This is a great review and tips video. About the higher price for Maytronics branding...you also get Maytronics global service network. If you need spare parts or repairs, you won't need to wait long till your cleaner is in action again.
I just purchased Niya 50 because i value warranty from a trusted company. While I am impressed with its aggressive waterline cleaning, it did take me 4 passes to get my 30 x 16 19k gallon pool clear. I started with standard which got all the leaves. The robot left a string of sand in the crevice between deep floor and wall. The final run in wall mode finally got this along with a good scrubbing of 2/3 waterline. The last 45 minutes it was only able to climb up wall halfway. I'm hoping that running Niya a couple times a week will now keep my pool clean. I wish there was an affordable robot with a reliable warranty and manual control. Incidentally, I fashioned a buoy and 10' tether from my old Polaris cable. This makes retrieval much easier.
Bonjour David , merci pour cette très bonne vidéo . Penses-tu qu'en achetant le Sonar 50 je n'aurai pas de difficulté à trouver les pièces détachées chez Dolphin ?
I purchased this a few weeks ago after watching your review. Amazing little robot, don’t know why I waited so long to get one. Hands down beats manually cleaning. I do have a question that I can’t seem to find any answer for: can you run this at nighttime? I didn’t know if the sensor required any light source.
Glad it's working out for you! And yes, there are times when I place the cleaner into the pool before bed and just wake up the next morning and it's totally fine. I think it's because it's a sonar type sensor and not a light sensor.
I do enjoy your videos and unbiased reviews. I am probably going to buy the Wybot S2 per your review, but how does that one compare, its about half the price? Thank you...'H'
It depends, if you want a weekly timer with more features and an extra filter option, the Wybot S2 is well worth the money. I would even say it's the best kind of bang for buck premium cleaner right now. However, if you don't need all those extra features then the Sonar 50 would probably work fine. Simple, easy to use, no need for extra features.
Hey david Looking at the naya and the wybot c1 Any feedback on the 2 Also saw the hydrus seal in amazon. I do like hydrus/seauto abilities on waterline and walls Whats your thoughts
Well the Niya Sonar 50 is partnered with Seauto so it's the same cleaner. Has the same aggressive wall and waterline scrubbing as the Hydrus/Seauto brand. If you want to save a little money, the Seauto works. The wybot C1 works well if you want a weekly timer function. Not a super aggressive scrubber like the other two but still does well.
Thanks I am still contemplating paying the extra for the Naya. Not to happy with customer service when asking SEATO or wybot for info. Hoping the dolphin service will be better if issues
Has anyone tried running this is floor mode only? That’s all I really need mine for and it does a terrible job. It basically sits in one small area and cleans it back and forth, never really traveling across the pool to clean it entirely.
If the Sonar 50 had a weekly timer function to it, I would totally choose it over the Scuba S1. But since I prefer a weekly timer(yes, I'm lazy lol) I would choose the Scuba S1. But for you it may be different. If you don't mind charging and using it only when you want to, the Sonar 50 works better. Much more aggressive at cleaning overall.
How do you think this will do in a deep i ground pool with liner? The walls and floor are not fully flat because hubby installed it himself. Also is 8’ deep with diving board the drop off from shallow to deep is pretty steep, would it climb that to clean? I am assuming it would since it comes your steep walls. Our pool is full Sun and sometimes algae starts growing , what model would you recommend that has the finer basket
The Sonar 50 here has the normal fine filter and the 70 should have the cotton foam ultra-fine filter when it's released. No idea though, when the 70 will be released.
Why do these companies not provide an ultra fine filter on the less expensive models? The lack of one has been the deal breaker for me with these wire free cleaners.
Two reasons I think. One, to force you to buy the upgraded higher end model and spend more... Or because an ultra-fine filter reduces suction/uses more suction when in use because it takes more power to use an ultra-fine filter, the power on these models they may consider isn't enough to clean effectively as opposed to the higher end model. So they effectively want you to still buy the more expensive one.
@imdefinitelydavid I never thought about performance issues with the ultra fine filter. Good point! I still agree with forcing customers tword the more expensive models theory..👊🏾
Right now, the least expensive cleaner with ultra-fine filter is the Wybot S2 normal version($700), not the Pro. In about a month or so, the Dolphin Niya 70 should be released and that will also be about $600 with an ultra-fine filter.
Hi. I’m looking to invest in a robotic cleaner and skimmer and looking for the top of the line of all the robots you’ve tested. What combo do you recommend, assuming price isn’t an issue? Thanks for your great videos.
What I use right now is exactly that sort of combo. I have a Beatbot AP sitting in the garage because I prefer the two cleaner option over it. I am in no way pushing Aiper, in fact, I do NOT like them on a personal level lol(had issues with them using my videos without consent). But I have to admit, their cleaners work really well for me. I'm currently using the Aiper Surfer skimmer and either the Scuba S1 Pro or the normal S1. I sort of have the luxury of so many cleaners, but what I do is swap the Scubas out at the end of the weekly cycle and then charge the other to repeat the next week. If I want a more deep clean on the walls/waterline I switch the S1 Pro to wall or waterline mode every two weeks or so to focus on that. Otherwise I keep both S1s on Eco mode and they work amazing with the Surfer. You don't need 2 cleaners like I do because you could just put it on the charger and drop it in the next day or so but because I have so many, that's what I do. Been really easy maintaining the pool, only need to touch the cleaner or skimmer to empty it or charge it. Love these combos!
How well do these cleaners work with pools with walls that are mostly curved? Let’s just say my pool was the shape of the number 8 it’s that curved. Would these cleaners still be worth picking up?
I received my Sonar 50 today and after using it for the first time, I noticed a drop of water under the front sensor glass when I took it out of the water. Is this area supposed to be water-sealed, or is my unit defective? I’m concerned that after a few uses, this area will fill with water. Thanks for your help.
Hmmm, I've never noticed water inside the sensor, so I can't say for sure, but almost all the parts inside most cleaners are built to be waterproof. Like some cleaners, you can take the debris basket out and run it wide open, and it'll work fine. It won't catch any debris without the basket of course, but the internals can get wet and be just fine.
It comes with a pool hook attachment that you connect to any standard pool pole. You use it like a hook to fish the cleaner out of the pool, aiming for the handle of the cleaner to hook onto the pole. The Sonar 50 is better at wall and waterline scrubbing than the Freedom. But the Freedom can be used in larger pools and picks up debris better on the floor as opposed to the Sonar 50. But it's not to say that either are bad at it, it's just that one is better than the other at it.
Hello David, how does this compare to the Seauto Crab? I thinking of returning the Crab for Niya or Poolmate Hydro 4. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations? I want to have a good warranty that a reputable Company can stand behind. Not hearing good things about Seauto customer service.
This Niya Sonar 50 is the same as the Seauto Seal of 2023, if you haven't already seen that, please check it out. One of the best value cleaners for that year so it makes sense that Dolphin took it and branded it as their Niya Sonar 50. Funny thing is, I have a Niya Sonar 30 on the way and that is the exact same cleaner as the Seauto Crab, at least on paper. I will be reviewing that one once I've tested it out. So basically you will be comparing the current Crab version to the last year Seal version(or the Sonar 50), and honestly, the last years model is better. Easier to connect debris basket and you have access to the Niya app and modes if you want to use it. The Crab, depending on which brand you get it from may or may not have the mode features. But yes, I totally understand switching to a Dolphin branded version, even when I try contacting Seauto I get no response or a response that makes no sense lol
Well Poolmate seems okay so far customer service wise. I did send them a few questions and inquiries about the Hydro 4 and it took a few days for them to respond, but they did respond. Like Aiper, Wybot, etc those companies take a few days to respond in general. The Hydro 4 has been doing well so far. I've been using it more as a cordless cleaner right now but know that when the season changes I have the option to switch to corded which is nice. I do think that if they somehow managed to keep the battery for the Cordless in the actual cleaner instead of having a tethered floating piece, it would have been much better. Would feel more like an actual Cordless. But probably technology wise, not quite there yet.
Well if you're looking for the more reputable brand than Dolphin Niya Sonar 50 all the way. It's similar to the Seauto Crab but slightly better and with the brand name behind it. The Hydro 4 is still too new to decide on whether or not it will last in the long run unfortunately
Hey David, check out the "Hydrus" model of this cleaner. It is on Woot right now for $214! I assume they are clearing them out to rebrand into the Dolphin but at $213 they are a steal. The "shark model is also available for $487. Based on all your videos I dont think the fine filter they include justifies that price increase, correct? Those filters constantly need to be replaced? thank you
Hydrus is Seautos other brand name so it makes sense. I've never used Woot but for that price, it's definitely a steal. The Shark model was great, bigger battery, stronger in general with the first ever horizontal waterline cleaning. The ultra-fine filter in the Shark is definitely different than others. It uses this foam that's attached to a separate liner inside of the debris basket that yes, eventually has to be replaced so it does cost more to use that foam. Some people were able to customize their own filter with just car wash sponges and made that work with it too
@@imdefinitelydavid Thank you, I just ordered the "Seal" version from Woot. Woot is an affiliate of Amazon where they typically sell overstock or returned merchandise. I was contemplating ordering the Shark version vs the Seal but wasnt sure its worth the price hike, especially if i can just modify my Seal's filter to be more ultra fine. Sorry for posting on several of your videos, I was just hoping to hear back from you before the sale was over. Thanks again
Oh no worries, I try to check my comments when I can but real life work keeps me away lol. Yeah I also thought about just putting a foam piece inside the Seal filter but it's different because it needs that extra frame piece to hold it in place inside the basket that the Shark has.
@@AliMaqCA Awesome! Ordered mine on Tuesday and it should be here in a day or 2. I am hoping they will lower the price on the shark version. $214 vs $486 is a big difference. If they mark it down further then I guess I'll have both.
As long as it's an online vendor that's authorized to sell Dolphin cleaners yes, they will honor their warranty. But things can get a little tricky. Like they won't honor the warranty if you buy it brand new from a random person on ebay but they will honor the warranty if you buy it from a pool supply store that's authorized to sell their cleaner who happens to sell it on ebay. If that makes sense.
Do you know what the GPM number for this cleaner? I couldn’t find anything online! Also what would you pick if you have an option between S1 pro , S1 and this cleaner ?
The Niya Sonar 50 is rated at 1080 GPH. It's listed as 18 gallons a minute so every hour it's 1080 gallons. For the best value, yes I'd pick this. But it depends on what other features you'd like. For instance, I prefer a weekly timer so if I could choose I would choose the S1 or S1 Pro because of that. The Sonar 50 doesn't have a weekly timer sadly. More even so, I'd choose the S1 Pro because it has an ultra-fine filter. But what's important for me might not be for your pool.
@@imdefinitelydavid Thank you for your quick reply. From my experience with the N1, for the past couple of weeks it doesn’t effectively pick up very small debris, which I believe is due to having only one scrubber wheel in front. I think the Niya will excel in this aspect. Having owned two Dolphin models in the past, I’ve found their motors to be less reliable since most models do not use brushless motors and often fail just after the warranty period. However, your review mentions that this model features a brushless motor, which is promising. Additionally, I found it interesting that the Niya manual states the product is built by Seauto and powered by Dolphin!
What do you think is better? The Aiper S1 Scuba, or this? Or really... whats the best robot under 600? I want cordless, waterline, and dual brushes on the front and back are nice. I've watched your videos and cant seem to make a decision, so I am assuming its either S1 or Niya. What do you think?
Do you have a pool with deeper ends or maybe more complex shapes? Aside from the Scuba S1 having a weekly timer and the Niya 50 not having one, the Niya moves much more aggressively to clean. So it seems to do better moving around on those types of pools. Otherwise the Scuba S1 works great as well.
@@imdefinitelydavid Yea, its got a deep end and a shallower end. Its a "free-form" pool. I dont need the weekly timer, I am more worried about the cleaning of the pool. Sounds like Niya is the way to go. Especially now that Maytronics is a part of Niya. Thanks!
I bot this poll robot, Dolphin Niya Sonar 50 after watching your video. Especially because of the 2 years warranty and I cannot find where to register this product for WARANTY. Can you direct with the right LINK
I wish I could find this for $400. Online I can only find it for $100-$200 more than that. On their website, they also offer a 30 version which is what I want, but cannot find any for sale. I really like the seauto Crab, but worried because they have a very bad rating on amazon. Any suggestions??
Oh wow, the price already jumped up $50 from when I bought it at release. This usually doesn't happen from Dolphin. It's almost always stable. The Niya Sonar 30 is exactly the seauto Crab but again, under the Dolphin brand. No news as to the release date of that one yet.
@@imdefinitelydavid I figured since the seauto seal is around $600 now, figured I would buy this one from maytronics because we all know their customer service is better and they usually stand behind their products.
I just finished watching a bunch of your reviews on many different robots and it helped me make the decision to purchase one of these last night. Do you know if the basket on the Shark is fits in the Seal or the new Sonar 50? Thanks for the informative and helpful reviews.
Yes, the Shark basket fits into the Seal! There is an extra frame piece that goes into the Shark basket to hold the foam filter in but the whole basket itself fits into the Seal. There's also a new Sonar 70 coming out soon from Dolphin, it's their version/copy of the Seauto Shark. So I expect that to be the same type of basket and filter too.
Mine has been going for a year now. I've heard of others having issues, and as long as you can get a hold of them(sometimes very hard to get a response), they honor the 2 year warranty.
Mine broke after 2 months, it took multiple phone calls, chats and emails to even get a response from Seauto. Then they said they would send replacement but never did, every time I follow up with them, they say it's coming, it's been about 5 months since they said it would be sent....nothing
They used to sell the original cleaner version of this, called the Seauto Seal(1st year version) for 300 bucks. But it's no longer for sale, at least at that price.
I'm almost certain it's because they will release the Sonar 70 with the extra filter option. So they want to sell you a more expensive cleaner for that option 😥
This is a more aggressive wall and waterline scrubber for sure than the Scuba S1. Not to say that the S1 doesn't do a good job at that but it's more of a more subtle feeling kind of cleaner as opposed to the Niya Sonar 50. Also, the Scuba S1 does have a weekly timer which the Sonar 50 does not. If that makes a difference. For me, I love weekly timers.
I got the scuba s1. The navigation is pretty terrible. It keeps cleaning the same path which makes worse than random. Interesting enough the floor mode fallows a path. How is the navigation on this one?
I prefer the older style Seal/Sonar 50 over the new style Seal/crab/cr6. The cr6 style model has a more annoying debris basket to lock into place compared to the Sonar 50 model. Like literally, I spend more time than I want to, trying to close and lock the lid.
I had the Seauto shark, it only lasted about 2 months...It was not a quality product. As the video mentioned, Seauto was not a good company to work with. Overall, they never ended up honoring the warranty, though they kept saying they would and delaying, it's been about 6 months. A lot of people had a similar experience with Seauto products, it's not surprising that they were discontinued. Why would you want to purchase this product? Even if Dolphin honors the warranty, you are going to be hassling with returning and waiting for repairs every few months due to the subpar manufacturing....
Thanks for this informative and insightful review. This explains why I haven’t seen hardly any Seauto Sharks available online.
This is a great review and tips video.

You should be able to do it on their main site with the serial number:
registration.maytronics.com/

So I expect that to be the same type of basket and filter too.
any idea when they'll be releasing the sonar 70?
No idea sorry, but it's listed online on their site. Sometimes though, even when listed, could take a few months.
I have read the Seautos had issues with no longer working after a couple weeks. How long has that one run for you?
Mine has been going for a year now. I've heard of others having issues, and as long as you can get a hold of them(sometimes very hard to get a response), they honor the 2 year warranty.
Mine broke after 2 months, it took multiple phone calls, chats and emails to even get a response from Seauto. Then they said they would send replacement but never did, every time I follow up with them, they say it's coming, it's been about 5 months since they said it would be sent....nothing
Where can I buy for a couple of hundred? I find it for $529!
They used to sell the original cleaner version of this, called the Seauto Seal(1st year version) for 300 bucks. But it's no longer for sale, at least at that price.
Why not a fine filter. So I still have to clean the dead algae etc.$
I'm almost certain it's because they will release the Sonar 70 with the extra filter option. So they want to sell you a more expensive cleaner for that option 😥
How this compares to aiper scuba s1?
Since these are based of the seauto seal. Would you recommend this or the Smonet CR6?
I had a shark lasted 2 months glad I bought the walmart warranty and the seauto company is shady.
