A radio station in Atlanta (Z93) changed my life. I grew up listening to country...my parents choice...then my older cousins turned me onto rock!

Ha ha - I grew up in the DC suburbs in Maryland, mildly exposed to pop and rock as a young kid, then my brother -who is 5 years older than me - went away to school at the University of Dallas and on breaks introduced me to Willie Nelson - who is still my all time favorite! So sort of in reverse from you. I don’t think many other kids at my HS listened to country music on the radio!

Tasha made me so happy saying George Jones is her favorite. I've been on this journey with you guys for quite some time. And I love seeing those lightbulb moments when the meanings of some of these older songs click. As long as TNT puts out reactions, they have a viewer in this humble classical and country music fan.
@1:24, It's surface level. That is the perfect way to describe it. I have never thought of it like that. That music will get you dancing. It will get your feet and body moving. However, it doesn't touch you deep in your soul. THAT is why I love classic Country music. Even the new pop Country music is just surface level.

In back to the future, when Marty was playing that song, the band leader was on the phone and he said, " Hey Chuck, this is your cousin, Marion Berry. You know that new sound you were looking for?" Then he holds the phone out so he can hear it.

I have to admit I always like to see how people react to HE Stopped Loving Her Today. I grew up hearing the song in my childhood. My dad would just sing that line, and I always wondered why did he stop loving her. It was only a few years ago that I realized why. So I always watch the reactors face for the moment when it hits them. Tasha your reaction was precious and you are a beautiful human being with a beautiful heart. The two of you are such a beautiful example of marriage.
Marty McFly says to the audience, “someday you are going to like this.” because he was actually imitating Chuck Berry in the movie. He knew they would eventually hear Chuck Berry in the future.

I’m with you on Patsy Cline. Her performance of Crazy is other-worldly. There are very few songs that I won’t sing along to in the car, but this is such sublime perfection, I can’t mess it up. Judy Garland’s singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow in the Wizard of Oz is the other song on this level that I won’t corrupt by adding my own voice to it (and it’s not like I’m THAT bad a singer lol).
Angelina Jordan's version of "Crazy" is a true tribute to Patsy Cline. It also shows the perfection of Angelina's voice.

When a soldier makes home: Arlo Guthrie I heard it for the first time, in concert, after returning from Afghanistan. When in the song he spoke about the Russian War in Afghanistan I wept. It hit hard.
Soldier’s get strange: Jason Isbell. Listened to it the first time in afghanistan, and reflected on how my life would change.
Anything John Prine: I can’t adequately explain how this man’s music has impacted my life
What I got: sublime. I can remember where I was the first time I heard it, summer between 11th and 12th grade. The sounds griped me and the attitude carried me through high school and beyond.
Be careful of stones that you throw: Luke the Drifter/Hank Williams. I was in high school, late nineties. Why was I listening to this, lol. I related to the story. I realized that the lyrics in music could be a novel in three minutes. I realized that shared music could connect across generational, racial, political, and cultural divides as I listened to it with my grandmother. It’s the reason I listened to your reactions to various songs and this video. I know more about you having watched this video. Listen to a few of these songs I listed, and you’ll know more about me.
1 Flight Of The Bumblebee by Rimsky - Korsakov. Grade school music class our instructor played it. My first introduction to classical music and it amazed me
2) Black and White by Three Dog Night. The message was clear
3) The Grand Illusion by Styx The message about materialism really opened my young eyes
4) The Wall (full album) by Pink Floyd. If you know you know why. If not, listen to the full album in order... don't cherry pick single songs and try to understand them outside of the context of the album or you will miss out on it's depth
For Crying Out Loud by Meatloaf. Quite literally the single greatest love song ever produced by man in my opinion. Lyrics, instrumentation, vocals, everything.

Nights in white satin by The Moody Blues , Dust in the wind by Kansas , Anything Supertramp , Supertramp's music saved a 17 year old troubled kid who was on the verge of taking his life at one point ! Great list! Love every one of those.. Especially glad to see TSOL included on it, as it’s a bit rare for me to see them brought up as much as they really should. What a huge following they had, if even mostly of those in LA.

Y’all should listen to Ketty Lester sing Love Letters Straight From The Heart, an oldie but a goodie. Then, even though I usually don’t like covers, listen to John Lennon sing his song Mother, then listen to Barbra Streisand’s cover. They are so completely different. Nobody belts one out like Babs, and that big old church organ is incredible. Debbie Reynolds song Tammy, Doris Day songs Shanghai, and Secret Love. Oh, and Streisand’s song Prisoner, theme song from movie Eyes of Laura Mars, which y’all should both watch (-: Have a great Christmas!

What you guys need to remember is anything 97 and back were there real voices,in 98 they came out with Auto tune,the first song to ever use auto tune was Cher in her Song Believe,now everybody pretty much uses it,you can take a person that really can't sing that good and make them sound really good,but not before 98!!
They were using auto tune before 97. They just didn't tell anyone. Pop an Rnb stars were getting the auto tune treatment way before Cher.

I am part of the MTV generation.. so I liked almost everything played on MTV in the 80s.. later turned to listening to Grunge/alt rock and then later watching/listening to anything including classical. One of my favorite singers stopped singing in the late 1940s .
My theme song was Turn M Loose.

If you want to hear the story of my entire youth in about 4 minutes? Subdivisions by Rush says it all. They really nailed the experience of growing up just outside a city...Not that Lancaster Pennsylvania was much of a city...but to us it was 😁. It was safe. But the tradeoff for safety,was a pre decided future. There was no room to go against the grain. If you did,you got crushed like a bug by the powers that be...who thought they were doing the right thing. People who lived through that time and place,who went against the grain... although completely different people now,are still paying the price for it.

Songs that have really meant something to me:
1) "Crystal Ball" (Styx) ~ This song helps me get through some tough times.
2) "Fight The Good Fight" (Triumph) ~ Let's me know I'm doing the right thing.
3) "Wind Beneath My Wings" (Bette Midler) ~ My best friend who has long since been gone, asked me to sing this in one of those studios for amateurs. I can't listen to it without crying, and missing her.
4) "Wasted Time" (The Eagles) It made me understand that I'm not alone in having a lousy love life.
5) Waiting For A Star To Fall ~ Such an upbeat, sweet tune. Even if everything around me is falling apart, the song makes me feel better...
