I'm most interested in the Lothesome Dung Eater. From his art in the cinematic, it does not seem like a title he chose. He seems heretical. But why? They not only publicly executed him, hid his real identity, but also character assassinated him. Why?
I like how similar to Demon's Souls it is. Instead of naming the demigods it names the legendary tarnished who went to the Lands Between, just like how Demon Souls names the heroes who ventured into Boletaria.
Yeah this feels like if Demon's Souls and Dark Souls had a baby. Walking through a vast fog to a cursed land . . . Boletaria much? Gods and Demigods fighting over the last bits of power . . . Lordran much?

Such an epic intro to a truly stunning game. Booting it up for the first time I was so hyped to dive in. Took me 12 hours to finally start making real progress in the game, I had to remap controls because I would tense up in combat click in the analog stick and cause the character to crouch. Then finding weapons that suited my style (I like daggers!) took a while but I eventually started making good strides. Ended up taking me 128 hours to complete. Worth every penny spent.
Glad to see the tradition of Fromsoftware showing the most badass beings we have ever seen... and then make us play as the most pathetic person in the setting. It makes the ending all the more satisfying.
It's fascinating to me that this cutscene follows, not the template of a Dark Souls Opening Monologue, but reminds me very much of the intro to Demon's Souls. It's constructed of what looks like concept art, just like DeS' was, and it articulates both (1) the state of the world and how it got that way in fairly clear terms (as opposed to DaS which is much more mythological and obscure in its worldbuilding), and (2) names many of the heroes and warriors who "traversed the baneful fog" to enter Boletaria in search of Demons' Souls. Like... this trailer just SCREAMS DeS to me in so many lovely ways, and that makes me profoundly excited. I really hope From returns to explore some Demons' Souls-y vibes and ideas with Elden Ring! It's still my favorite Souls Game by far.
Two years later this sequence still hits just as hard and has me pumped to try another character another build and a new play path way every time I hear it
This brought up a big question for me: from where is the Tarnished crossing over to the lands between? In one sense it’s a metaphor for us, the player, crossing into the world of the game but I am curious where our character comes from.
One of my theories is that "The Lands Between" is between the corporeal world and the spirit world aka between life and death, easily explains the abundance of spirits in the lore. It's gotta be heavily metaphorical as well..
I suspect the proper answer to "where the player character comes from" will be left open-ended so as to not force an interpretation of our own character on us.
@@SpaceDrake maybe, but from the trailer it’s clear that they aren’t from limgrave or the lands between. At least not directly. Possibly the other tarnished aren’t either. Something I’ve noticed recently is that every character class (with one possible exception) is either an outcast, an exile, an outlaw, or explicitly a foreigner to Limgrave, where the game begins.
That ending is reminiscent of the furtive Pygmy scene in the ds1 cinematic. Maybe we are playing the role of a Pygmy in Elden ring. Just like how the Pygmy got the dark souls maybe we’re getting the ring.
We've already seen two of those characters. Horoux loux looks to be godfrey and sir gideon looks like that guy reading the books in the summer games fest trailer

they could be competitors and potential bosses
Those are probably the same as the lords of cinder in dark souls 3. I mean, one of those tarnished in the video is called the dung eater. Do we really want that on our side?
@@smellybearc7411 Oh, I meant to say "the tainted side" in the sense of a group, not an ally.
The tv series was trash lmao. Ruined the books' story...
Hesitated briefly, but caved quickly. No regrets. Arise, fellow tarnished! We're almost there!
My man went straight McBeth during the second act.
Talk about commitment to your craft...
Speculation: Hoarah Loux, chieftain of the badlands reminds me a lot of Godfrey (The axe guy with the lion that was the first elden lord). Theres also lore that says that Godfrey eventually became tarnished.
Maybe this two character are related in some way. Maybe Hoarah has Godfrey's lion-spirit stand, or maybe Hoarah is a descendant of Godfrey. Or who knows, maybe they are the same person or something like that.
If you want to know for sure let me know and I'll tell you atleast what happend and where Godfrey is now
I think they are the same person. Look at the way the guy is built and his hair. Also the giant white Lion. I won't be suprised if this is actually Godfrey.
@@FromsoftgoatKaj Also notice one bit of his hair is braided, similar to.....
@@HalcyonEX I’d like to know this!
@@danielbishop2480 Hoarah Lou is Godfrey after he became tarnished and was called back to the lands between he tried building his own army to become elden lord again but ge failed as the greater will abandoned him he now resides in the round table hold as our blacksmith as a prisoner to whatever demi God imprisoned him there but he doesn't mind it because he Is helping other tarnished achieve a goal he know he can never do again
The loathsome Dung Eater completely overshadowed Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing
Jeez, this guy is doing voiceover as if his life depended on it :-D Lower the gun, Miyazaki, this dude is doing fine as hell!
It's fun to rewatch this after you've gone through the game, met and interacted with these characters, especially the ones name dropped at the end. Can kinda get lost/forgotten for some of em (probably nobody forgot bout Dung Eater) once you get sucked into the game, exploring and doing everything and wind up with a ton of hours into it.
Bloody awesome game though, my fav from FromSoft.
This is one of the best experiences I've had in a long time
I came back to this just to hear that stellar voice acting again
I'm most interested in the Lothesome Dung Eater. From his art in the cinematic, it does not seem like a title he chose. He seems heretical. But why? They not only publicly executed him, hid his real identity, but also character assassinated him. Why?
Very good observation. Excited to learn more about them all.
Very interested in him as well. That artwork made me very curious. Fia also seems interesting.
This!
“The loathsome Dung eater!”
I love everyone gets epic music and named. And when it's get to you he's basically like. "O and this guy"
i've seen this for the first time in-game and got goosebumps. a just have to watch it again
I just realized all the Tarnished he's naming are dead. So like us they came back to life.
Fia, the Deathbed Companion.......who seems to sleep with corpses. Some wonderfully twisted stuff here.
I wanna see dungeater doing his thing in-game. That'll be a sight to see
He won't be attacking, he'll just be eating dung and poison himself to death.
When your best man is drunk at the wedding with the mic and proceeds to express how he really feels about everyone.
I like how similar to Demon's Souls it is. Instead of naming the demigods it names the legendary tarnished who went to the Lands Between, just like how Demon Souls names the heroes who ventured into Boletaria.
God damn this has me PUMPED! Gives me ENERGY! The other intros are depressing, but OMG THIS IS INSPIRATIONAL!
This intro has so many demons souls vives
Yeah this feels like if Demon's Souls and Dark Souls had a baby. Walking through a vast fog to a cursed land . . . Boletaria much? Gods and Demigods fighting over the last bits of power . . . Lordran much?
I'm not going to watch this, but I just wanted to tell all of you to stay strong! We can make it to Friday without spoilers. I believe in you all!
I can't, I've been watching all the videos because I'm not too worried about spoilers
Spoilers don't matter too much in a souls game tbh, Especially one like this
@@Zalgo-hr6qc no spoilers here, From literally want you to know all of this before you start playing the game.
Keep on struggling everyone!!!
I was sad that the souls games ended but now we have the Elden Ring games that are definitely going to be masterpieces. I can’t wait for all the lore, the amazing music, etc.
just noticed marika changed to radagon
Bro this opening is the closest to Demons Souls with how it sets up it's story and your motivations, love the fact that all these legends get revived and then you as well, wonder if that means there's something special about you that you won't be privy to at the start?
I wasn’t gonna watch it then I realized it’s the first thing in the game so, idrc it’s not like it’s really gonna spoil anything but, man that voice actor has a powerful voice
If someone had told me that there was a perfect mix between Berserk and Lord of the Rings/Silmarilion, I would've laughed in his face. But here we are.
My last two braincells fighting over if i should watch this or not
The pain man.
Was gonna hold off on watching it but saw it during the Red Bull stream. Oh boy, this looks like it’s gonna be a journey to remember
Ah man, this really hurts, really want to watch this. God, Rata you're evil for tempting me so.
Want to be spoiler free? Then earn it. 😈
"The Loathsome Dung Eater"
Sounds so funny but this narrator got me hyped up for a literal scatologist
Wait. I know what Gideon's goal is.
Grant him ears. Grant him ears! ... He fekkin' needs to rank up in the Darkmoon.
2:28 I liked that they actually show the grace calling to the tarnished in all of the paintings.
This gives me demon's souls vibes and I absolutely love it
Glad to see the tradition of Fromsoftware showing the most badass beings we have ever seen... and then make us play as the most pathetic person in the setting.
It makes the ending all the more satisfying.
The player character is somehow more pathetic than a guy hanging from his neck called “The Dung Eater”.
And we end up being the badass mofos at the end of the game.
@@TheArchworks He is the biggest chad
The voice actor is on point
i dont know if anyone noticed but in the grave of sir gideon there are ears everywhere.
Grant us ears
me: the.... the what?
Narrator: The dung eater
me: yeah but... the what?
Sometimes renown isn't earned for acts of nobility...
The dung eater.
The dung…fuuu
Narrator needs a raise! Dude has me already pumped up! Let’s go!!
Two years later this sequence still hits just as hard and has me pumped to try another character another build and a new play path way every time I hear it
I can see it now, the one eyed lady that asks you to take her to the erdtree is a fragment of Queen Marika or a manifestation of the elden ring.
Holy crap it probably could be :|
I just realized a few hours ago that I'm not getting the Loathsome spirit ashes this playthrough.
this is just a masterpiece
I CANT STOP WATCHING IT!! ITS SO GOOD!!
God I love this game so much
This brought up a big question for me: from where is the Tarnished crossing over to the lands between? In one sense it’s a metaphor for us, the player, crossing into the world of the game but I am curious where our character comes from.
One of my theories is that "The Lands Between" is between the corporeal world and the spirit world aka between life and death, easily explains the abundance of spirits in the lore. It's gotta be heavily metaphorical as well..
There's is a possible answer in the leaked early concept map's bottom left. For those interested google it, I'm not gonna spoil it here.
iirc some part of the trailer, other than tarnished we are also called "the dead who is yet to live" so I guess that might give some idea
For the first time I realize "eat shit" can sound really awesome
Title : opening cinematic
Alternative title : FromSoft flexing their artworks
That ending is reminiscent of the furtive Pygmy scene in the ds1 cinematic. Maybe we are playing the role of a Pygmy in Elden ring. Just like how the Pygmy got the dark souls maybe we’re getting the ring.
"The LOATHSOME Dung Eater" is a line that goes so damn hard
Everything in this goes hard.
Tag yourself, I’m the loathsome dung eater
Definitely my favourite intro
This man went harder on this narration than anything in the game did on us
I have clicked this video three times debating whether or not to watch it, but here’s a like for the algorithm regardless of what I end up doing
We've already seen two of those characters. Horoux loux looks to be godfrey and sir gideon looks like that guy reading the books in the summer games fest trailer
I 100% agree for Gideon, blatant
Hoarah Loux IS Godfrey
Actually like the story book presentation of this opening. The narrator reals sells it though. Just a glimpse of the madness of the setting.
RATATOSKR PULLIN THROUGH LESGO!! SPOILER ENJOYERS RISE UP
Guys, congratulate me. I didn't watch this video. I'm still going strong avoiding spoilers. And also pray for me.
"The mad taint of their newfound strength triggered the shattering" doesn't get enough credit. I heard that in-game for the first time and KNEW this game was gonna slap, and God damn. It does.
I've been called, and I'm walking back to the lands between. ETA: 4 days 21 hours.
On my first walkthrough I had no idea what was going on but it all make sense now
Out of all the things this has sold me
To the people complaining about spoilers:
*you literally decided to click on a video called "Elden Ring Opening Cinematic" which obviously would contain spoilers you silly gooses*
These ppl will be playing the game eyes closed to avoid spoilers
I love how Ranni was never mentioned in this as she’s a big part of the game but still is able to be ignored in something like this
I don't know about you guys, but i'm curious to see who this loathsome Dung Eater in game.
same
I think everyone's probably most curious about him. Out of fearless warriors and compassionate souls, there's.....an ugly, lumpy guy whose most notable trait is he eats caca. He's got to be the most interesting out of them all.
Plot twist, the dung eater is the main character. The Tarnished of no renown is just some guy who gets killed by a crab early in the story.
dug eater?
Man, imagine walking into the round table and this dude's there and say," hey, I eat shit, what about you? "....actually, " I eatth thouh shitth, whath abouth you'th?
This ,,loathsome dung eater" is every casul player after pvp
"Dung eater" please not another boss that throws literal shit at us
"Getto out of my swampu!" - Miyazaki, probably.
I think Sir Gideon appeared in the first gameplay trailer, the guy who was reading a book, with a couple ears on him helmet. Probably he's called the all-knowing because of this, "he hears everything", or something.
Is interesting that in the past games the opening cinematic presented the major bosses, and this one is introducing major NPC’s it seems
@@marcoasierrabernal4893 yeah, that's quite odd. These NPCs probably gonna play a major role in this game. But probably most the Demi-Gods appeared in this trailer as well, the StoryTeller/Snow Witch is the first to appear when the narrator talk about the demigods so probably she's also Marika's daughter; i just hope she's not a boss, I don't want to kill her, I'd like to have her as a Firekeeper if possible. (Actually, by the way she talk to us/The Tarnished in the second cinematic trailer, telling us to become the elden lord, she's our ally, or at least she have some plan/use for the Tarnished.
We got:
a barbarian king, who's also the first elden lord and first tarnished
A guy with a mask (he's famous)
A girl who hugs you and punish you for hugging her
A guy who eat shit
A guy that knows everything
And some random dude
I like how Fia looks at the grace as if she had just woken up.
