I had that code, swapped the TCM and was fine for a few weeks and now only have a p0934 but no drive-ability issues.

That metal piece you found in the transmission pan looks like its coming from the lower drum in the transmission compounder assembly. When I first bought my Grand Caravan I brought it to the Chrysler Dealership for a transmission fluid change. Evidently they did not refill it to the proper level and it was low in transmission fluild for 50000 miles. My reverse went out. When my friend and I dropped the transmission pan there were all sorts of metal pieces which came from the transmission compounder. We replaced it and it worked. Its a lot of labor to replace since you have to take the valve body out, plus take out the caliper and brakes just to get to it, but we did it, and the part was $400 plus speciality tools being around $200

I’m currently having this problem for the second time. p01745. My RPM stays high and over heats if I drive over 35 mph. I bought a solenoid for 300$ and before I replaced it, I took it to a transmission shop and the person cleared the codes and it was driving fine for almost a year. I recently replaced the solenoid and no issues were resolved. The mechanic charged me 20$ to clear the code.

If the vehicle is worth it i would get a good low mileage used trans for it , one with under 100k at least, you would be surprised how cheap they are, thanks for watching

i have a 2009 chrysler town and country withe the 3.8 V-6 engine with the 62TE 6 speed transmission. it went into limp mode a month ago and will not shift into the higher gears. but when i pull over and stop and put it in park and drive it again it will shift just fine in all gears for around 1 mile to sometimes 3 or 4 miles then drops back into limp mode. i have since taken off the trans pan and changed the fluid and filter with no change. i have a code of PO76A SHIFT SOLENOID H MALFUNCTION. i have seen on many you tube videos that if you replace the solenoid pack that will fix this issue. WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

This is a generic code that can be generated by several issues, bad solenoid, slippage or even lack of pressure , unfortunately there isn’t a straight forward answer that would result in a quick fix, I would suggest taking to a technician in your area that’s known for being able to diagnose transmission issues, sorry I couldn’t give i just don’t want to suggest a part that doesn’t fix it then your back to square one only with less money in pocket now, I’m really into doing a proper diagnosis for my customers, keep me posted

I run a fleet of these vans andbi had 1 with the same issue you drive it for a few miles and it goes into limp mode but you restart the car and its fine agian.it ended being a computer these computers are very well known to go and the transmission control module is built into these computers

I'm wondering if the transmission being over filled was the initial cause of the code being set along with the limp home. Maybe causing the pressure to be to high. Thanks for a very informative video! Keep up the good work!

That code happened because no one ever checked the transmission fluid level and kept driving. After it went into lymph mode someone added fluid to try to fix it. Lot of mechanics try to tell people that they're trainees are shot. All they have to do is clear the ECU and change the fluid.

Hopefully that saved it, I abandoned the Chrysler vans while back, you must buy them with low miles and flush and fill the transmissions RELIGIOUSLY (max 30k) or you will be replacing them, I'm shocked it lasted 175k. I would sell it and slide over into a Sienna while it is working and call it a day.

I have a 2019 caravan gt I just bought. 240k miles. Previous owner changed transmission at a 180k miles. The transmission shifts perfectly but the dreaded whining sound at low speeds. No check engine light but scanned it and had the p0868 code. I changed filter, fluid, pressure sensor & the small Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid (All OEM). The whine sound reduced a bit the 1st day but was still there. Today i got the p1745 code. Transmission mechanic told me to change the torque converter and the shift solenoid. What do you think I should do? Any help is appreciated. This mechanic did not reset anything as well.

Step1 Find a scan tool that can reset the pressure learned values in the transmission, you can’t clear the code without resetting
Step to2 Drain transmission fluid & put back the proper fluid

Try the Cgsulit OBD2 Scanner, All System Code Reader for Dodge Chrysler Jeep Car SC530. Costs about $150 and does clear the VLP code. Not difficult to understand and use.

I am not mechanic but I can tell you it's car computer that does that? Sometimes like in my case transmission is rebuild by me, everything was ok the only thig i didn't do is scanned after rebuild I was thinking it works good so why poke the bear LOL. Well the computer let me drive for a while about 3000km and then went in limp mode with that code P1745? I know for a fact there is nothing wrong with transmission or fluid level but computer does it counter and when is over it's over? I am waiting for friend of mine co come from Ontario with his scanner to clear that code because he is mechanic and have good scanner (LAUNCH) I can wait few day's lol.

  • @dockeydidit

2011 intermittent and no codes. Dealer had for a week and couldn't cause it. They said it was one of the computers but didn't know which one without it happening while they had it. So I could buy 1 computer and see. I asked will they take it back if it's not that one but the other and they said NO you can just buy the other one. This started maybe a year or less after they repaired the transmission under warranty. Oh no, there is no possible way that could have anything to do with this issue. To resolve while driving I would pull the trans fuse and put back then all good. Never did get fixed but issue stopped for now. Bet I just jinxed myself ha

After a tranny goes into limp modes it will throw many codes and let you know all the parts that it shut down to protect the engine. These codes are not saying these parts are bad. People are understanding it this way. Must reset the EC uthen if a code pops up fix that problem. It's the problem that triggers the ECU to go into limp mode.

So in conclusion, transmission was overfilled and the pressure Line needed to be reset with the scanner. Too much fluid was showing too much pressure on the initial data.

@@christopherbehrens1373 A better solution is to unplug the battery, and keep the positive and negative cables touched together for a few minutes. It causes a dead short discharging the capacitors in the ecm/tcm, and basically erases any stored codes. I've done this many times when I didn't have my bidirectional scan tool.
