towards healing. Very glad to hear he has been loving himself more.
Right?? Im not gay and LOVE this story! But I was a Moormon-Came out 25 yrs ago- Time Stamp :36 Literally Everything about LD$ is sex (procreate) money & controll. From a deep diver it still is indoctrinated. Thanks to many, We are rising to higher vibrations of loving a soul for who they are and being true to oneself.
@@rubytuesday1316 I Think some members have had some hard things to learn, and we all still do. It's hard for us to know all the purposes and intentions of all of God's commandments in all cases. But we do believe and have faith that they are for our ultimate good. What you said is one thing that some members would need to learn (that marriage not just about sex) -- but on the other hand, there are many who misunderstand the real position of the church and most of the members of the church they interact with-- which actually goes right along with what you said- that marriage is about a whole lot more than just sex. It's about man and woman uniting in a way that is complementary and empowering, in many different ways. It's unfortunate for sure that marriage by God's law seems to not be reasonable to be had for all people because of their circumstances. But we simply don't have the authority to redefine marriage because it was defined by God in the beginning. But we know that trials in this life are had by everyone. Very hard trials. Overcoming these trials is a way that we can grow spiritually- but I don't know what this would mean for those with gay feelings and atrraction. Overcoming such a trial might be something that can't really be done in this life. And so it seems that this type of trial is one of the hardest kind to be had in this life. We believe in eternal progession though- and by all we know doctrinally, it is definitely my belief that this type of trial will not be had after this life is over. These can all be very tricky topics to navigate, so I don't blame anybody. We just all need to be very, very patient with one another.

People should not be afraid to call out cults and religious beliefs that are outdated, based on ignorant beliefs and traditions, and that teach people to hate themselves for not being in the "mold". Thank goodness for the genuine spirituality that someone like David has bravely shared with us. God directly talks to us through our life experiences, not some antiquated books written by anonymous people and have been tampered with century after century.
Tbh yeah religion and cults are the same the difference is size and social acceptance. I'm pretty sure Mormons were considered a cult for a while ( a very racist one at that) till it changed and became religion or part of the Christian denominations.
This made me love David more... Strong, Honest, and Brave and you can feel the good person in him 🥰🥰🥰
I have left the church. I had a different challenge, but it will fall on the same principle of God. At the time of my falling away, people find my sincerity just as viewers here can find David's sincerity. There is no doubt about it.
It's really hard to accept the counsel from our leaders, both from the local and the general authorities, who, even though they are being directed by the Lord, may still struggle to understand situations that God is still letting us experience without a clear view. But as the years go by, I have come to know more deeply that the Church is true, and stepping away from it really wasted my time and jeopardized my eternal salvation.
I hope David, who also became a missionary like me, will come to realize the purest thing of the things of God more than the deepest thoughts that he is having right now and come to the sense that he is now on the verge of fulfilling a prophecy that in the last days even the "most elect shall be deceived."
Whether it is inefficient for him to be told to stay away from marriage, I believe there is wisdom in it. God will never let his church lead the people astray. Taking my perspective on God's purpose in marriage, if he succumbs to a same-sex marriage, then that will eventually, naturally, result in a sexual relationship that God forbids many times in the scripture. Of course, the world view is different, and what makes it more delightful is that many good people accept it. We members continue to pray for him and others who are struggling with it. There will always be struggle and uneasiness because the absolute truth tells us that even when accepted by many, wrong is still wrong.
I hope that his deepest soul will understand that if he just forgets himself, our Father has many mansions and that there is a place for men like him. How I wish that in the resurrection he will come to realize that some good feelings on earth are only temporary.

I’ve met him at a local bar in San Diego recently and David was an angel! I was so nervous meeting him so I only said a quick hi then ran away since there were others wanted to approach David as well. Still one of my childhood crushes ❤️
