Well they did channel of the river to aggregate the lands that was infertile and made them into farmlands its a shame the drained so much but those farmlands still function.
@@gustavvanderwesthuizen6173 The Soviets did want to create farmlands. If only they had added anti - infiltration linings to the canals, the wastage would have been minimal (nearly half of the water diverted was either evaporating or seeping away into the ground, needing more water to be moved out). But it was in a similar way, a colossal mismanagement of river projects, which was damaging to the environment.
It has been an unsolvable problem for decades. This might be one the first international media to cover the story. Longlasting drought and sudden floods had happened for many years in this area.
The dam will control water flow, it will prevent floods, In 1998, China had the largest floods and millions of people die, after we built SanXia dam, it has no big flood in the rest of years.
I was there 2019 (Laos, Cambodia, Mekong Delta) The river is seriously in trouble. What should have been 8m of water was 1.5m and the fish are so small (because they can’t get upstream to breed) they were passing through the size of the nets. Salination due to low flow was affecting rice yields in the delta which, I was told, should harvest three crops a year and feed millions. In Laos, all of the power from the dams will go to China for 30 years then the CCP will hand the dams back to Laos - but by then they will be rundown and maintainence costs will be enormous. FUBAR.
The aral sea, as bad as it ended up, was not a deliberate attack on people. They just wanted to grow cotton, and hurt their own people and enviroment as a result. Even then, those people still had an option to move elsewhere in the massive country, while people down the Mekong can't really do that.

Most of the land are drying now and became barren, it's very hard for us to cultivate. Because of the Chinese is keeping the water, so the water cannot carry enough dirt and solid to raise the level of the land. In recent years there have been numerous reports of subsidence occurring throughout the delta. My homeland is now sinking into the river and the sea 😢

@@jasonsem-k7n Well, you guys know what you're covering up. Someone tries to spread the virus into China because they can't defeat China in a proper way, so they try to kill the Chinese's lives. How evil! Why would I say that? Because there are at least 5 "generations" of the virus, in China, scientists found the third "generation", but in America, they found the first "generation". Different "generations" of the virus exists because of "evolution". So where did it all started? Well, probably America. Also, what is America doing? There are literally hundreds of people dying in their country, and they don't even try to work on vaccines to fight the virus, instead, only sit in an office and talking about how to destroy China. And, it's America that is being offensive and disrespectful to other countries continuously, not China. China does things they should, and avoid doing things they shouldn't, whilst America, is completely the opposite. Besides, if America is that great, why would the Americans kill black people, or in their words, the dogs or bitches? How evil!
@@BorisTin Woah, what a big claim there. US is trying to kill Chinese lives? You got a little too far there, 五毛. Who told you about the "generations" of the virus? Maybe this video will help remind you: ua-cam.com/video/gBvZ6IQwT_s/v-deo.html What about lives of the Uighurs?
This is a nonsense! The average runoff from china in the upstream of the Mekong river is just 15% of the total runoff. I am a personal dam engineer and with a collegous as hydrologist and environment enginner in the Mekong river commission. The major four country in the Mekong river commission is Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. China and Myanmar are basically "marginalised" in the Mekong river commission because they basically "own" very little part of Mekong river. The really problem is basically of those four countries. Laos want to build a lots of hydropower. Vietnam want agriculture. Thailand use it for transportation and fishing and the head in Thailand is already too low there to be utilised for hydropower. Cambodia is generally politically and economically to weak to do anything.
While the video simplifies down how river flow diminishes and changes with dams, it simplifies it down so much you can't understand why and are left thinking that by dint of the fact a dam exists, the river water magically disappears. This is not the case, the reason the down stream river flow decreases is because the dam is built to build up a large reservoir behind it, while the reservoir is filling, flow has to decrease down stream, but once it's full, full flow would be established. The caveat to that being that the evaporation rate of water is tied to surface area. A very deep reservoir that's not very wide won't see much evaporation and so most of the water flowing into it will also flow out the dam, if the reservoir is shallow and wide or just wide in general, much more water evaporates away, decreasing flow. Additionally, many utility companies will dig channels to divert water from the reservoirs to facilitate farming, industry, and drinking water. They're technically able to full divert the flow of the river to those sectors since the dam acts as a plug, but for every gallon they remove, that's one less gallon going down stream. One major benefit to dams is that operators don't normally have the reservoir fully filled, especially going into a rainy season, they'll try and drain it (if it hasn't already been drained to produce power, drinking water, or to maintain the downstream flow) so that when more water starts entering the river from the storms or snow melt, they can maintain a constant flow downstream and just fill the reservoir. This prevents major floods that plague water ways during rainy seasons. One downside to this is that by damming the river, you lose the natural sediment flow that would have gone down stream and naturally fertilized farm lands in the rivers flood plane. Hope this helps anymore wanting to know more about why and how dams effect river flow rates!

Last time I was this early the Mekong wasn't destroyed yet.
I was there 2019 (Laos, Cambodia, Mekong Delta)
The river is seriously in trouble. FUBAR.

How evil!

The rainy season in Cambodia almost ends, but the level of the river is still low. We are concerning about its consequences 😌
The video literally showed that China already built 8 dams... why you guys always blame others.... 为什么?Own up like men
The CCP wants to know your location...
Why do we let China do whatever they want? I swear that country makes me mad.
