  • Learning how to tone your hair can help you get rid of unwanted brassy, yellow, and orange shades - saving you serious time and money between salon appointments. Most blondes know that purple shampoo can help remove brassiness and yellow tones, but for brunettes and those with dark hair, blue and green shampoos are key. In this episode of Beauty School, Redken educator Ashley Lemaster breaks down the difference between purple, blue, and green hair products and teaches you how to use each toner to maintain your color.

So my roots have been bright yellow and I’ve used two types of purple shampoo but nothing seems to help

Would I have to continue to use these products? Or is it just for the initial use of getting, say for an example, the hair color, to tone correctly?

Hi Janet, these are at-home color toning products that help upkeep your color between salon appointments. Stylists recommend using them about once per week.
