I love it at 1:28 how Petrucci brings his arms down from his guitar, and very subtly, his expression reads; 'Yes, I know, I rule.' Except of course I know for a fact he's extremely modest. My no. 1 guitarist!
Definitely purchase the DVD because downloading it is not only disgracing DT (DT actually deserves their profits.) But the DVD quality is so immense. I'd get Score and then Budokan.
Ladies and gentleman! Mr. JOOORDAN RUDESS!!! I really love Petrucci's guitar playing and stuff. But this.. This is just.. one of the fkin best thing I've ever heard in my life. AMAZING .. Really I haven't got words for this. I like Jordan's section better, but you have to listen them as one.
Every show they play has a different set list, so they have a custom light program that follows the beat to play with them, and they can't suck, when you play with someone for 20+ years, you have a feel for them as musicians and can improve to extreme levels like this.
Yeah man. They're all fantastic works. Dream Theater has never done anything that I don't like. Budokan used to be my favorite. Score gradually worked its way to the top the more I heard that version of Six Degrees, Octavarium, and Metropolis pt. 1
Jacob Armen immediately comes to mind. I was just thinking about as Dream Theater being an "All-Star" band. ...'dunno...the more I think about it the more I totally hate myself for even thinking about Portnoy being replaced.
The Mirage kit MAY be a bit smaller, but i think Portnoy is about quality of sound and ease of setup/teardown for this new kit. Easy maintenance and all new transparent clear plastic drums perhaps make it easier to see Mike onstage, but no you still can't see him very well. Just a head, shades, and the occasional stick queues.
the descretion says that mike and john are doing a improvisation take easy boy please the show in budokai is like a best show that dt had to do, cause the best bands made one there and with it, do you think they will do a improvisation? it is amazing the best thing i have seen in my life but it isn't a improvisation
these guy are all about the music, unlike all others who are trying to push out music at 3minutes a song to get paid these guy are going 7 minutes + for all music.
Live Scenes from New York does have A Change of Seasons in the bonus features. The audio quality isn't the best though. Budokan and Score had the most money spent on film and audio quality. Even Chaos in Motion is a little raw at times. My favorite has to be Score simply because of the Octavarium Orchestra.
this is an improvisation it not seems to be impossible. He studied jazz and he know very well the fretboard, i know some people that can do that heheh he is human :p great solo
whether they do improvs or not is not a personal opinion. If you are a right or if you are wrong it's still a fact. It can't be your opinion that they don't improv and someone elses opinion that they do.........
well i mean with the amount of bass pedal usage and rapid hits that portnoy does, he probably gets a huge workout during those 3 hour sets eh, bad grammer, but im not gonna fix it
It's easy to say "OH , this famous guitarist is god !! "; " Oh, this musician is simply god " It's easy to heard someone saying that ... Who is god ? Petrucci? Buckethead? Jordan Rudess ? Pastorius? Terry Bozzio? Nobody is god. But everyone is the best in his categorie. If Petrucci is god, i'm a little god and it's easy to be god.
no. if they do improvisations then, it is a FACT that they do them if they don't it's a FACT they don't do them. If they DO do improvisations and you THINK that they don't, that is not an opinion that is misinformation.
Ok dude, chill out....hes not that fucking bad. If you really think so i think u need to get your ears checked. I do agree this concert at Budokan wasnt his finest our but just watch some songs from the "Score" DVD. He is in the zone there. Dream Theater wouldnt be Dream Theater without James.
Dream Theater is the main reason that I chose to pursue music, but I think that Mike Portnoy is way out of his league with these guys. I will say that strange time signatures come very easily to him, but other than that, there's just not enough talent to him. And yes I can say that because I play drums. I don't hate the guy. He just dosen't fit in a band like Dream Theater.
LMAO!!!Mike out of his league...that's the funniest shit i've ever heard tell me someone better who suits DT...no body lol...it's obvious you don't know what your talking about at all.
"Petrucci sounds like a machine playing guitars . Clinically precise but Totally boring. Older rock guitarists are so much bether" Oh okay, awesome point. So you'd mite as well just be saying "Petrucci is too good, he should really fuck up more often.
They just own the stage when they're up there - so much shimmering brilliance. It knocks me off my feet that they're that good.
These guys are simply unbelieveable. I find it amazing what Petrucci can do with a guitar. The dude is awesome !!! Actually...they all are.
Um...nothing more to say than that last minute made tears run down my face. I am absolutely speechless....
Dude, this is just great!
Am I glad I have the DVD, much better quality :D
In the earth, we have many guys pretty good
but this guys are unreal.
Amazing!!!
I love them
love the bass line in this
Petrucci and Myung, there are so greats...
simplemente... acojonante!!!
awesome
HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST Freaking SOLO IVE EVER HEARD i love it
I LOVE that bass tone =D
I love it at 1:28 how Petrucci brings his arms down from his guitar, and very subtly, his expression reads; 'Yes, I know, I rule.' Except of course I know for a fact he's extremely modest. My no. 1 guitarist!
*__* DAMN!!! i love it^^
thnaks.
me too!! send it!

Cool.
amen
you're probably the only entity who said that, congrats!!!
que wuea mas impresionante, simplemente la cagan estueones, increbles

...'dunno...the more I think about it the more I totally hate myself for even thinking about Portnoy being replaced.
yeah
ซู๊ดยอดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดดด!!!
i agree with u all the way
The Mirage kit MAY be a bit smaller, but i think Portnoy is about quality of sound and ease of setup/teardown for this new kit. Easy maintenance and all new transparent clear plastic drums perhaps make it easier to see Mike onstage, but no you still can't see him very well. Just a head, shades, and the occasional stick queues.
The ending is also the beginning of the duet from Portnoy and Rudess:P
haha at 2:56 john just chops his whammy bar^^
i love those guys. dream theater rocks
On such a busy tour they wouldn't have time to right something like this. It would have been totally off the cuff. Insane or what?
the bass riff is great
the descretion says that mike and john are doing a improvisation
take easy boy please
the show in budokai is like a best show that dt had to do, cause the best bands made one there
and with it, do you think they will do a improvisation?
it is amazing the best thing i have seen in my life
but it isn't a improvisation
4:15-4:40
is freaking awsome
Scroe!!!
i recommend getting Score the 20th anniversary concert first. especially if you have a good speaker system to show off the symphony orchestra (:
MYUNG WHERE IS UR SOLO?!?!?!?!
these guy are all about the music, unlike all others who are trying to push out music at 3minutes a song to get paid these guy are going 7 minutes + for all music.
mikes kit on train of thought tour is fucking huge? could it be bigger than the mirage monster? (2007 tour)
AMEN brother, celebrate the music or turn it off.
god, i wanna learn how to play this, but i have no clue if there is a tab for it. help :(
Live Scenes from New York does have A Change of Seasons in the bonus features. The audio quality isn't the best though. Budokan and Score had the most money spent on film and audio quality. this is not your ordinary, average band!!! wicked sick!!!
omg,light speed picking :O
he used the mixolydian again...
I think this mode is one of Petrucci's favourite....
omg i dare som1 to chart this on GH or frets on fire...lol and any1 how i can get this on mp3?
they got 5 stars!!!....
lol at malmsteen being expressive
i brought the cd 100 pesos... how much does it cost in dollars? is it a fair price?
yeh thats funny innit? just remembered he did it on the g3 dvd during one of the jam solos
tell me where.
I'll do.
this is an improvisation it not seems to be impossible.
He studied jazz and he know very well the fretboard, i know some people that can do that heheh he is human :p
great solo
actually its more of a Jordan Rudess, John Myung, Mike Portnoy, & John Petrucci quartet.
Buckethead is also amazing...
Apparently you haven't listened to even a small amount of DT's catalogue.
lol i love how like 6 ppl say score, then rockynets comes in and says live scenes from new york lol its his opinion, but its still kinda funny lol
240p...we meet again
mike looks like a aport playing rabbi
My god Petrucci is inhuman at guitar. That solo at the end is infucking credible.
Myung is Korean-American.
what guitar is that?
budokan is in Tokyo, Japan. NOT China
whether they do improvs or not is not a personal opinion. If you are a right or if you are wrong it's still a fact.
It can't be your opinion that they don't improv and someone elses opinion that they do.........
What exactly makes you certain that it isn't an improvisation?
4-5 billion notes per second
Anybody said something about portnoy's double-bass drum ability?? HA?????????In the end he gets that fast as hellhammer or barker...
well i mean with the amount of bass pedal usage and rapid hits that portnoy does, he probably gets a huge workout during those 3 hour sets
eh, bad grammer, but im not gonna fix it
do you all guys really think this is an improvisation !!!! it seems impossible to me :S
Portnoy is kind of the co-founder of dream theater...
yeah what the hells he on about haha
petrucci's god at improv
It's easy to say "OH , this famous guitarist is god !! "; " Oh, this musician is simply god " It's easy to heard someone saying that ... Who is god ? Petrucci? Buckethead? Jordan Rudess ? Pastorius? Terry Bozzio? Nobody is god. But everyone is the best in his categorie.
If Petrucci is god, i'm a little god and it's easy to be god.
You need to listen to more of his stuff instead of just assuming wildly.
I'd go with score if you want my opinion...
I don't think Porntoy is his real name lol, or maybe its his stage name with his other job!
Typo** Score!!! lol
haha
I did this on guitar pro 5.Anyone interested?
well hes american with korean parents...born in Chicago.
i bet the bass riff wasnt improv but the rest of it was
a petrucci le dio un golpe de corriente o ke??
It's called chromatic smarties.
Sounds like 7/8.
no. if they do improvisations then, it is a FACT that they do them
if they don't it's a FACT they don't do them.
If they DO do improvisations and you THINK that they don't, that is not an opinion that is misinformation.
tato_bridges@hot.. i trust you, ok? no spam or virus ;P
well petrucci is god so you can be a little bit of god aswell :)
peturcci should ATLEAST be second on there but whatever, when he burns you alive for no reason its not my problem petrucci is god.
Ok dude, chill out....hes not that fucking bad. If you really think so i think u need to get your ears checked. I do agree this concert at Budokan wasnt his finest our but just watch some songs from the "Score" DVD. He is in the zone there. Dream Theater wouldnt be Dream Theater without James.
man you dont get it. dream take there time in making great music everyone else is in a damn hurry to make music to promote themselves.
lol, assuming we are god's children, these guy's must be god's own brothers...
dude i cant believe you spelled dream theater wrong man ur one bad dream theater fan if u spell it wrong
I bet hes ( progjunky ) kidding. Or ill.
For the first time Petrucci managed to bore me, big time.
Dream Theater is the main reason that I chose to pursue music, but I think that Mike Portnoy is way out of his league with these guys. I will say that strange time signatures come very easily to him, but other than that, there's just not enough talent to him.
And yes I can say that because I play drums.

LMAO!!!Mike out of his league...that's the funniest shit i've ever heard tell me someone better who suits DT...no body lol...it's obvious you don't know what your talking about at all.
Wow and you can't even spell Dream Theater right, RyanTF2.
i rather disagree with you on that
the start sounds like a bad intro
"Petrucci sounds like a machine playing guitars . Clinically precise but Totally boring. Older rock guitarists are so much bether"
Oh okay, awesome point. So you'd mite as well just be saying "Petrucci is too good, he should really fuck up more often.
i just realised, dream theatre aren't all that bad when the singer isn't there... that guy is a total weak link
