Hi Laura! I bought the physical planner months ago and couldn't wait to start using it. After listening to a few of the videos as well as this one I decided to set mine up a little differently, which you say is OK ☺. So under my Focus Areas I have actually set them up as my de-clutter for the year and the ideas I have for those areas. I have set them as 1] Office/Craft Room 2] Living room/entry/dining 3] Kitchen, gaming area, coffee bar area 4] bedrooms & closets 5] bathrooms 6]loft, Harry Potter closet (it's under our stairs), laundry room and upstairs hall cabinet. I've jotted down ideas and goals in the Goal portion. In the monthly part of the calendar at the front of each month I meal plan for a week or two. Then in the daily calendar I put my projects for the day, appointments, phone calls, chores I want to accomplish, things I don't want to forget to do...basic planner stuff. Thanks so much for the greatest planner I've ever had! ❤

I did the same, got it earlier in 2022 and took the time to fill it out so I actually have a plan of goals .

    Hi Laura !
This is my first time using your new planner . I jump in so I can actually make plans and goals !
I purchased it on the launch in 2022 and stated thinking and planning right away to have it ready to go for 2023

The little "rant" at the 26 minute mark cracked me up ! Loved it! I'm guilty of carrying Everything over to the next day, week, month etc. Great video!

So fun to hear other people’s processes. I have done something similar without having a formal planner page to help me. I think it’s because I haven’t found a planner that has me ask myself the right questions. So… I noticed that some of my most important goals keep getting pushed to the side. The downside of starting with the blank slate is that it’s all too easy for me to downgrade my most important goals - and many have remained unmet for years. I’m talking about health stuff, things that really matter when it comes to your satisfaction with every other goal. Or anything else that is important.
So while I was listening to this I added some questions for my own review times, like:
“how can I change how I think about this habit that I need to make permanent, so that I absolutely love the hard work of it?“
“What pain am I suffering because I haven’t finished this project? How can I change my thinking and actions so I can enjoy the sweet success that awaits me?”
“Is it time to hire someone? Why do I think my identity requires me to be the one to accomplish this task?”
Basically, I’m coming up with reality check questions for myself. Like you said, we can’t control some things like getting sick (although if we take care of our health, we are much less likely to have those detours), and our feelings can cause us to set aside goals of high importance.
So maybe adding a section to the thought process to allow for the planner to come up with individualized questions it’s a good idea. I think I’m going to leave a blank space for that in my own decision making protocols. I don’t think the same questions are necessarily going to work for me forever.
Since you mentioned getting sick, it occurred to me that it would be fun to have a list of “while I’m sick“ I should be ready to enjoy a stack of videos on my wish list, simple and free things on UA-cam etc. that are just too numerous and/or too long for me to indulge in! It was just happenstance that I did that with great enjoyment when I had to stay off my knee for six weeks a couple of years ago.
Anyway, I love your thought process for Identifying what’s important to you and your unique tweaks on that.

Tracie, congratulations. Sometimes life and my disorganization is so great that getting out of bed is tough. On the weekends if it weren't for dogs needing to go out, I would just stay in bed.
Last year kidney stones kicked my butt. The prolonged pain of passing 7 stones ruined my goals and brought on depression. I know my main goal for today needs to be ordering my antidepressant.

Hi Tracie. There's a TEDx Talk from KC Davis, "How to do laundry when you're depressed" that I think you will appreciate. She also has a YT channel and her podcast is called Struggle Care. I just read her book, too, which is AWESOME, but start with the TED Talk.
I think when you're just struggling to get thru the day, you run into push-back from judgey friends or family--sometimes the voices in our own heads! that tell you to "suck it up" or "just do it." It's like telling a drowning person that all they need to do is to "just swim!" They don't get it and it's exhausting trying to explain it to them. Just know that you are not alone, and that you're in good company! And that there is hope. Seriously. If you got thru the day, then give yourself some credit. That was your One Thing for the day. I hope your days get better!

@@lurindasmith2781 Same with the dogs--and I have a cat who helpfully paws my forehead! I mentioned KC Davis, but the other person who has helped me get my house under control is Dana K. White here on YT. Her website & podcast are A Slob Comes Clean. She's part of the Take Your House Back team with Cas from Clutterbug, and Dawn from The Minimal Mom. It's the ONLY method that has worked for me, including having professional organizers. It synchs well with KC Davis, too. Good stuff!
As someone who has a chronic health condition, I can say that health issues are my body's way of saying, "Think you got plans? Ha!" So I have the One Thing I need to do for those kinds of days. If I took care of my pets and managed to get thru the day, that's good enough!

I feel you! I have lupus & RA. Then 2yrs ago my hubby of 25yrs at the time had a midlife crisis because his moma was supposedly cured of her cancer twice and was losing her battle. He was an only child and momas boy. He chose to shut me out while trying to convince me I was losing my mind and fussed at me about getting ready to go anywhere to the point I stopped going and became a hermit. It all happened so slowly that I didn’t realize it. He decided to seek comfort in my cousins 29yr old wife. Our oldest 2 adult daughters actually got pics for me for the lawyer. He actually didn’t want a divorce and had no idea the effect his actions would have on our family. I came from a divorced family & said that would never happen to my kids. But all of them know except my youngest son. His twin sister figured it out before even I did. We are still working on us. But it lead to my depression and anxiety. I still get extremely anxious if I have to get ready to go anywhere. He’s doing all the cooking now and all the things he should have been doing during those off years. He’s let me take my dear sweet time figuring it all out. And if he acts like a jerk I tell him and he stops apologizes and thinks about what he’s said or done. He says he never wants to be the man he was during that time. Then this past year his mom passed May31st. My last grandparent, my grandma passed at age 100 on June 25th. Then his uncle passed a month and a half before Christmas. To say the least this past year has been very hard. Basically the last 5 years have sucked! During this I found myself using my bed as my safe place. Now I’m having a hard time getting out of my bed because when I do I get extremely stressed out because our house is too small for us, crammed full, a disorganized mess, and so much needs to be done. Then I want to climb back in bed. I also have adhd and ocd which don’t help at all. To top it all off a week ago I found out one of my doctors has decided they want me to stop my pain meds after taking them for 13 years. Absolutely nothing surprises me anymore. I feel like if it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have no luck. I’m so ready for this black cloud to move on! But my goal this year is to become healthier and to get out of my bed! If I can manage this my ultimate goal is to workout and become a super fit tightened and tone woman. I do have goals and dreams. I’ve just got to start. I don’t have that best friend like a lot do that I have to always check on me. I’m the friend that is always there for others and they come to to talk to. But I don’t have anyone to talk to hence me being an open book and over sharing. I’ve actually bought 4 planners because I love making lists and filling them out. It’s actually doing the things where I fail. Right now I’ve got to decluttering my bedroom and get everything off of my desk just so I can sit at it to fill out my planners. If you’d like to connect and have someone to share with just respond and I’ll give you my email address to start. Hang in there! ❤❤❤❤
