Great song. Elvin Bishop is the lead guitarist and band leader, the vocalist on this song is Mickey Thomas, who also sang with Jefferson Starship/Starship, and did at least one album of music as an individual performer.

Jus like the song Werewolves of London this was a "JOKE SONG" never meant to be released, Elvin was joking around at a party one night and sang the first half of this song just playing around, then when the Album label said he needed one more song to fill his album out Mickey, who had never sung lead, only back up, was like let me sing that song, so they gave him a shot, he said he made up the 2nd half of the song on the fly.

They got married & had a daughter. It didn't work out but he had the worst outcome. His daughter was 18yers old I believe & got involved in this weird culture. Sadly, she was murdered & her body was dismembered. Then, the people who killed her, shot & killed her mama while she was asleep. It happened in the 80's I think. It was just so sad. He wrote that song for his daughter"s mama. Just wanted to give you a little info about him, the song he wrote & the senseless tragedy that followed.😊

Awe! This brings back memories as this is me and my husband’s song! When he and I had just started dating in the early 90’s, we went with some friends to Panama City Beach and down the road from our rental was a bar on the beach called Sharky’s and the marquee said Micky Thomas was going to be there with his band, so on our last night we went with our group to check it out. Turns out it was his hometown and he was performing for friends and family and it was an absolutely awesome performance! This is one of the songs he sang and he just killed it and that’s how it became our song. ❤ Good times!

I can understand why you believe this has a doo-wop feel to it. But as a 14 year old teenager, I sang in a doo-wop group, performing 50's and early 60's songs. And trust me, its nothing like this.
The "yacht rock" label critics have given certain bands is meant to be a derogatory term, to put their particular music down. Personally, I hate it...

Saw the EB band back in the day. I was at Ft Jackson in Columbia, SC...which was at the time a great place to be if you liked live music. Also saw Elvin play as a part of the most amazing concert I have yet to see in my 68 years...as a guest with the Marshall Tucker band at their show commemorating their first national tour. MTB brought Charlie Daniels, Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts and Elvin to jam thru a "greatest hits" collection...then they brought out Lynyrd Skynyrd. After a 45 minute show, the entire grouping got together for a jam that lasted until the cops pulled the plug!
